The product, in the report: Kenmore Toaster Oven/Broiler Model 238-48449 about 10 years old. Until now, it has performed as expected, with light usage – average of less than once a week.
I have owned a Kenmore Toaster Oven/Broiler Model 238-48449 for about 10 years. It has performed as expected, with light usage – average of less than once a week. Last evening I noticed an unusual smell coming from the kitchen, and found that the oven was running at full power. The entire outside of the unit was scorching hot – so much that a nearby plastic container was melting. The knobs to control the toaster were all on off at the time. I disconnected the cord from the wall socket. Nothing else in the kitchen was affected. My concern is that if this had happened when no one was in the house, it might have caused a fire. Thank you.

The product, in the report: Toaster Oven
This caller is reporting her Kenmore toaster oven that purchased from retailer in Pennsylvania during September 2012.
Monday, November 9th, 2015 she placed corn tortillas in the toaster oven but the timer apparently didn’t advance causing the tortillas to catch fire when the heating element didn’t shut off.
The caller had set the timer for five minutes just as she had done countless other times and thought they would, as usual, toast for five minutes then she would give them one or two minutes to cool. The timer did not shut off as it should have done and the tortillas had caught fire when they were kept toasting that extra minute or two minutes at the most.
The caller is reporting this incident as a severe fire hazard.
There are no injuries being reported.
The caller has not contacted the manufacturer but does intend to contact them.

The product, in the report: Toaster oven with glass door
My Kenmore toaster oven exploded this morning, about 2 hours after I used it to toast 2 slices of bread. I heard a loud noise and went to the kitchen, where I saw that the glass from the toaster over door had shattered and the shards were spread out all over my counter. We have had the toaster for about 3 years and haven’t had any problems until now. We did not hit or drop the toaster. It is located in a very stable counter in our kitchen.

The product, in the report: Kenmore four slice digital toaster oven. The model has changed a little since this one but I’ve attached a photo.
I have had the Kenmore 4 slice digital toaster oven for over a year and a half. On 8/14/14 30 minutes after using it I heard a noise from my kitchen and walked in to discover the glass door had shattered. The handle was on the counter and there was glass strewn 3-4 feet around the kitchen (it is small so couldn’t go any further). It was still making noise and crumbling slowly.

The product, in the report: Kenmore Toaster oven model #100.80009
I was using my Kenmore toaster oven (model100.80009) to heat some tater tots. They had been in the oven approximately 3 or 4 minutes and the glass door shattered and blew out. The handle flew off into the floor and glass was all over the counter, 3 feet into the floor as well as in the food tray. The oven is probably between 2 and 3 years old, but I do not feel that at any time should an oven door explode. I did email sears customer service and let them know there is a safety issue several days ago, but they have not responded. Fortunately we were not in front of it and no harm was done except the toaster oven self- destructed.

The product, in the report: Toaster oven, black sides, stainless steel top. Printing on the glass door is as follows: 12” pizza capacity - convection
I was warming [REDACTED]’s yellow corn tortilla chips in my toaster oven. I bake them for 10 minutes at 225 degrees Fahrenheit. I have done this dozens of times before. On 9/28/2013 the chips ignited. I suspect that the cause was that the appliance did not maintain the proper temperature, as 225 degrees is not enough to ignite tortilla chips.

The product, in the report: Kenmore toaster oven model 100.8000990A.
The glass door in my Kenmore Toaster oven, model 100.8000990A exploded. I had used it about an hour before this happened and it was cool. I was in the next room and heard a crash and found the glass shattered all over the countertop. Looking on line I have discovered that this is not uncommon and many people have reported it, but there does not seem to have been a recall.

No one hurt Made May 9, 2013, sent to the company May 16, 2013, published by CPSC May 31, 2013
The product, in the report: Kenmore Digital 4-slice Toaster Oven with Pizza Stone Model No 100.80009
Kenmore Digital 4-slice Toaster Oven Model No. 100.80009 I owned this appliance for about three years, using it only 3-4 timer per week, still in like new condition. The glass door at the front of the toaster oven suddenly without warning, “exploded” with a loud crash, sending many small glass particles as far as three feet on the kitchen counter and all over the floor. Even the handle “flew” two feet away from the appliance. Luckily nobody was near the toaster oven at the time. When the glass shattered, the appliance was plugged in, but not in use. Even though my appliance was beyond the two year warranty, I tried contacting Sears (online, per telephone, at the store), but only got “the runaround”. I feel that this is a safety issue, which has nothing to do with normal usage. My previous toaster oven lasted close to 20 years, until the heating elements finally gave out. I certainly would never expect the glass door to shatter. This toaster oven is still being sold online and in stores as item no. 0081937000, model 19370. Upon reading online reviews posted by other consumers, I learned that this is not an isolated occurrance. Several people posted that their glass doors exploded/shattered as well. Some owned their appliance only a few months when it happened. I believe that this is a dangerous product and should be taken off the market and recalled. I would appreciate any feedback. Thank you, [REDACTED]

Glass door of Kenmore toaster oven exploded outward, spraying shards of glass across kitchen. The toaster oven hadn’t been used since the morning, and then roughly 8 hrs later it exploded. Around 5 mins prior to the explosion I had placed a loaf of bread on top of the toaster oven, due to lack of space on the counter. No one was injured from the incident.
The temperature in the Kitchen was around 70 degrees. The toaster was at room temperature. The loaf of bread had been removed from the freezer and placed on the toaster oven to thaw at room temperature.

The product, in the report: Toaster Oven
I own a Kenmore Toaster Oven 100.8000990A. I have had the unit for approximately a year and I have used it regularly for toasting and baking which it is specified for. I used the broiler function for the first time today (11-12-11) and, about an hour later, the glass door exploded. Glass shards were sent flying half way across the kitchen. The unit was completely cool to the touch and nothing had fallen on it to cause the glass to break. I began researching this product on line and found that several other people have had similar trouble with this toaster oven model. I even noticed that mine is not the first report submitted to this web site. I am thankful that no one in my household was standing close to the unit when it exploded; however, I feel that this item should be recalled because of the potential danger it presents.

The consumer stated that she had used the toaster oven at 9:00 am earlier the morning on 8/15/2011 and she was down she had unplugged it from the wall outlet and powered it in the off position.
At or around 1:00 pm she heard a loud crash noise and when she went into the kitchen she noticed that the glass from the oven door had shattered and the glass was all over the counter top, floor and some inside of the oven.
She touched the oven to see if it was hot and it was not she also double check to make sure that the oven was powered in the off position and unplugged from the wall outlet and it was.
She found the handle to the oven door 12 inch away from the toaster oven on the counter top. She noticed that the pieces of glass varied in different sizes.
She contacted the firm but they only handled large appliances and since then she has not made any further attempts to contact the firm . She has packaged the toaster oven back into the same packaging it came in and plans to return it to the retailer on 8/24/2011.

The product, in the report: Kenmore toaster oven. Model # 100-8000-990A
We had a Kenmore brand toaster oven. Model #100-8000-990A that after being used had cooled down for >1 hour, than suddenly the glass oven door exploded for no reason. Glass broke all over the countertop and onto the floor. The toaster oven was OFF and cool to the touch. After reading reviews online, I noticed dozens of folks that had the same issue. This product is dangerous!!!

The product, in the report: Toaster Oven w/9” Pizza Stone
Caller was sitting in front of his television watching the news at 11:00PM on May 16th, 2011 when he heard a crackeling sound. No one had used the toaster oven for over six hours and not one had ever used the 9” pizza stone., However when caller walked into the kitchen he saw that the glass from the door of the toaster oven which has a 9” pizza stone had exploded outward with the farthest piece of glass was maybe five feet from counter where toaster oven was sitting and the nearest piece of the toaster oven put a dent/chip in the granite counter top. Caller would like this investigated as a safety hazard. While thankful that no one was near it when it exploded he does realize the danger with the scattering of glass if anyone had been near it.
