No one hurt Made Jun 10, 2026, sent to the company Jun 24, 2026, published by CPSC Jul 10, 2026
The product, in the report: Hamilton Beach Easy View XL Sure-Crisp Air Fryer Toaster Oven. Model No. 31460. Series No. B2652LC. Silver with a black front. Handle on the top right side. Large enough to cook a 12 inch pizza.
Hamilton Beach Easy View XL Sure-Crisp Air Fryer Toaster Oven Model 31460. Purchased at Walmart September 2025. This product was used by adults in a typical household kitchen setting to cook toast, frozen pizzas, other items with relatively short cooking times. It had plenty of ventilation. It always had to be set at 450 because it didn’t heat and cook consistently at lower temperatures. We recently began using it to cook items that take 30-60 minutes, such as soda bread rolls, in addition to the usual items, again at 450. While previously it consistently under-heated and took longer to cook than it should, starting in May/June 2026, it began emitting a burning smell. The item didn’t burn or cook faster, but there was a burning smell. I assumed something in the crumb tray had burned. That wasn’t it. We assumed it was a one-off situation. On June 7, 2026, we put in an item that should cook for 15 minutes. Within 10 minutes, there was a lot of smoke in the house. We shut it off, and the burning smell was coming from the heating elements. The food was burnt to a crisp and the pan was also burnt. The smoke detector, not located near the kitchen, went off a minute later. We were lucky nothing caught on fire and no one was injured. It took a while for the smoke to clear, even with a fan. We let it cool, tested it again and even at low temps, the upper heating element turned bright bright orange, brighter orange than it had ever been before that day. We immediately unplugged it and haven’t used it since and won’t use it again.

No one hurt Made Nov 25, 2024, sent to the company Nov 29, 2024, published by CPSC Dec 13, 2024
The product, in the report: Easy Reach 1400 W 6 Slice Convection Toaster Oven
Saturday night I was warming three taco shells in my 4 month-old Hamilton Beach Easy Reach 1400 W 6 Slice Toaster Oven, prewarmed to Bake @ 350. I sat down on the kitchen chair to read the paper, heard a funny noise a minute later, and turned to find flames over a foot high coming from the oven, and the taco shells black. I grabbed the mitt, grabbed the tray, and tossed it in the sink. If I’d, say, gone to the bathroom for 3 minutes, the fire alarm and sprinkler system would have been triggered, and the rare books in the contiguous living room destroyed. My research since then suggests this is especially a problem with taco shells, but I’ve been doing this the same way for 50 years. Hamilton Beach has not responded, and the paperwork suggests I have to pay for the shipping AND they will send me another toaster oven of the same model. Meanwhile, Home Depot today did not care - their 90-day warrantee has expired. THAT IS RIDICULOUS. I have contacted everyone in my addressbook - all are horrified - but this needs to be fixed. Any large toaster oven should be able to cope with some shell slices. Can you help? I sure hope so!!

No one hurt Made Jun 10, 2024, sent to the company Jun 14, 2024, published by CPSC Jul 1, 2024
The product, in the report: Hamilton Beach 2-in-1 Toaster Over Model 31156 Series D1732CE 1450 Watts
In December 2023, I purchased the Model 31156 Toaster Oven from Hamilton Beach. I have used the toaster oven several times with no incident; however, a guest in my home inadvertently turned the Timer Dial to “Stay On” while the Oven Dial was on Broil. The Toaster Oven never shut off! It went for hours on Broil with the unit continuing to heat and the plastic emitting a noxious smell. The noxious odor woke me up in my sleep and I had to hunt down what the cause was. There is no Off switch on the oven , so I had to slide the lever from Oven to Toast in order to stop the process. With no timer on the Broil function, this oven could have continued heat on Broil without stopping on its own, and would have ultimately caused a fire. The plastic was close to igniting, and wall behind was extremely hot even though the unit was 6 inches away. I have not used the oven since. Today, I attempted to contact Hamilton Beach and report the issue. I called during business hours. The 1-800 number voicemail directed me to look at the website and send an email to the address on the website. There is no email on the website for consumers. There is only an email for the commercial customer.

Seen by a doctor or nurse Made Apr 14, 2024, sent to the company Apr 16, 2024, published by CPSC Apr 30, 2024
The product, in the report: The unit is marketed as an Air Fry Countertop Oven MODEL: 31225
The toaster oven/convention oven I have has razor sharp edge on the interior of the unit. The edge I am referring to uneven which is to say it does not sit flush with surrounding fabricated pieces. The safety lip which would have prevented injury is not properly positioned over the hazard and is instead behind, exposing the sharp edge. The replacement I was issued exhibits the exact same hazard.
During a thorough cleaning of the unit, my finger tip was severely sliced open, almost severed.

The product, in the report: Hamilton Beach toaster oven. Purchased from Target, Their model or product number is 072096595 $89.95. I did return it for full refund and have pictures showing glass all over and the front of the toaster. I don’t have the below information because I returned it to Target in the original box. I have pictures showing shattered door and glass all over but can’t upload them.
I purchased a Hamilton Beach toaster/oven on January 6, 2023. Had just toasted a bagel, closed the door and was putting spread on my bagel. The glass door on the toaster exploded glass all over the counter, floor and my breakfast sending shards and “needles” of glass everywhere. There was no water nor anything else of that nature close to it nor was it touching the counter.

The product, in the report: Hamilton Beach 2-in-1 Countertop Oven and Long Slot Toaster Model: 31156 The Current item (with the failed toast timer) is series # B4702CE. The original item (with the failed, separate oven time), was series # A3091CE [REDACTED]
Hamilton beach combination toaster oven/toaster little over a year old, its built in timer failed such that the food being toasted never popped up and the heat never went off. VERY nearly started a fire, you can see that the waffle is literally smoking. This was the replacement unit I got under warranty. I had a very similar experience with this same model that I thought was a fluke... my original one, the separate oven timer dial stopped “timing” less than a year after purchase and similar to this second unit (but with the oven function vs the separate toast function/timer since this is a 2-in-1 unit), the oven heat just stayed on forever vs turning off after the set period of time

The product, in the report: Hamilton Beach 6-Slice Countertop Toaster Oven 31127D
I was drying some almonds at 180 degrees in my Hamilton Beach 6-Slice Countertop Toaster Oven, model 31127D, over night. After about 5 hours, the smoke detector went off. The nuts were glowing and starting to catch fire. I dry nuts often, usually for about 14 hours. They only get warm at this temperature. After everything was cooled down, I checked the settings. The thermostat was at 180 degrees. I then put an oven thermometer inside and turned it back on. The temperature went to 450 degrees and was still climbing when I turned it off. The thermostat is defective and does not turn of the heating elements. Without a smoke detector, I would have has a significant fire.

There’s no need to spend extra time cooking separate meals for the pickier ones, either. The wide interior and adjustable cooking racks provide double the space for cooking multiple foods at once. What’s more, this oven is ideal for anyone, anywhere and anytime. It can replace the microwave in your office, offer easy cooking access for the elderly, serve as a staple for apartment dwellers or provide snack enthusiasts with a little added treat. No sweat – the Hamilton Beach Countertop Oven provides extra capacity for second oven convenience as well as four ways to cook: BAKE, CONVECTION, BROIL and ROTISSERIE. A 9”x13” baking pan can be found in most kitchens in North America, used for making everything from lasagna to brownies. Not only does this oven fit two 9”x13” pans at once, unlike conventional ovens without convection technology, the Countertop Oven with Convection and Rotisserie comes fully equipped. Instead of having heat come from just one central area and no fan to “stir-up” or circulate air evenly all over, this oven’s convection technology utilizes a top and bottom heating element and a built-in fan to distribute heat evenly for a uniform temperature. That way, bakers can choose between traditional baking – ideal for cupcakes, cakes and soft baked goods – or convection baking – ideal for a crispy pizzas, cookies or even taquitos. Use the rotisserie feature for roasted chicken, beef roast or pork roast. Note: Only upper heating elements will be on during the rotisserie mode. TIPS & CARE Before cooking with the oven, always PREHEAT for approximately 5 minutes. Check pan manufacturer’s directions for oven-safe rating. Do not cover the crumb/drip tray or any part of the oven in aluminum foil (causes overheating); however, use of aluminum foil to partially cover casseroles or some foods is acceptable. Visit foodsafety. gov for more safe cooking temperature information. The full-width crumb/drip tray slides out from the front, allowing easy washing. For the best oven performance, cleaning should be done regularly. Unplug first and allow oven to cool before interior and exterior cleaning. For interior cleaning: wipe oven walls, bottom tray and glass door with a damp, soapy cloth, but do not scratch or damage heating element tube. Repeat with a damp, clean cloth. All removable parts should be hand washed in warm, soapy water as well. For stubborn interior stains, use a plastic scouring pad. For exterior cleaning: wipe oven walls with a damp cloth, but do not use abrasive cleansers or metal scouring pads; this can scrape/scratch the surface. My Hamilton Beach Toaster/Convection oven Model 31103A turned itself on, in broil mode, after timer elapsed. There is a warning in the manual to not leave the product on in broil mode unattended. Additionally, the “always on” mode is essentially -1 on the timer dial, so intuitively turning the oven off by “turning counter-clockwise all the way” does not have the effect of “turning off”, it has the effect of “never turning off”. At least three time’s I’ve accidentally turned the oven to “always on” mode despite intending to turn it off. The audible feedback of “off” is a bell, which sounds when the device transitions from “time remaining”, through “off”, into “always on” mode. Seems at least this latter design defect has been remedied by adding special grip buttons in a newer model, however the safety concern is still present on all previous not-yet-recalled models. I contacted their customer service department and they said the unit was outside warranty and offered a discount code to buy a new item.

Hamilton Beach Toaster Oven : Model #31333 Series #A4171CE
Toaster unit is a imminent and dangerous home fire hazard. Then exterior of unit gets extremely hot and will combust or burn anything or person just by incidental contact. Product on hand is less than 1 yr old & recently not only did the unit itself get dangerously hot on the outside because it lacks adequate insulation, but the cheaply made electrical plug itself was too hot to pull out of socket.
As a formal buyer for companies and the federal government, consumer has professional experience rating purchase buys, and this one is a serious home fire hazard.

I have 2 month old Hamilton Beach toaster oven Model # 31411, series# A4081DL. The toaster oven has not been used that often. This morning I was using it for about 3 min on 350 degrees to heat up some organic waffles. After it ended I grabbed the waffles, closed the glass door and grabbed a plate. I then started to walk out of the kitchen when the glass on the toaster oven door exploded and sent glass shooting out all over the kitchen. My 1 year old was home at the time but thankfully in the other room.

The product, in the report: Hamilton Beach Kitchen Countertop Oven Broiler Convection & Rotisserie model 31100. Dimensions: 16.54 x 20.62 x 13.11 inches Weight: 26.7 pounds
Brand Hamilton Beach Brands, Inc. Product: Countertop Oven with Convection and Rotisserie (31100) Model: 31100 Series: A4431ce When turning on the toaster oven to a set time the timer will go to the off position and no longer ring when done and will continue on to the stay on position. After putting the timer knob back to the off position and walking away the timer again went back on to the stay on position the only way to shut it off is to unplug it from the outlet. I reported the incident to Hamilton Beach Brands, Inc. they stated that it is no longer under warranty. Please note I was not looking for a replacement I was reporting to the a dangerous appliance. After further investigation of my own I took the timer out of the toaster oven and examined it. It appears that the plastic piece that pushes down on the electric contact melted to it making it so it will not longer reset the timer properly therefor it will continue to run to the stay one position. I never used this toaster over beyond the limit of the timer on most occasions it was only used for 20 minutes. In my opinion I was lucky I didn’t leave home that day it may have started a fire.

Purchased Hamilton Beach toaster oven model #31408 on 5/1/2015. On 1/5/2016 it exploded while toasting a bagel.Countless shards of glass flew over an approximately 4-foot area, and the oven door blew out. Fortunately I had moved several feet away as I might have been seriously injured. Hamilton Beach would do nothing for me unless I returned the item to them, even though I still had the sales slip and the item was under warranty. I felt it was too dangerous to attempt return.

The product, in the report: Hamilton Beach Convection toaster/oven Model 31333, Serial A3031CE
Regarding Hamilton Beach Convection Toaster Oven, Model # 31333, Serial # A3031CE:
The “Toast/Timer” dial no longer shuts the appliance off. The dial continues past the “Off” position to the “Stay On” position. This means that the food in the toaster/oven is cooked longer than it should be, hence a potential fire hazard, and the only way to turn off the appliance is to unplug it which causes a spark from the outlet.
When reported to Hamilton Beach, there was no indication of any concern about the safety aspect of this product.

The product, in the report: Toaster Oven
I was using the toaster oven to reheat pizza. I set the timer dial to 10 minutes and after that time heard the bell go off signaling it was done. I was working on something else in the kitchen so I didn’t get the pizza out right away. A few minutes later I smelled something burning & went to the toaster oven...The timer dial had gone past the ‘off’ point and continued all the way to the ‘Stay On’ position. Moving the dial back to the ‘off’ didn’t turn the device off, the timer again travelled to the ‘Stay On’ position. Not having any other means to turn the device off, I unplugged it.
This is a faulty design that could have caused a fire. This spring-loaded timer dial works by turning it clockwise from ‘Off’ to set a specific time and turning it counter-clockwise from ‘Off’ to have the oven be constantly on. Unfortunately, a faulty ‘stop’ at the Off position causes the unit to go to the ‘stay on’ position indefinitely. The failsafe ‘stop’ position on an oven like this should be OFF, not ON!

My daughter ([REDACTED]) bought me a Hamilton Beach toaster oven for Christmas, 2013. I read the directions and used it as a toaster for morning toast, (1 piece) following directions. On about July 22nd, I awoke and fed the cats, made coffee & put a piece of [REDACTED] bread into the toaster oven, plugged it in and turned it on, as usual. I went out to get the paper, came in about 5 min. later and found that the toaster oven had exploded. You can see the handle flew off, the glass shattered, and the door blew (black pieces in the picture). No injuries. Thank God, I was outside and not checking the toast. The glass could have hit my eyes! Some glass was on the floor.

The unit has two functions: toaster over and toaster. To operate the toaster or oven, you have to slide the level to the appropriate setting. While the oven level with the dial on the “off” setting, the oven light comes on. The “oven” portion was used this morning, and the dial turned to the “off” position after use. Timer failed, such that timer continues past the “Off” position and continues until it stops at the “Stay On” position. Oven then continues to operate indefinitely. On testing for the problem, the timer consistently failed to stop at “Off”, failed to sound the bell, and continued to “Stay On”. This failure is not obvious to the operator until the contents of the oven begin to burn. This is a serious fire hazard as well as a burn hazard for anyone who, unaware the oven is still operating, touches the outside of the appliance. Once the failure occurs, the oven cannot be turned off, except by unplugging the power cord.

When the timer dial is turned to the right in order to toast food, it periodically does not turn off. This typically happens if you are trying to lightly toast an item and you turn it to the lighter toasting option. Sometimes it begins normally and I can hear the slight clicking noise that indicates that the timer is working, but then the clicking seems to stop and the toaster heating process never turns off. Other times, if you only turn it to medium (lighter) toasting, the heating element turns on and begins to toast but the timer never activates, so it never automatically turns off.

The product, in the report: Hamilton Beach toaster oven
The consumer stated that she set the oven for light toast. She placed one slice of bread in the oven. About two minutes later she discovered flames inside of the oven and also flames were coming out of the vent. She unplugged the oven and held the door closed so that the lack of oxygen supply would allow the fire to go out. After about a minute the flames went out.
The inside of the oven was blackened and the kitchen was filled with smoke. There was no other damage.
The consumer stated that she called the manufacturer on 9/4/2012.

The product, in the report: Toaster Oven - type 047
Heating elements switched to highest heat automatically; Food caught fire
Cause: spring driven timer recoils past the off position when time runs out and moves to the broil position which allowed both top and bottom heating elements to burn indefinitely at highest setting.
Oven in service for one month.

The product, in the report: TABLE TOP CONVECTION OVEN
HAMILTON BEACH TABLE TOPP OVEN, TYPE 027, MODEL NO. 31197R, SERIES A2890BW. WHEN IN USE, THE HARD WIRED ELECTRIC CORD GETS SO HOT YOU CANNOT TOUCH IT. YOU HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL THE OVEN IS TURNED OFF AND COOLS DOWN. I CALLED HAMILTON BEACH CUSTOMER SERVICE (1-800-851-8900) AND WAS TOLD THERE IS NO RECALL ON THIS UNIT BECAUSE OF A FAULTY CORD, BUT THE CUSTOMER SERVICE REP WAS KIND ENOUGH TO OFFER TO SEND ME A MAILING LABEL TO RETURN THE OVEN AND THAT THEY WOULD EVALUATE IT AND SEND ME A NEW UNIT. I EXPLAINED THAT IT WASN’T THE OVEN THAT WAS FAULTY, ONLY THE ELECTRIC CORD. AND THAT MOST LIKELY THE CORD HAD ONLY THE MINIMUM SIZE WIRE AND THAT’S WHY IT GETS SO HOT. IT CANNOT HANDLE THE 1500 WATTS. THE CUSTOMER SERVICE REP SAID THEY JUST DON’T CHANGE THE CORD. I INDICATED THAT IF THEY JUST SEND ME ANOTHER TABLE TOP OVEN, IT WOULD HAVE THE SAME TYPE ELECTRIC CORD, CORRECT? THE REP SAID, “YES”.
AGAIN, THE PRODUCT IS GOOD, BUT THE ELECTRIC CORD IS BAD. SO BAD THAT IF LEFT PLUGGED INTO THE ELECTRIC OUTLET, IT COULD VERY WELL CAUSE A FIRE. HAMILTON BEACH’S ANSWER TO SIMPLY EXCHANGE THE OVEN, WHICH HAS THE SAME TYPE ELECTRIC CORD, IS NOT PRODUCT SAFETY OR THE ANSWER TO THIS DANGEROUS PROBLEM.
