The product, in the report: DeLonghi Toaster Oven, model EO-1270
I purchased as new a DeLonghi EO-1270 toaster oven in November 2015. January 2017, after running a toasting cycle, the unit turned off as expected. However, a few minutes later the unit turned back on by itself, and became extremely hot. As the unit had turned off, it was unattended, and its “On” state was not detected until a burning smell was detected in our home. Had we left the home, we would likely have returned to a fire. On inspection, the timer had rotated to the “Off” position, as expected, but over several minutes, continued to rotate to the “On” position. This behavior is repeatable. This failure mode has been noted by other consumers in the Reviews section of Amazon.com. THIS PRODUCT SHOULD BE RECALLED.

The product, in the report: Toaster Oven
Caller stated that the timing switch on the toaster oven malfunctioned. The automatic timer went off after using it to grill a sandwich for 1 1/2 mins, however, the toaster stayed on all night which caused the wood it was placed on to be charred. He woke up the next morning and his spouse noticed a burning odor emitting from the unit. She immediately unplugged it to prevent further damages. There was minimal property damage.
The manufacturer was not contacted as yet. Caller feels that the toaster oven is a fire hazard and should be reported.

The product, in the report: 1400 Watt 120 Volt counter-top toaster oven
Product:
Delonghi Model EO1260 1400 Watt electric toaster oven All manually operated control functions. Spring-wound timer with bell to indicate end of cycle. No digital timer components.
Purchased new one year ago.
Oven stays on when timer ends. Power switch intermittently fails to shut off when timer completes cycle, even if timer bell signals. The bake/toast power switch is prone to being accidentally left on by the user, unless great care is made to center the knob at the “off” position. Oven bake / toast control is prone to remain “on” even though user believes it has been turned off. Poor / cheap construction of timer and setting controls make this appliance a real safety / fire hazard.

The toaster timer on switch has off in the middle. Turn it one way for the toaster timer, turn it the other way to the on position. Last night while standing in the kitchen, the timer started up (it’s a loud ticking) and the switch went on past the off position to the permanent on position.
Essentially the oven turned itself on. I am just glad we were home and by it when it happened.
I have sent an email on to Delonghi USA support support@delonghiusa.us however I wanted to report this here because I believe it is a defect in design and is hazardous to anyone else using it.

Toaster oven switch failed. Now when toaster timer completes, timer does not stop, but goes past stop position to on position. Toaster cannot be shut off and must be unplugged.
If this was to fail when no one was watching, it would result in the unit spontaneously turning itself on.

No one hurt Made Aug 13, 2012, sent to the company Aug 21, 2012, published by CPSC Sep 5, 2012
The product, in the report: Toaster Oven
My toaster oven switches itself on. The only way to keep the toaster oven from heating is to keep it unplugged. The toaster oven has 3 dials, one of which controls power state. From the “off” setting, you can turn the dial to the “on” setting on the right if you want the oven to stay on, or you can turn the dial to a “Dark...Medium...Light” “toast” setting on the left. The “toast” setting is controlled by a mechanical count-down timer that rotates the dial back to the “off” position. Now instead of stopping at “off”, the dial continues to rotate to “on”, where it stops. The same thing happens if you manually set the dial to “off”.

The product, in the report: Countertop Toaster Oven
My De’Longhi oven turns itself back on. I turned it off and left the room. I then thought I smelled something burning but I knew I had turned of the toaster over so I ignored it. I went into another room and saw that the toaster oven was in fact on. I turned it off, chastising myself. Again, I smelled something, went into the kitchen and turned it off thoroughly confused. Repeated and then when I found it on a third time I turned it off and stood in front of the unit. To my surprise it started clicking the opposite direction and turned itself back on! I unplugged it. I tried it again the next day and unfortunately it was still doing it. I contacted the manufacturer (reference #4536568). but they seem unfazed due to the age of the unit (9 years old). I explained that I was not reporting a broken spring or handle but a serious defect that was a fire hazard. Their reply was to remind me that it was 9 years old.
A little Googling later, I find that this is apparently not an isolated or new issue:

The product, in the report: DeLonghi toaster-oven Mod EO 1260
DeLonghi toaster-oven Mod EO 1260 Fire Hazard because Timer is faulty. Seconds after timer shuts off it restarts by itself, causing upper and lower heat elements to go to Max heat indefinitely. Scorched contents, much smoke, near fire. Google search finds this exact problem is common w/ several models of DeLonghi toaster-ovens. On 13 Dec 2011 I reported hazard to DeLonghi (their Ref # [REDACTED]). DeLongi said they would send fax to authorize repair, but repair shop never received such. This tactic has been reported by others on web.

The product, in the report: Convection Toaster oven
We just purchased the DeLonghi Convection Toaster Oven, Model EO-2058.
When we first plugged the oven in and turned it on, smoke started to come out the vents on the right side, behind the control panel. The smoke got more intense, so I shut the unit down and unplugged it.
Clearly something is wrong.
I’ve e-mailed the customer service department at DeLonghi asking to return the oven for a refund. I did not want a replacement since apparently this is not an unusual incident. I searched the SafeProducts.gov website and found a number of similar complaints about the oven.

The product, in the report: DeLonghi RO2058 Convection/Toaster Oven With Rotisserie
I bought this toaster oven on 6/23/2011. On 7/5/2011 I used the oven to toast 2 waffles. After they finished I removed the waffles. About 60 seconds later the entire glass door in the front of the toaster exploded. Glass was sprayed over the entire kitchen. Luckily no one was hurt but if someone was standing in front of the toaster they would have been sprayed in the face with hot broken glass.
This was a DeLonghi RO2058 Convection/Toaster Oven With Rotisserie.

The product, in the report: DeLonghi Countertop Oven / Toaster Oven.
Purchased DeLonghi EO2058 Electric Counter Oven. The rotating timer switch is either defective or improperly designed. When timer is manually rotated to the OFF position, it is very easy to go by the OFF position, and the power comes on, with no warning. Very dangerous, because you can walk away, thinking you turned it off, but the device comes on and overheats. This switch should have a hard stop when you get to the OFF position,

The product, in the report: Delonghi Toaster Oven Model RO2058 Color: Black
Toaster oven is about 1 year old in good, clean condition. Turned oven on, like always, rotating the control timer knob to approx 20 minute position. After 3-5 min the oven began to arc internally behind the control panel area. Smoke and fire could be seen coming from the unit. I noticed immediately and unplugged unit from wall but fire persisted internally behind the control panel.
Removed unit from house and fire eventually extinguished itself inside the unit.
