The reports, as CPSC published them

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

  2. No one hurt

Made Jun 15, 2011, published by CPSC Jul 11, 2011

The product, in the report: Wolfgang Puck Commercial Power Blender (HSN Item 119368, Model BCBB0020, Intertek 3047191, Date Code 1911) 120V 60Hz 1200W

Ordered a Wolfgang Puck Commercial Power Blender (HSN Item 119368, Model BCBB0020, Intertek 3047191, Date Code 1911) from Home Shopping Network (HSN) on 6/7/2011. Received it 6/13/2011 and tried to use it 6/14/2011. Plugged it into a standard 120v 20amp circuit. Machine started spewing out carbon dust from brushes, started arcing and began to overheat and smoke. Had I let the machine run it would have caught fire. Machine label says it is rated for 120v 60Hz 1200w but I suspect the Chinese manufacturer shipped 120v 50Hz machines instead. I called W.P. Appliances, Inc. at [REDACTED] to report machine as a fire and electrical hazard but they seemed uninterested and merely told me to return item to HSN. Contacted HSN and they also did not seem interested in hazard details but told me to return item. I am concerned that someone will try to make soup with the machine which requires it to run for several minutes as that is long enough to cause a fire if left unattended.
