Emergency room Made Jan 2, 2024, sent to the company Jan 5, 2024, published by CPSC Jan 23, 2024
The product, in the report: Features: Vitamix Venturist V1200-Red color------Variable Speed and Pulse Controls Let You Fine-Tune Every Texture Built-In Timer Helps You Avoid Over-Processing Your Blends, Includes A 20-Ounce SELF-DETECT™ Blending Cup And 8-Ounce SELF-DETECT™ Blending Bowl That Allow You To Make Smaller Batches. Dimensions : 4.5 x 4.5 x 3.8 inches Capacity : 8-ounces Product Weight : .858 lbs. Material : Cups (Tritan), Storage Lid (Polypropylene), Blade base (delrene), Blade (Stainless Steel)
For an extended period, we have routinely utilized blenders for tasks such as grinding spices, making sauce, and juicing. After thorough consideration, we opted to invest in a Vitamix, specifically the Venturist V1200 model in Red, purchased from Costco on November 29, 2020. This blender variant is equipped with three different jars, all of which my wife and I use regularly.
On January 5, 2023, while my wife was grinding spices using the [REDACTED] (nut butter jar), an incident occurred. This particular jar requires proper screwing onto the base with the blade and should be mounted upside down in the blender. Failure to completely secure or mount the jar correctly prevents the blender from initiating the grinding process. Unfortunately, during the grinding process, the jar unscrewed itself from the base. In an attempt to prevent spills and avoid spraying spices, my wife attempted to secure the jar manually and stop the blender. However, the jar dislodged from the base, resulting in severe lacerations to her middle and ring fingers. The injury caused significant blood loss, immense pain, and dizziness.
Swift action was taken, and my wife was immediately taken to an urgent care facility where she received nine stitches to mitigate further blood loss. Despite being prescribed painkillers, she endured constant pain and disrupted sleep for several weeks. Subsequently, she underwent a procedure at [REDACTED] Hospital to remove the stitches and realign the tissues, as they were not properly positioned due to the substantial blood loss. It took an additional month for her to recover and regain the ability to use her right hand for basic activities. Since the incident, her right-hand ring finger has not functioned normally, and she experiences intermittent pain.
I am prepared to provide medical treatment records and doctor’s findings as needed by your office. It is noteworthy that the product details indicate that if a jar is not mounted or screwed properly, the blender is designed to detect this and should not initiate its functioning.

No one hurt Made Mar 2, 2022, sent to the company Mar 22, 2022, published by CPSC Apr 5, 2022
The product, in the report: Vitamix 5200 blender container- 64 oz
My vitamix 5200 64-oz container broke when it fell off the counter. The blade sheared off completely and landed a couple feet from my 4 year old son. It was a scary moment. Had he been any closer he could have been seriously injured. I would like to know what I can do about this and how this will be handled. I believe this should be looked into as a product defect/ safety issue.

The product, in the report: Vitamix Blender Model VM0197 (3320)
The very first time that the consumer used the blender, it caught fire.
Within 5 minutes of turning on the blender, arcing and flashes of bright light,. along with burning smoke, emitted from the blender. The blender has 10 speeds and it was sent to 4/5 speed. The blender was filled halfway with a soft rice. The consumer immediately pulled the blender’s electric plug from the outlet and rushed the product out into his garage.

No one hurt Made Jun 25, 2015, sent to the company Jul 6, 2015, published by CPSC Jul 20, 2015
The product, in the report: Vita-Mix 7500 blender, black (I have since packaged the blender to return it, so I don’t have access to the serial number or manufacture date)
I purchased a Vita-Mix 7500 blender online based on Consumer Reports high rating. After cleaning it, I tested it out. Tiny black particles were emitted into my food; about the same amount on each of 5 tests (maybe 30-50 visible particles in 2 cups of water in a white bowl; the water was free of visible particles prior to being blended). Online research finds many such reports; apparently Vita-Mix has told consumers the particles are Teflon shards coming from an O-ring on the blade assembly. Not every individual blender is affected, but all models may be involved. They have not recalled the blenders, stating Teflon is inert and therefore safe for consumption. A redesigned container and blade apparatus is being worked on and may be ready at the end of 2015. I notified Consumer Reports for their awareness in rating these blenders, and they suggested I contact CPSC, as well. Teflon may be inert, but it seems irresponsible to sell a product touted as useful for healthy eating, even as you’re aware that parts of the apparatus are being consumed with that healthy food.

No one hurt Made Jan 17, 2015, sent to the company Jan 28, 2015, published by CPSC Feb 11, 2015
The product, in the report: Vitamix 5200, made by the Vita-Mix Corporation headquartered in Cleveland, OH
We bought our 80+ year-old mother a Vitamix 5200 blender for Christmas (made by the Vita-Mix Corporation headquartered in Cleveland, OH). The first time she went to use it, she had the idea to remove the lid (while it was still running) to help stir the mixture of vegetables she was grinding up in the Vitamix, using the plastic pusher device that comes with the machine. You can imagine the scenario from there, but the worst part is that the plastic food pusher shattered when she unintentionally contacted the in-motion chopping blade. The pieces of the shattered food pusher became high-speed projectiles that went everywhere. By the grace of God, none of the flying pieces of sharp-edged shattered plastic hit my mom, which was a truly miraculous escape of injury. That the Vitamix machine is able to operate even with the lid removed is a real concern because I know my mom will not be the only person out there to try that stunt, and in all likelihood, others will unfortunately not be as lucky as my mom was in avoiding injury. In seeing those shattered pieces of hard, sharp-edged plastic, and how far they flew across the room, I can tell you that anyone being hit with any of those pieces would have every potential to sustain serious or even life-threatening injury. This product is excellent for its intended purpose of grinding food, but the lack of a safety switch to prevent its operation with the lid off is a serious safety omission that needs correcting to prevent severe and life-threatening injury to consumers.

The product, in the report: High end blender for making juices, smoothies and many other food preparations.
When operating the model 5200, the noise / decibles are so loud it hurts my ears. If it hurts the ears, it is causing ear damage. Newer models are a lot quieter, but the company refuses to exchange. My model was made in July, 2008.
