  1. No incident, no one hurt

Made Feb 8, 2022, sent to the company Feb 10, 2022, published by CPSC Feb 25, 2022

The product, in the report: Mueller Austria Ultra-Stick 500 Watt 9-Speed Immersion Multi-Purpose Hand Blender Heavy Duty Copper Motor Brushed 304 Stainless Steel With Whisk, Milk Frother Attachments

For Christmas in 2020, I received the Mueller Austria Ultra-Stick 500 Watt 9-Speed Immersion Multi-Purpose Hand Blender Heavy Duty Copper Motor Brushed 304 Stainless Steel With Whisk, Milk Frother Attachments from Amazon- sold by Home Moderne. I have since used it only three times, twice for blending together butternut squash soup and this last being a few days ago 2/6/22 when smoke arose and the device nearly caught fire while simply mixing muffin batter. I was using the whisk attachment on the lowest speed setting and was only quick pulsing to combine my ingredients. At first, I thought it was the mix that had blown up into the air as I initially smelled the chocolate. I only used the product for all of 20 seconds when I started to smell burning and saw it was still smokey to which I unplugged the device and popped out the whisk attachment. Upon doing so, a piece of melted plastic fell out and an AWFUL burnt plastic smell arose from either end. You can still smell it on the product, I don’t dare use this again!

The product features state the Mueller Ultra-Stick can be used to make delicious treats such as salsa, pesto, pancake and watter, batter, smoothies, cheese sauce, homemade tomato sauce, hollandaise sauce, whipped cream, apple butter, various Indian dishes, soups and cakes. Can also be used for chopping and making cocktails and much more though I can’t imagine how this unit would have upheld against something thicker.

I contacted the seller regarding this, however they said because it’s passed a year warranty, I could only purchase another unit at a discounted price as a means of a refund. There are several great reviews of this product, but MANY others have also had burning/fire issues like myself. I think this is a dangerous product and should be recalled immediately or at the very least looked into. I think it is irresponsible of the manufacturer/seller to only have a solution of purchasing another product exactly the same, so that I have purchased and spent money on two products with potential for both to catch fire. I do not see how this benefits or helps any consumer.
