1. WHAT HAPPENED - A blender blade, purchased June 28, 2025, through Amazon for an [REDACTED] blender, seized while making a breakfast smoothie. The blending process was nearing completion when, within approximately five seconds, the blender motor revolutions started to reduce, coming to a complete stop. There was a puff of smoke and I immediately turned off the blender. Since the blending of the smoothie was completed before the malfunction, my wife and I proceeded to drink the smoothie. We sensed a different, somewhat bitter taste of our regular, breakfast smoothie. We immediately stopped drinking. The cause of the malfunction was the blender blade. I removed it from the blender and cleaned it. It was difficult to rotate the blade and pieces of metal fell out from under the shroud. A black, greasy substance, possibly a lubricant, coated the base that engages with the blender stud. I believe the bitter taste of the smoothie we ingested was caused by the greasy substance and metal fragments from the malfunction of the blender blade.
