  1. Emergency room

Made Aug 4, 2026, sent to the company Aug 7, 2026, published by CPSC Aug 21, 2026

The product, in the report: Oster Pro Series countertop blender with touchscreen controls and high-performance motor. Black blender base with preset blending programs, including a “Smoothie” mode. Product includes the personal/individual-size blending cup (“[REDACTED]” cup) with threaded blade assembly attachment. The incident occurred while using the personal blending cup attachment in Smoothie mode.

Urgent safety concern, serious injury involving Oster Pro Series Blender.

I am writing to report a serious safety incident involving my Oster Pro Series Blender that resulted in a severe hand injury requiring emergency medical treatment.

On the morning of Wednesday, July 29, I was preparing a smoothie using the individual-sized blending cup attachment. I assembled the blender by attaching the blade assembly to the cup and securing the cup to the blender base in accordance with normal operation. I then selected the “Smoothie” preset and pressed the Start button.

Shortly after the blender began operating, the base started vibrating and shaking violently. The vibration became strong enough that the blender began moving across my countertop. I immediately reached toward the blender to turn it off.

As I did so, the blending cup suddenly detached from the blender and was propelled across the room along with its contents. The rotating blades were exposed, and my fingers came into contact with them, causing deep lacerations.

I was transported to the emergency room, where the injuries required stitches. My treating providers have advised that I will likely require physical therapy after the stitches are removed to help restore function to my fingers.

After returning home, I examined the blender. I observed that although the blade assembly appeared to remain threaded onto the cup, the cutter blade and the silicone sealing gasket were tilted upward on one side rather than sitting evenly.

I also observed that during operation of the “Smoothie” preset, the blender repeatedly starts and stops while the personal blending cup rotates alternately in opposite directions. I do not know whether this operating sequence contributed to the detachment, but I believe the circumstances should be reviewed and investigated.

I have preserved the blender and all of its components in their current condition. I also have:

Photographs of my injuries. Photographs of the blender and blade assembly after the incident. Security camera video capturing the incident. Medical records documenting my emergency treatment.

Please advise how you would like me to provide these materials and whether you would like the blender made available for inspection. I also request that this incident be documented as a product safety complaint and investigated by the appropriate department.

Given the seriousness of my injuries, I would appreciate a prompt response outlining the next steps in your investigation and claims process.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your response.

  2. No one hurt

Made Jun 23, 2021, sent to the company Jun 28, 2021, published by CPSC Jul 13, 2021

The product, in the report: Oster Blender | Pro 1200 with Glass Jar, 24-Ounce Smoothie Cup and Food Processor Attachment, Brushed Nickel from Amazon in August of 2016. Model BLSTMB-CBF-000 Name: Oster Blender | Pro 1200

Oster Blender | Pro 1200 with Glass Jar, 24-Ounce Smoothie Cup and Food Processor Attachment, Brushed Nickel purchased from Amazon in August of 2016. (Amazon lists it as BLSTMB-CBF-000). 10 months after purchase, the blades snapped off in my shake --which I did not know until I took a tablespoonful of my shake. I alerted Oster and Amazon about this. Oster removed my product review and sent a brand new replacement blender – the exact same model. I assumed that because they sent the exact same model blender that meant the issue was an anomaly and not a design or material flaw.

In 2021 3 ½ years after I received the replacement Oster Pro 1200 Blender, the blade broke in half in my smoothie and I did not know until I spooned the two pieces into my mouth. Before having my smoothie, I even make a point of just checking the blade/housing. It looked “fine” - the blades are layered so I couldn’t tell by sight that anything broke-until I found the blades in my mouth, again. I have made smoothies every day for 3 decades using the single purpose, no frills Oster Blenders at work. After thousands of days of daily use with plain Oster blender --- no blade ever broke. This is a design flaw.

Another user, a mother of a 3-year-old shared same photos of broken blades coming off in the food she was about to serve her 3 year old son. This is a hazardous design flaw. Yet Oster continues to sell the blender on third party sites, like Amazon and [REDACTED]. I checked. They just restocked inventory on Amazon ~June 23, 2021 well after I notified them and flagged prior occurrences for me and for another user.

Oster has warning about sharp blades in their materials. I am lucky I didn’t cut my mouth either time. Or start to swallow. Oster knows about each incident. I contacted them repeatedly to say this is a dangerous product. I really hope they have their newer combo Blender/Food Processor evaluated in a lab to make sure the blades or the drive will not cause this to happen again to someone.

The product, in the report: The blade is made by Oster. It is the 4 blade crush Pro.

I contacted Oster Consumer Care to report that after using their replacement blender blade less than 2 months it stopped working because it developed 3 small cracks in the metal that fits over the post in the blender. I asked for a replacement under a warranty. I was told I could purchase a new blade. They didn’t seem concerned that cracks developed in the metal. It seems if the cracks continue the blade would eventually come apart posing a hazard.

The product, in the report: Ostet Pro 1200 Electric blender with portable glass jar, model #blstmb. Serial# mb-cbg-ko11t1.

I turned on Oster Pro 1200 electric blender #blstmb. The portable glass jar instantly flew off the base, allowing the loose, moving blade to slice up my small right finger as well as the bone. The high power button is at the top of blender near the blade housing. The entire kitchen was splattered. I had to go to the ER to get 14 stitches. I got an infection and had surgery to clean out infection and remove bone fragment. I am in a cast. This was a horrific, painful experience. I had owned this blender for one year and purchased it from Target. The housing is faulty and could have killed me.
