The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

The product, in the report: Nutribullet 1200w Large Blender Combo

While making a standard smoothie - using only typical smoothie ingredients, no hot liquids, effervescent items, or anything outside of normal use - my blender caught fire internally. The fire originated inside the unit while it was in operation. I was standing directly next to the appliance at the time and am fortunate that it did not explode. The fire appears to have originated at the blade assembly and motor base.

Nutribullet blender model NBC-12A - black smoke poured out of bottom and side vents- strong electrical fire smell. Unplugged item. Smoke continued so I put the base outside. Contacted nutribullet and based on their trouble shooting they are telling me this is wear and tear due to not buying a new pitcher/blade.

The product, in the report: Nutribullet Baby - The Complete Baby Food Prep System

I was using my Nutribullet for Baby food and I noted black discoloring around the gasket. I thought it was part of the rubber seal. I removed the gasket and saw it was covered in black mold. I looked for ways to clean it, and the manufacturer recommends not removing the rubber gasket to clean the machine. The Nutribullet company recommends replacing the blade head every 6 months. This is not an acceptable solution for cleaning machines that are used to puree food for adults and especially babies.

While making my usual smoothie, the blade broke off and was in my shake. I drank the shake and luckily realized the blade part was in my mouth. The company is requesting the damaged item back, but I notice this is not the first complaint. My product defect and photos look exactly the same as a complaint filed a number of years ago. This product should be recalled as someone could choke.

The product, in the report: NutriBullet Baby Bullet Blender Color: white and light blue Model NBY-50100 UPC 23LJ06162001801

I was using NutriBullet Baby Bullet Blender to make a puree for my 11-month-old baby. I was using it regularly (once or twice per day for the last 4 months). I had followed the manufacturer’s instructions on how to use and clean the product. Tonight I’ve noticed metal shavings in the baby food after processing it with NutriBullet Baby Bullet Blender. I’ve inspected all parts of the product and found the middle piece where are the blades are shaking and causing uneven blade rotating. I tried to blend pure water to check what is going to happen and there were small pieces of silver metal shavings and black rubber in it. I’m really worried about this unsafe product and the harm it may have caused to my baby and all other babies. I still have a product and I can send it for further inspection. Please feel free to contact me about this report if you have any other questions.

Product: Baby Bullet, Nutribullet model number NBY50100

This product may have harmed my child! The washer/bushing on the blade does not completely seal the bearing. This means that whatever grease is used in the bearing under the blade LEAKED INTO THE FOOD. This is a health and safety hazard! I hope whatever grease was used is food safe as some of the tainted food was eaten before we caught this.

To test/recreate - Hold the blade cap and push the bearing up as it would be during use. If there is a gap as shown no matter how small, the food will be contaminated. You can even see in the photo a line of the bearing grease on the blue part of the cap under the metal housing.

Likewise to test versus a control, fill the pitcher with water and blend for 30-40 seconds. Place the water in a white dish. If the water is CLEARLY AND VISIBILY tinted as ours was this indicates grease leaking into the food. This is a product intended for babies, who knows what the long term impact of ingesting grease like this will be.

The product, in the report: baby food blender

Caller stated that he noticed that the black rubber on the gasket of the baby blender was spraying black residue into the food content. He stated that at first they thought it was just on the exterior until they realized it was contaminating the food.

4/13 The manufacturer was contacted and he was informed that they could send a replacement but he would have to pay the shipping cost. Caller feels that the company is not concerned about the safety of the product.

Caller is concerned that this blender is a health hazard and should be recalled.

The product, in the report: Nutribullet Model 900 Series Magic Bullet

My Nutribullet exploded this morning when I was making pancake batter. I thought perhaps it was the Baking Powder in the batter but my research on this theory came up empty. However, the canister was hot when I went to open it. I had not put any hot liquids into it. It had 2 room temperature bananas, 2 eggs from the refrigerator, baking powder, and some vegetable oil. It should not have gotten hot. This is the first time it’s ever done that. But when I opened the canister, this batter mixture exploded EVERYWHERE with a very intense pop like a bomb had gone off. Somehow the inside of the canister got hot and pressurized. I didn’t get burned or hurt in any way but I thought this information was important enough to pass along. There is definitely a potential for danger with this product.

My Nutri Bullet Blender top exploded from the blade base while still in the motor unit when i grabbed the cup after 10- seconds or so of blending a crepe type batter, when the top cup flew off, the blades were still spinning and my palm went into the blades causing three deep lacerations in my palm. The unit was still running while i was bleeding and the only way to turn it off was my pulling out the plug from the wall.

The product, in the report: Counter-top small blender

The consumer’s daughter was using the blender, when the plastic cup on top and the base of the blender exploded. The plastic cup portion and parts of the blade landed on top of the kitchen cabinets. The shine of the cabinets have sustained damaged. The contents from the liquid splattered onto the kitchen ceiling, nearby blinds and her cabinets.

The consumer saw complaints on-line, where other people indicated that their blender exploded.

10/19/2020: The consumer called the manufacturer prior to calling the CPSC. The firm’s rep. asked the consumer for the make and model of the product, but she did not have that information. She told their rep. that she would call them back.

She took a picture of the product and indicated that the following information is listed on it: 26TS E327988 and 2ANC(K or X) NB205.

The consumer’s daughter sustained injuries to her face. The consumer may provide more specifics when she receives the report.

The product, in the report: Blender

The warnings on the product indicate: Make sure your liquid or ingredients do not exceed the max line.

Also Under cup safety, it states: In exceeding the max line can result in leakage and may create a dangerous pressurization, which could cause the vessel and blade to separate.

Problem/ The consumer’s cup does not have a max line.

He called the firm and was advised to measure 2 fingers down from the top, to set a max line or measure 1-1/2” from the top. A rep. said that some of them were apparently produced without a max line

The consumer used the product once, but discontinued his use. Based the manufacturer’s warnings and lack of a max line, the consumer believes that the potential may be present for an injury hazard.

Homeland Housewares, Llc is written on the product.

The consumer received the product as a gift.

He contacted the mfr., and asked for a users guide and was told it would cost $9.95.

His daughter has a same brand - different model and it “does” have a max line.

He called the firm 1/14/2020 and on 1/16/2020, Tel: [REDACTED]

No injuries and the product does not appear to be recalled.

The submitter said she was making a fruit smoothie and she had the blender on for about 10 seconds. She then tried to open it but it was very difficult and she indicated that it seemed like there was a lot of pressure inside. The submitter said after struggling for some time she was able to open it but the top exploded and hit her in the chest. The submitter described the incident similar to opening a champagne bottle. The submitter said the top flew off hitting her in the chest and the contents went everywhere. The submitter said had pains in her chest from the incident but she did not seek medical attention.

The submitter said she used the unit again about 2 weeks ago and she has been unable to open the blender. She said she is scared to force it open because of the last incident. She said her husband has also tried opening it but he was unsuccessful. The submitter believes the product is unsafe and should be examined.

The submitter indicated that when she has used the unit in the past it would be a little hard to open but now it has become extremely hard and unsafe to open.

The submitter plans to contact the firm and notify them of her safety concerns.

The product, in the report: NutriBullet 900 Series blender

I pureed a soup in the NutriBullet 900 Series Blender. When taking off the lid of the blender, it exploded like a bomb and caused 1st and 2nd degree burns across my chest, arms, neck and face. I went to the ER immediately and they cared for my extensive burns. That was a week ago - since then, I’ve had to do daily wound cleaning and dressing changes (at the ER or a wound clinic or with a nurse).

I have since found several other stories online in which other people (even a 4 year old boy in Florida!) suffered horrible burns like mine. There are no warnings on this blender about putting hot liquids in it. Unlike a [REDACTED] coffee cup, there is nothing that reads NO HOT LIQUID.

In our litigious society, I am quite shocked that this company doesn’t have such basic warnings about hot liquids...especially since I have seen multiple stories online about other burn victims.

This company should be required to add language in large bold letters to each NutriBullet device that reads NO HOT LIQUID.

It has been a very painful ordeal (second most painful event for me next to childbirth) and I don’t want anyone else to ever suffer this pain.

I cannot work. I cannot pick up my 2 year old daughter. My burns hurt and itch. I have limited mobility. Please do something to ensure that others are warned about this kitchen device - no hot liquids should ever be placed in it. The manufacturer must be required to add these warnings immediately...and a recall would be beneficial as well.

The product, in the report: Nutribullet Blender

My wife was scalded using the Nutribullet blender. On November 27, 2016, she was making carrot soup. She sautéed the carrots with onions and spices, added liquid, and simmered for approximately 30 minutes. She then removed the soup from the heat and let it cool before transferring it to the Nutribullet. She began blending the soup, but heard a loud pop and the heated soup exploded violently from the unit. My wife had her hand on the top of the cup. She managed to close her eyes before being hit by the liquid, but she had her hand on the top of the unit, and she immediately felt severe burning on her face and arms. I took her to the hospital, where we spent hour and she was several, largely ineffective, pain medications. She was then transferred, via ambulance, to another hospital with a specialized burn clinic, where she finally received effective pain treatment. She was diagnosed with 1st- and 2nd-degree burns on her face and arm, including a 2nd-degree burn on her eyelid, and prescribed medicated creams to apply to her burns. The doctors told her her it will take her eyelid will likely require at least four months to heal.

I use my Nutribullet every day and discovered the hard way, never never never put hot foods in your container to blend. I did. It created so much pressure inside the container that I was unable to unscrew the blade. So I went to bed and six hours later, I was awakened by a loud pop! I went downstairs to discover the contents of my smoothie sprayed all over the ceiling, walls, appliances and floor. Apparently the container could no longer hold the pressure I created from grinding hot cooked food. It exploded, which could of caused serious injury. I was lucky, I was in bed. The manufacturer could remedy this by simply placing a little rubber cork on top of container to pop open automatically or manually when dangerous levels of pressure build up inside. The other complaint I have is that the underside of the blades is next to impossible to clean.

    Thank you.

I have the Nutribullet 900 Pro. I have enjoyed it however this week while making a protein shake (with mostly liquid and only about three ice cubes) The blade broke off in my drink. I did not notice it until after I drank my drink. Luckily I did not ingest the blade. It was in the bottom of the cup.

The product, in the report: Blender System Date Manufactured: 2114

This caller purchased her blender system around the end of June/beginning of July 2014 time frame. She used it with no problems until August 29th, 2014 when she was blending a shake mixture of fruits, vegetables and water when after less than four minutes it suddenly blew up. The explosion of the blender system left the caller with burns on her forehead, face and neck. Her forehead and the side of left cheek bubbled up from the heat. She went to her physician also on August 29th, 2014 who diagnosed her with 3rd degree burns of her face, forehead and neck. She was referred to a dermatologist and then plastic surgeon. She was seen by dermatologist around October 13th/14th, 2014 and was advised that the burns were most likely 2nd degree from what she was looking at 6 weeks after the incident. She was worried about the scarring of the front center of her neck. The caller’s primary doctor advised her that she would need to be seen by a plastic surgeon to treat the scarring on the front of her neck then provided the caller with a referral. The caller stated that she thanked God that she was wearing her glasses because she is already blind in her right eye and the explosion if she hadn’t been wearing her glasses could have worsened damage to her eyes.

She contacted the manufacturer in June/July 2014 but was advised that they would replace their part but that she should only have had the unit running for two minutes but she ran it for almost four minutes.

As I was making a smoothie a couple of days ago (Oct. 8th), a piece of the blade broke off the NutriBullet without my knowledge. I poured my smoothie into a glass and proceeded to drink it. A piece of the blade was in my mouth and thinking it was a piece of strawberry I chewed it. If I swallowed it I would have choked. I want to know why a blade would break off during making a smoothie. I have only had it for 5 months. What action do they plan to take and how are they going to prevent this from happening to someone else. What if this happened to an elderly person or a young child? I was promised a newer, hopefully better, version. However, they had FedEx come to pick up the damaged harmful NutriBullet and have not given me a full refund or the newer NutriBullet. I have fibrous dysplasia (benign tumor) in my mouth (jaw area), if this had cut that area or I had swallowed it (the blade is smooth, but sharp) I would have been seriously injured or it could have been fatal. I have pictures that I would like to send to your attention. Nutribullet was sent the pictures and is aware of the problem, however they are doing nothing to address it. Order placed: May 11, 2014 Received Tues. May 20, 2014 TOTAL $117.77 SHIP TO [REDACTED] ORDER # [REDACTED] I am now requesting a full refund and the replacement as promised. I would like the public to know the dangers of the Nutribullet that I received, so that no one is injured, especially the elderly and children.

P.S. I have pictures that I would like to share with you of the blade.
