No one hurt Made Jan 2, 2026, sent to the company Jan 7, 2026, published by CPSC Jan 22, 2026
The product, in the report: Kitchenaid K400 mixer
I have a KitchenAide K400 blender. I noticed discoloration in a casserole I was preparing and found small black particles in the food I prepared in the blenders 16oz cup. I then thoroughly cleaned the cup and blender, put 8oz of clear filtered water in it and used the blender for 10 seconds. The water was now murky brown with black particles. I certainly consumed this contaminated material previously. No warnings of this are in the product literature. It is a $300 blender and about 4 years old, with only occasional use.

No incident, no one hurt Made Aug 29, 2025, sent to the company Sep 5, 2025, published by CPSC Sep 19, 2025
The product, in the report: KitchenAid K400 Variable Speed Blender, Passion Red
A KitchenAid K400 Variable Speed Blender (Model KSB4027PA, Serial Number WB0848967) experienced a catastrophic failure during normal residential use. While the blender was in operation, the motor base began to emit a large volume of smoke and a strong smell of burning electrical components. The unit became dangerously hot to the touch.
The product was being used by a household member at the time. The user immediately unplugged the appliance to prevent it from igniting. No injuries occurred, but had the user not been present to act immediately, the appliance would have caught fire, posing a significant risk of property damage, smoke inhalation, and serious burns to anyone in the home. The failure appears to be a critical defect in the product’s electrical system, creating a severe fire hazard.

No incident, no one hurt Made Oct 21, 2021, sent to the company Nov 3, 2021, published by CPSC Nov 18, 2021
The product, in the report: Household blender
I have a KitchenAid household blender which I purchased in 2008, model KSB560WHO. I have used it about once a year, so 10-15 times total. A year ago I noticed cracks at the base of the plastic blender jar in each of the 4 corners. I do not know when they first appeared. I used the blender one more time after first noticing the cracks, and then noticed that the cracks had gotten even larger, after just one more use. I consider this dangerous, because shards of the hard plastic could eventually end up in the food. The cracks are somewhat difficult to see because of the pattern in the plastic, so a user, like me, might not notice it right away. If companies are still using this same plastic for blender jars, they need to stop. This product is no longer manufactured, so any related websites are after-market ([REDACTED], product parts companies, manuals websites). But perhaps the same plastic is being used for similar products across the industry?

The product, in the report: https://www.kitchenaid.com/countertop-appliances/hand-blenders/hand-blender-products/p.3-speed-hand-blender.khb2351cu.html COLOR: Silver and Black Dimensions: DEPTH: 2-5/16 in HEIGHT: 15-13/16 in WIDTH: 2-5/16 in MODEL KHB2351 INCLUDES (1) 8” Blending arm with fixed s-blade, (1) Whisk attachment, (1) 2.5 cup chopper attachment with lid, (1) 3 cup blending jar with lid, (1) Storage bag
I have a KitchenAid handheld immersion blender that comes with a miniature food processor attachment. The lid to the food processor attachment traps water, which is impossible to get out. This has caused mold growth inside. When you look at product reviews, you can see this is a common issue. I contacted KitchenAid customer service to replace the lid, and they refused.

No one hurt Made Mar 4, 2012, sent to the company Mar 12, 2012, published by CPSC Mar 26, 2012
The product, in the report: black base, multi speed kitchen blender. 120V 6.0 AMP 60HZ
I was using my blender as I usually do to blend bananas and after starting up the blender I was started to hear very loud popping sounds and immediately stopped the blender. I discovered that the stainless steel blade had broke off and was being blended inside the pitcher cracking the jar. There were no inuries, just very frightening and lucky it didn’t pierce the container entirely.
