Hurt, no treatment Made Dec 7, 2017, sent to the company Feb 2, 2018, published by CPSC Feb 16, 2018
The product, in the report: Blendtec red blender with Twister Jar and regular round lid with vent.
I was burned when a Blendtec blender lid flew off while pureeing hot squash. The lid repeatedly flew off and I was very careful to secure it and not overfill. I was using the Twister jar with the rubber lid with vent (not the Twister apparatus).
I received first and second degree burns on my neck, arms and torso and will have some scarring. It did hit my face as well but I was fortunate in this regard. I’ll have scars on my shoulder and possibly chest. Had very bad blistering from the wounds.
The round lids seem more susceptible to being forced off by centrifugal force than the five side ones, although the design could be improved. I am very concerned that someone could get seriously injured. I was fortunate that my face didn’t get hit worse.
I contacted Blendtec and they sent me two of the same autoform saying they’d get back to me, usually within 24 hours and they completely ignored me.
It really concerns me that they didn’t even call me or ask questions about what happened. It was really painful and I am really angry that I paid a lot of money for a product that is not safe. Their lack of response is inexcusable and irresponsible. The jars are dangerous for consumers.
They market them explicitly for processing hot foods. Mine even has a button programmed for this and really, they shouldn’t be doing this. Their lids don’t secure in a way that doesn’t put consumers at risk.
I’m not sure what kind of authority you have, but thank you for reading this.
Regards,

No one hurt Made May 2, 2017, sent to the company May 10, 2017, published by CPSC May 24, 2017
The product, in the report: Blendtec wildside 36 oz. blender jar for use with Blendtec blender model 570. Has the number 15012 inscribed on the bottom of the jar.
While attempting to blend frozen mangos in my Blendtec 570 blender, a jagged chunk of the wall of the blender jar broke out and was thrown across the room at high velocity. Thankfully no-one was in the path of this projectile, but it had the potential to inflict mortal injury if someone had been.

First aid Made Nov 13, 2015, sent to the company Nov 23, 2015, published by CPSC Dec 8, 2015
The product, in the report: Blendtec total blender, black model ES3
Hello, I used my blendtec blender, then was cleaning the counter that it was sitting on. I cleaned with a sponge and went close to the right side and where or is comes up on the sides I felt pain and had a bad strach that was bleeding. Upon investigation I see that there are extremely sharp points on all the plastic corners. I then cut my hand a second time while cleaning. I believe they change the design but should check the points of the base and round them.

No one hurt Made Jan 22, 2015, sent to the company Feb 3, 2015, published by CPSC Feb 19, 2015
The product, in the report: Blendtec Total Blender Classic with Wildside Jar - The jar number is: 12351 - it is 36 ounces - Wild Side
The Blendtec Wildside Blender jar exploded while I was operating it in my kitchen on Monday, January 12, 2015. I purchased the Blendtec from Costco approximately two years ago. I make a protein shake every morning with the following ingredients: ice, water, zucchini, spinach, beet, carrot, small baby cucumber, banana, frozen berries, and protein powder. I generally “pulse” the shake a number of times, to cut up the big pieces, and then press the button for “whole juice” or “crush ice/shakes.” I did that on January 12, and, within a few seconds of putting the machine on “crush ice/shakes,” (my hand was still on the lid), the jar exploded with a ferocity that sounded like a bomb going off. It just so happened that the side of the jar which exploded was facing the windows in my kitchen and the wall. My arm was in front of the jar, so it “broke” the explosion a bit from spreading even further. My arm was covered with a thick, fuzzy jacket, so the plastic and food hitting me did not cause any harm. Unfortunately, in addition to the walls, floors and everything in range, my bench seat (with custom made cushions, one chair cushion, and one of my two blinds in the kitchen were covered with the contents of the shake.
Of great concern, of course, are the safety issues. As is obvious to me, if the rupture had been on the side where I was standing, the plastic pieces could very well have exploded onto my face. The plastic pieces, are shaped like shards of glass – with sharp points. With the force of this explosion, and an unlucky spin of the plastic, an eye could have been lost. This is the gravest apprehension I have with continuing to use the Blendtec.
I also have great concern that the manufacturer told me they were “sorry,” sent me a new Blender Wildside jar and did not explain why the jar exploded.
