Hurt, no treatment Made Jun 30, 2015, sent to the company Jul 9, 2015, published by CPSC Jul 23, 2015
The product, in the report: This concerns a Black & Decker FusionBlade Blender- PB1002 purchased at Target in December of 2014. I was clearing up the kitchen after dinner. Somehow I depressed the on button of my husband’s personal smoothie maker (I think with the handle of a pan that was on the counter. At the same time my left hand passed against the blade of the machine, and it sliced my thumb and the palm of my hand. This is a unique product because the blade can be attached to one of two personal cups, and somehow the design allows for the motor to operate and the blade to spin even when there is no cup in place. The warnings in the instructions account for this, but since it’s not my appliance and I don’t use it or clean it, I didn’t read the manual. This is definitely a candidate for recall based on dangerous design. Model number is PB1002

Emergency room Made Feb 5, 2015, sent to the company Mar 11, 2015, published by CPSC Mar 25, 2015
The product, in the report: Personal Blender
The consumer noted she was preparing to make a smoothie and plugged the base of the blender in the wall electrical outlet...Immediately the blender turned on...She reached with her left hand to press the silver button to turn it off and an exposed blade lacerated her palm...She then had to reach with her right hand to unplug the machine...She was taken, by her husband, to the North Florida Regional Medical Center Emergency room for wound care and stitches...Upon returning home she looked at the blender and saw that the lid was on the base with the blade exposed. She received stitches and later on had to receive follow up surgery from a specialist on 2/2/15.
Caller feels that this blender is a safety hazard and that it should have been designed not to operate if the product is not closed properly.
The manufacturer was not contacted as yet.
The consumer added the product was purchased in Summer 2014 by her mother, and she gave it to her the day she was injured.

No one hurt Made Jun 15, 2014, sent to the company Jun 23, 2014, published by CPSC Jul 8, 2014
The product, in the report: Black & Decker Blender CAT. NO. BL1900 550W 120V-60Hz Stainless Steel and Black Glass Blending Jar
I have a Black & Decker blender that is approximately 6 to 7 years old. Has been used less than 50 times in its life. I used the blender the morning of 6/13/14 to blend a protein shake. After finished I washed the glass container and put it back on the blender base. I forgot to unplug the unit after I was done. I worked a 48 hour shift at the fire station and returned home on the morning of 6/15/14. No one was in the house during this 48 hour period of time. When returned home I noticed pieces of plastic on the counter. I began to look and noticed that the blender had come on and run until the plastic gears and base on the glass jar had come apart. Not sure if the motor burned up or not but the counter was covered with a black soot. I have no idea how long it ran before this happened but I am for sure it is a fire hazard.
