  1. Hospital admission

Made Jan 25, 2021, sent to the company Feb 23, 2021, published by CPSC Mar 9, 2021

The product, in the report: Amazon Basics Multi-Speed Immersion Hand Blender Model Number: MJ-BH3002W1 Color Black Brand Amazon Basics Item Dimensions LxWxH 2.17 x 2.17 x 17.4 inches Wattage 300 watts Item Weight 1.7 Pounds About this item Hand-held immersion blender for soups, smoothies, sauces and more Froth, whip, and blend food and beverages quickly and easily Compact, ergonomic design allows you to reach into cups, pots, pitchers, and bowls Powerful 300 Watt DC motor provides longevity and smooth, quiet operation One-touch on/off and variable speed controls Dishwasher-safe detachable blending wand

I went to use an Amazon Basics Multi-Speed Immersion Hand Blender. When it was plugged in I pressed the on button to trigger the protected propeller blade inside the cup to spin in order to check its speed before inserting it into a cup with liquid. As soon as I pressed the on button, not only did the propeller blade inside the silver cup begin to spin, but the whole bottom half of the machine vibrated at such a high frequency that my left hand that was next to it on the counter got immediately lacerated to shreds by the silver (seemingly protective) cup that turned out to also be as razor sharp as the protected blade inside. I bled profusely and was rushed to the ER where I received 8 stitches, hand x-rays, and an entire forearm splint. I was incredibly lucky that it was just the inside of my hand rather than right below on my wrist where it could have been fatal. I’m deeply concerned for the safety of others with this product, I’m incredibly traumatized from it.
