Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

Viking Dishwasher Model# DFUD042 I Serial# 063701408195 control board caught on fire (see attached pictures). It could have caused a house fire- this happened overnight while we were sleeping. Awful smoke I burning smell. There is a recall on Viking Dishwashers already but this unit did not make the cutoff. Might have to extend the recall beyond the current manufacture date to go back further, as this is an serious issue that goes back beyond the current scope. The control board and plastic casing actually caught on fire and burned. Thank goodness I was able to turn off the main breaker to cut off electricity to the unit or my kitchen or worse my house could have caught on fire.

The product, in the report: Viking Professional Series Dishwasher, Stainless Steel Door

Responded to a reported fire in the kitchen. Homeowner had arrived and found dishwasher on fire. Wife had left the house approximately one hour earlier and the dishwasher was off. Damage was contained to the kitchen cabinets surrounding the dishwasher. Dishwasher was a Viking Professional series but the model and manufacturer plate were not legible. Heavy fire and heat damage to the bottom of the tub and rear of dishwasher. The homeowner does not remember how old the dishwasher is, but it appears at least 5 years old.

The product, in the report: Model VDB450SS, Serial No. 081910D00018347

I purchased a Viking Dishwasher (Model VDB450SS, Serial No. 081910D00018347) for my home and subsequently registered the product. I was never notified of a recall on my unit (Recall date: April 10, 2012; Recall number: 12147) which states”[c]onsumers should immediately stop using the recalled dishwashers and contact Viking’s hotline for a free in-home repair.”

I discovered the recall on or about January 25, 2016, when my unit’s electrical circuit ceased operation and I inquired about service. I called the recall hotline, (800) 241-7239, was assigned Customer ID No. [REDACTED], and was promised a repair kit would be delivered to my home within 15 business days. On March 1, 2016, I call back to the hotline to report that the repair kit still had not arrived, and I was advised that the issue was “escalated” and that the another kit would be sent because they could not trace the 1st one. On March 24, 2016, I again called the hotline because no repair kit has been received. I was told that the company answering the hotline reported the matter to Viking and while I was placed on hold, they tried without success to reach Viking. I left my cell number and demanded a call back.

The failure of Viking to timely address the recall is unacceptable.

Please let me know how the CPSC can assist. My family of 4 has been without a dishwasher for 2 months now.

The product, in the report: Viking Dishwasher Model DFB450 Stainless Steel Serial # 051710D00015339

I have a recalled Viking dishwasher (model: DFB450) that I have been patiently waiting to have repaired. It has been 3 months since the initial contact and at present I am still without a working dishwasher. The dishwasher has been recalled due to an electrical issue. Here are the facts: 1. It took Viking customer service one month to find a repair person to service the dishwasher. 2. The repair person came out to replace the defective part and discovered that another part ( the electrical board) had been damaged (actually burned) and needed to be replaced. 3. 11/6/2015: Another call made to Viking: Viking agreed to have another electrical board sent out for placement after a lengthly discussion. 4 Still waiting for replacement piece.

This dishwasher was on the verge of overheating and nearly caused a fire in my home.

Viking Dishwasher Model DFB450 Serial 052010D00015569 Purchased 06/25/2010

On 01/26/2013 after running the unit, an electrical /plastic smell was found to be coming from the lower portion of the dishwasher. Upon removal of the unit from the cabinets, the acrid smell was determined to be from the underside of the unit. The unit was disconnected and removed from the residence. upon removing the bottom plate on the unit, the connection to and the wires attaching to the “heater” were burnt. Pictures were taken to document the damage and the defective component was removed to maintain it. Upon checking the web site of Viking Range, the recall tool determined that the serial number is outside the range of affected units. These pages were also printed for archival purposes.

The product, in the report: Model VDB 325 SS Serial 062309D00006484

I have a Viking Dishwasher Model # VDB 325SS that is only 2 years old and has major problems. First, it continued running all night long several times. Secondly, it wouldn’t start three times because there was water in the pan. For 2 of those times, I had to let it sit for over a week until the water evaporated. The other time I called a repairman and encountered a $325 bill. He said that I had put too much soap in. However, I consulted the directions and discovered I had followed their guidelines.

The same model of dishwashers that were made a year later have been recalled for a fire hazard. While this dishwasher was not subject to the recall, it is still faulty and probably dangerous. The condo developer where I live purchased the same dishwashers and multiple people have experienced the same problems. Some have had their units catch on fire, too.

This model has additional problems beyond the fire hazard that has been the subject of recall and it should be looked into further.

The product, in the report: Viking Dishwasher

The consumer stated that she walked into her apartment and they noticed a smoke odor. She was unsure of where the smell was being emitted from. The next morning the consumer went to use the dishwasher and it would not turn on. The consumer was not aware of any outer damages to the dishwasher.

The consumer did not experience any damages to her home structure and no one was injured. The consumer was informed of the recall release# 12-147 and believes her dishwasher is experiencing the same signs.

02/07/2012 The consumer contacted a repair company authorized by the manufacture and they sent a technician to service the dishwasher. The technician stated that the dishwasher had an electrical problem. He stated that the “control panel” burnt up. The technician informed her that she would need to replace the control panel (part# 021151-000). The technician informed her that she would receive an estimated pricing for the repairs.

2/13/2012 The consumer received the estimate of $419.00 dollars (out of pocket) for the labor of the repairs. The consumer has not made a decision whether she will declined or accept the repairs.

The consumer believes that this is a fire hazard.
