The product, in the report: UNDER THE COUNTER SIEMENS DISHWASHER SL84A605UC/33 FD860500025
The SIEMENS DISHWASHER I own SL84A605UC/33 FD860500025 started to billow smoke from the front door during a normal wash cycle. Upon inspection of the electrical wiring, it was noted the control board failed and blew a hole through the plastic package. luckily the counter top is not flammable, otherwise the fire could have spread. However the cabinets are wood.
The fire started because of a shorted motor relay. The relay is made in China and of very poor quality. With the poor quality of the printed circuit not being able to support the motor current, this is a serious design flaw. The copper trace thickness does not meet basic electrical engineer safe designs for sufficient skin depth at 60Hz AC. Due to these unreliable parts this dishwasher is unsafe. I have pictures of the burnt parts.
I contacted Siemen/Bosch and while they had similar control board problems with other dishwashers they refused to discuss this matter. They said it was not part of the recall but admitted there was a safety problem with their power wiring.

The product, in the report: Dishwasher
Responded to a reported fire in a residential structure. Dishwasher on fire. Arrived on scene and found all occupant safely out of the structure. We made contact with the residents who stated that the dishwasher was on fire, they all were out of the home and that they shut off the electricity to the home at the main panel. We entered the home and found smoke throughout the residence and smoke coming from the dishwasher door and some burning plastic at the base of the dishwasher. We removed the door of the dishwasher and extinguished it outside. The only other damage to the home was a small amount of charring to the underside of the counter on the plywood underlay. We perfomed horizontal ventilation with a power blower prior to allowing the residents back into the home. No one reported any injuries but the smoke detector did not alert the occupants. Had the fire occurred during nighttime hours when the family was asleep the end result could have been tragically different.

The product, in the report: Siemens SL34A FD8503
I have recently owned a Siemens SL34A FD8503. I did not know about the recall, however I was on the website trying to find out if I could get a brochure but was unsuccessful. My dishwasher was smelling of something burning and found out that the water would not drain out. I called two times over the phone to see if there was a recall on it and both times the operators said “no”. So I just purchased another dishwasher of a different brand. Can I receive any compensation for my loss?
