No one hurt Made Sep 15, 2026, sent to the company Sep 18, 2026, published by CPSC Oct 3, 2026
The product, in the report: LG Dishwasher Silver Model LDT7808SS, SN 009KWFN18107
In January 2026, my LG dishwasher caught fire during normal residential use at my home in [REDACTED]. The fire originated inside or in connection with the dishwasher and caused fire and smoke damage to portions of the surrounding kitchen cabinetry and interior areas.
We discovered and extinguished the fire before it spread further. Fortunately, no one was physically injured, but the incident created a serious risk of injury, death, and substantial property damage.
The dishwasher has remained at my residence and has not been used since the fire. I have photographs, proof of purchase, repair and remediation estimates, and documentation concerning my communications and claim with LG. Two estimates place the related damage and remediation costs at approximately 10,000 to 11,000.
LG was notified of the incident. My claim was subsequently closed after I initially did not have a second estimate. I later obtained the requested second estimate, but my LG [REDACTED] stopped responding to my communications.
Because I was unable to obtain a response, I posted publicly about the dishwasher fire on [REDACTED]. LG responded almost immediately and asked me to provide my name and telephone number so that someone could contact me. I provided the requested information, but no one contacted me. LG then blocked me from interacting with its [REDCATED] page.
After my [REDACTED] post, another consumer contacted me directly and reported experiencing a similar incident involving an LG dishwasher. According to that consumer, their dishwasher also caught fire. I did not personally witness or independently verify that incident, but I can provide the consumers contact information or communications to CPSC with the consumers permission.
I am submitting this report because I am concerned that this applianceor potentially other LG dishwashers of the same or a related modelmay present a serious fire hazard to other consumers. I respectfully request that CPSC document and investigate my incident, determine whether similar fires involving this model or related LG dishwasher models have been reported, and contact me regarding inspection and preservation of the appliance.
I am prepared to provide photographs, model and serial-number information, proof of purchase, repair estimates, LG claim documentation, correspondence with LG, screenshots of LGs [REDACTED] communications, and the message I received from the other consumer.

Hurt, no treatment Made Aug 25, 2026, sent to the company Aug 31, 2026, published by CPSC Sep 15, 2026
The product, in the report: Product Name: LG 24-inch Top Control Smart Built-In Dishwasher with QuadWash and TrueSteam Model Number: LDT7808SS Color: Stainless Steel Dimensions (Width x Height x Depth): 23.75” x 33.6” x 24.6” Purpose: Residential kitchen appliance used for standard household dishwashing.
On August 6, 2026, at approximately 3:30 AM, our LG 24” Top Control Smart Built-In Dishwasher (Model: LDT7808SS) catastrophically failed and caught fire in our kitchen. The smoke alarms sounded, which woke my family up. The local fire department responded to our 911 call (Incident #[REDACTED]), confirmed the dishwasher was actively on fire, extinguished it, and physically removed the unit from the residence to prevent the fire from spreading further.
The fire melted the appliance’s internal electrical components and wiring, charred the surrounding kitchen cabinetry, and caused significant smoke and soot damage throughout the house, which is currently requiring tens of thousands of dollars in professional fire mitigation and environmental cleanup.
The product was installed in a standard residential kitchen and was being used for normal, everyday household dishwashing.
Fortunately, no one in my family was physically injured. However, because this occurred in the middle of the night while we were asleep, this appliance defect could have easily resulted in fatal smoke inhalation or a catastrophic structural fire had the smoke alarms not alerted us in time. I am reporting this because the catastrophic failure of this product’s electrical components presents a severe fire hazard and an imminent threat to the safety of other consumers.

No one hurt Made Aug 1, 2026, sent to the company Aug 6, 2026, published by CPSC Aug 20, 2026
The product, in the report: LG Dishwasher, Stainless Steel front
My wife contacted me while I was away from the house and said there was smoke coming out around the dishwasher. I instructed her to turn it off and go to the breaker box and turn off the circuit breaker. When I returned home I removed the dishwasher from the cabinet space and initiated a turbo wash to see if I could determine where the problem was. There was an electronic burnt smell. They we saw visible smoke coming from under the dishwasher followed by visible flame. We turned the unit off and I proceeded to disconnect everything and move the dishwasher to the porch, out of the house.

No one hurt Made May 26, 2026, sent to the company Jun 1, 2026, published by CPSC Jun 15, 2026
The product, in the report: Product Name: LG Built-In Dishwasher Model Number: LDPN454HT Serial Number: 504KWDJ1F666 Color: Stainless Steel Size/Dimensions: Standard 24-inch residential built-in dishwasher (Approx. 24” W x 33.6” H x 24.6” D). Product Description & Purpose: An electric major home appliance used for washing and sanitizing residential dishware. The unit features an interior stainless steel tub and electronic top control panel.
I am reporting an LG Dishwasher (Case TCC# [REDACTED]) with a severe manufacturing defect that causes internal flooding and subsequent microbial/mold growth inside the kitchen cabinetry cavity, posing a direct indoor air quality and health hazard to my household.
The appliance was being used normally in a residential home for routine dishwashing. While operating, the unit began actively leaking from the bottom components into the surrounding wooden structure. An independent mold specialist inspected the area and formally confirmed active microbial growth stemming directly from the dishwasher leak.
While no physical impact injuries occurred, potential health risks related to mold exposure and compromised indoor air quality are actively present. The manufacturer has agreed to cover the initial mold inspection costs (acknowledging the hazard exists), but is now refusing to issue a Return Authorization to remove the defective appliance or fund the necessary environmental remediation to eliminate the mold hazard. The manufacturer is effectively demanding that a verified safety and biological hazard remain active in a residential kitchen.
Report Update 6/9/26: The manufacturer has successfully retrieved the defective unit, provided a full product refund, and covered the associated property remediation costs.

No one hurt Made May 13, 2026, sent to the company May 28, 2026, published by CPSC Jun 11, 2026
The product, in the report: Product: LG Dishwasher Model: LDF5545ST Serial Number: 701KWRE8E702 Manufacturer: LG Electronics USA, Inc. Category: Dishwasher Rack Coating Defect / Rust Contamination
Product: LG Dishwasher Model: LDF5545ST Serial Number: 701KWRE8E702 Manufacturer: LG Electronics USA, Inc. Category: Dishwasher Rack Coating Defect / Rust Contamination
DESCRIPTION OF PROBLEM:
The vinyl protective coating on both the upper and lower dish racks of my LG dishwasher (Model LDF5545ST) has deteriorated and peeled away, exposing the bare metal tines underneath. The exposed metal tines are actively rusting. During normal wash and dry cycles, rust residue transfers directly onto dishes, glassware, cups, and utensils used for food and beverages.
This presents a health and safety concern. Rust particles and iron oxide residue are being deposited on surfaces that come into direct contact with food. Consumers should not be required to inspect every dish after washing to determine whether rust contamination has occurred. The rack coating was designed to prevent this exact scenario, and its premature failure creates a hazard that LG has declined to address.
INJURY OR HARM:
No physical injury has occurred to date. However, the ongoing exposure of eating and drinking surfaces to rust residue from deteriorating rack tines poses a risk of ingesting iron oxide particles and other rust contaminants. This is a consumer safety concern that warrants manufacturer accountability.
STEPS TAKEN:
On May 12, 2026, I contacted LG’s Office of the President via email ([REDACTED]) and by telephone. LG assigned Case Reference [REDACTED]. LG’s management reviewed the case and denied a goodwill replacement for the racks, stating they are covered only for 2 years from the date of purchase. I have sent a formal Notice of Dispute via certified mail to LG’s headquarters at 1000 Sylvan Avenue, Englewood Cliffs, NJ 07632.
This issue is widely reported among LG dishwasher owners across multiple model lines. The rack coating failure appears to be a systemic material defect rather than an isolated incident.
DESIRED OUTCOME:
I am requesting that the CPSC investigate the prevalence of rack coating failures in LG dishwashers and determine whether a safety recall or consumer advisory is warranted. At a minimum, LG should be required to provide replacement racks to affected consumers at no cost.

The product, in the report: LG Dishwasher with third rack in black stainless steel
Approximately a year and a half after purchase, my LG Dishwasher LDFN4542D began emitting smoke during normal operation (with the door closed) along with a noticeable burning smell. My husband turned the dishwasher off and then back on, and it again began smoking with the same burning smell. This issue was reported to LG Electronics, and I was later informed that an investigation had been conducted. However, the dishwasher was never inspected or examined. Months later, I was told the conclusion was that no safety issue had been identified. Due to the risk of fire, the dishwasher has not been used since the incident. Given that this exact model is still being sold, I am requesting that this incident be formally documented as a potential safety concern and reviewed accordingly.

The product, in the report: under the counter dishwasher
(Approx. 8/15/2024): The consumer turned the dishwasher on one evening, as they usually do.
The next day, she found the dishwasher had stopped mid-cycle. The dishwasher’s tub had water in it, the soap dispenser was open and there was no power to the dishwasher.
She called the manufacturer, but was told the technician was several hours away and it would cost $300 for a service visit.
The consumer then contacted a local service technician, who said the product was not worth repairing and suggested they purchase another dishwasher.
The consumer purchased a new dishwasher and when the old one was removed, they found that the dishwasher’s wiring in the junction box was burned. This is a part that holds the dishwasher’s internal wires in a combined location.
The consumer wrote a letter to the manufacturer about this matter, but never received a response.
She also sent a letter to the dealer, and they responded immediately, but said there was nothing that they could do. However, the dealer indicated that they would inform the manufacturer about this matter.

Hurt, no treatment Made Jan 29, 2024, sent to the company Feb 1, 2024, published by CPSC Feb 15, 2024
The product, in the report: LG dishwasher
LG dishwasher. Regular wash was setup and started smelling something burning in the house and traced it back to the dishwasher. Fortunately, was around to trip the appliance from causing further damage. The control board was still fuming until LG repair service came in to fix it. When repair service arrived and opened the appliance to fix, it was found the entire motor was burnt
UPDATED ON 2/23/2024: [On January 15, while the dishwasher was in operation, I noticed a burning smell emanating in the house. Upon further inspection, it became evident that the motor of the dishwasher had burned.
I took immediate action and contacted the authorized LG customer support channel through ThinQ from whom I purchased the dishwasher. They confirmed the error on device relates to motor and due to safety concern the dishwasher has to be unplugged immediately and dispatched a technician to assess and repair the issue. A repair request was filed as “Safety concerns” and the document number is as follows [REDACTED]
A technician arrived on scheduled time and confirmed in person that the motor had indeed burned and required replacement. This incident poses a serious safety concern and has rendered the dishwasher inoperable. It took them a month of replacing multiple parts for motor, and boards inside the unit. The list of parts is as follows.
Part Name • Dishwasher Electronic Control Board • CASE ASSEMBL • Dishwasher Drain Pump • HARNESS,MULT Part Number • #EBR86473413 • #ABQ75742504 • #ABT72989206 • #EAD63647038 LG has performed the repair or replacement of the dishwasher motor at no additional cost even though the unit was out of warranty.
As a consumer, I am deeply disappointed by the malfunction of this appliance, especially considering its relatively short lifespan. The unit has been installed in October of 2021. I would like to claim against the comment that this report is false by providing more information on the repair service done by authorized dealer and want the comment removed.
The product needs to be recalled since the burn smell lingered around the house for hours each time the technician opened the unit. This could have lead to lead/ carbon monoxide poisoning if I have not noticed the dishwasher malfunction promptly.
I am available for further communication and cooperation as needed.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.

The product, in the report: Under the counter dishwasher
6/14/2022: The dishwasher began to emit smoke and a burning odor, while it was in use. It had been in operation for approximately 1 hour. The consumer’s husband opened the door and hit the power button to stop it.
None of the dishes were damaged, but there was a burning, hot, electrical odor and smoke emitted from the right side of the unit.
6/15/2022: The consumer called the firm’s corporate office today, but could not get a live person. She left a voice message. She also called the firm’s customer service number, but was not able to speak with a live representative.
The consumer checked the Internet and saw numerous reports on-line, related to this firm’s dishwasher and some of the sites, indicated that people’s homes had burned down.
Based on this information, the consumer does not want the product in her home and intends to have it replaced.
Lastly, she found that there was a dishwasher class action suit with this manufacturer’s model, and she is considering joining that suit. The class action lawsuit pertains to control panel shutting off. Our dishwasher incident is not within guidelines of that class action lawsuit.
Report Update: 6/28/22 – Have left msg for Kevin’s Appliance Repair [REDACTED] to schedule appointment for technician to come inspect our dishwasher to see why it was smoking w/ hot electrical smell. Checking to see if our motor malfunctioned. Kevin’s Appliance Repair was given to us as a recommended service provided in our area (by LG.) (From the LG Repair Liaison Team) Awaiting to hear back from LG service center to schedule appt. 6/29/22 – Received call from Kevin’s Appliance Repair. Scheduled service call for Friday, July 1st. Will call 6/30 and let us know what time. 6/30/22 – My husband, [REDACTED], remembered he saw an error code appear on the control panel “LE”: – motor failure. We will provide documentation from Kevin’s Appliance Repair once the service call is completed.
The service repairman ([REDACTED]) from Kevin’s Appliance Repair came this morning. The invoice/receipt is attached with his diagnosis. He mentioned the error code LE – Motor, and the wiring was melted. He mentioned other LG dishwashers having this same issue.
We told him we have contacted LG with no response, and that we opened up a complaint/report with the CPSC. LG must be aware this is an issue, but why haven’t they issued a safety bulletin or a safety recall? This is a safety issue resulting in loss/damages of people’s homes and eventually could lead to loss of life. How many people load up their dishwasher and go to bed??
I also wanted to let you know if you search “LG dishwasher catching fire” - [REDACTED] appears and it shows many people reporting issues with LG dishwashers catching on fire! Look at the dates! LG has to be aware of this safety issue. There is a notice of recall in Australia (June 2008). June 2009 [REDACTED] reported issues with error code LE with LG dishwasher circulation motor damage.
We sincerely believe this needs to be thoroughly investigated and a safety recall issued to prevent future loss/damages to people’s homes and possibly prevent loss of life.

LG’s 2 year old dishwasher nearly burned my house down then they quietly closed 6 cases I opened with 6 representatives to discuss the matter along with the damage their dangerous equipment caused. On the 6th attempt, I asked the representative if it was normal for the previous 5 cases to automatically be closed without any communications, she confirmed it was very odd and she never saw that happen before (all calls were recorded). Additionally, both racks rusted through after 2 years of use. LG agreed to send replacement racks since it was under warranty but they were never delivered. The LG dishwasher also created water damage under the counter, which resulted in a 6’ crack under the counter.
The root cause was the result of extremely poor engineering by LG. 1) Poorly designed seal which didn’t use common design engineering knowledge 2) an extremely poorly designed latch design, which places a hole in the latch an inch away from the poorly designed seal. The major safety hazard here is that the hole in the latch provides a direct path to the electrical switches in the door latch assembly. These issues are further discussed below.
I originally provided LG with a video showing how their dishwasher shorted and burned at the LG dishwasher door latch switch. I discovered the melted door latch assembly and exposed shorted wires because the dishwasher smelled like it was burning. They clearly have design and quality issues. The risk is too high to ever consider an LG appliance again. I also have a 6 month old LG refrigerator and the compressor is occasionally making loud noises... more quality issues with another LG appliance. I also had the [REDACTED] for two years. It was a horrible [REDACTED]. [REDACTED]provided infrequent updates. So glad I returned to [REDACTED]... anyways...
Here is the video showing the charred and melted door latch after it nearly burned my house down. I also included a second video to diagnose the issue, since there was no longer power to the unit.
[REDACTED]
I bought their control board (potted PCBA) for about $200 and a door latch assembly with the correct switches. After installing the new board and latch assembly, I learned that the dishwasher seal suffered from excessive compression set due to a poor mechanical design by LG. Compression set is when the rubber remains compressed and doesn’t return to it’s original shape. This typically occurs when rubber is compressed at more than 50%. The problem can be easily avoided by limiting seal compression to a maximum of 50%. This is basic design engineering knowledge but apparently, LG failed with that very trivial design requirement.
In addition to a poorly designed seal, it turns out that my house almost burned down because of a really, really bad LG latch design where the latch opening created direct access to the electrical switches. This is a major safety hazard because the seal preventing water from leaking is about an inch away from the switches; this creates a direct path from the seal to the switches. Water was leaking through the top of the seal and directly through the latch assembly and into the switches. The distance from the seal to the switches is about 1 inch so if it leaks, it can cause a fire. The same issue was going to happen again if I continued using the dishwasher. At this point, it’s clear there is a safety hazard. I will likely start connecting with class action law firms to take further action, since LG continues to quietly close all cases I opened to discuss the matter.
It is incredibly alarming that LG would learn of this information and choose to quietly silent my cases. It seems like LG doesn’t care about the safety of their customers since they have not responded to my very troubling concerns.
I’m sure this will elicit a canned response from LG and a request to settle it privately. However, it is troubling that they wouldn’t want to make this issue well-known and have a safety recall. My house almost burned down and they quietly closed 6 cases I opened. LG’s behavior is beyond unethical. It’s also beyond negligent. It seems like it approaches criminal. I can only imagine what other safety hazards they are covering up.
There are so many horrible reviews and stories from so many people about LG. I had a bad experience with them last year, which led to me buying another refrigerator after less than 2 years of having the new refrigerator... which also has problems. At this point, maybe I should notify the major retailers of the need to have a safety recall. They may not care about their customers, but they will care about the cost and brand issues associated with a major safety recall... especially when they tried covering it up.

The product, in the report: LG dishwasher. Model LD57551ST. 212KWCF52811 serial number.
LG LD57551ST dishwasher purchased in 2013. Normal use. Dishwasher was mid-cycle. Fortunately spouse was home. Smelled very strong electrical fire odor. Quickly went throughout house to smell out the source. Found it in the kitchen where the dishwasher was venting. Stopped dishwasher and opened to see if anything was stuck or burning. Because this dishwasher does not have an exposed heating element she was confident it was not a melted utensil nor did it smell like burning plastic. The odor was stronger and smelled more serious. Researched the problem and found multiple reports of other consumer with burned wires and circuit boards at the top right of the dishwasher front panel; one consumer said they called the fire department to extinguish. Our did not catch fire but who knows if it would have if someone was not home to stop the cycle and unplug the appliance. Followed instructions to remove inside panel of the door and found the same problem. Wire harnesses with melted protective coating, brittleness around wire connection to circuit board, and severe darkening around the area on the control board. Too extensive to just replace a control board without having to replace multiple wire harness assembly parts as well. Contacted LG service on their [REDACTED] social media channel to report problem. No response.

The product, in the report: LG dishwasher (model LDF6810ST)
Re: LG Dishwasher Fire
On March 3, 2019, during a dishwashing cycle, our LG dishwasher (model LDF6810ST) started a fire that filled our home with smoke and could have caused extensive harm to life and property had we not been nearby. The dishwasher began popping, and smoke poured out of it in larger and larger amounts. Fortunately, I was in the kitchen at the time, and my wife was nearby. We were able to quickly use our fire extinguisher to extinguish the electrical fire inside the dishwasher door. By that time, our house had filled with smoke and we had to open many windows and doors fully to clear it out. By the time we put out the fire, we could not safely breath in our home.
This situation was frightening, and could have had terrible consequences for our home, ourselves, and our pet. We were able to minimize the property damage by acting quickly, but the experience was shocking.
I emailed LG the details above on March 4, 2019. I then called LG on or about March 5, 2019, and asked to speak with their executive office for complaints given the seriousness of the product failure. At my suggestion, the individual I spoke with in LG’s executive office scheduled an inspection of the dishwasher at our home. She also told me that someone from LG’s product team would be contacting me to discuss the incident. She also offered me 15% off a new LG dishwasher. I rejected this offer out of hand, which I felt was offensive and inappropriate under the circumstances.
The inspection occurred on March 8, 2019. An LG inspector came to our home and inspected the dishwasher. He confirmed that the cause of the fire was that the electrical circuits in the door to the dishwasher had started an electrical fire. Although the individual I spoke with in LG’s executive office promised that someone on LG’s product team would contact me after the inspection, LG never contacted me to compensate us for our losses, or even to understand more about the fire caused by LG’s product, a product defect that could threaten the lives and property of other LG consumers.
The inspector failed to remove (or even unplug) the dishwasher. Therefore, when several days ago we turned the the circuit breaker for the power to the dishwasher back on, the product again began to smoke and smelled like an electrical fire. We had to race to turn off the breaker to avoid a second fire. Why would a company leave an unsafe product in a home after inspecting it, rather than removing it? This additional failing of LG’s product-safety compliance program is unfortunately emblematic of LG’s overall failure to take this matter seriously (including their failure to contact me to gather more information about the fire after I twice put them on notice of the incident--by email and in the above-described phone call with LG’s executive office).
I request that you investigate this matter and inform me of the action you take as a result of your investigation. Other consumers need to be aware of the risk of this product. I also ask that you request that LG contact me to discuss this matter, as they promised me they would do (but never did). I do not understand why a company whose product caused a fire in a residence would not contact the consumer to, at a minimum, gather more information and cover the consumer’s losses (which are small compared to the damage to life and property that could have resulted). It seems reckless not to do so. For this reason, I also believe the CPSC should investigate whether LG’s product-safety compliance program is sufficiently robust to protect their consumers.

I had an electrician come over to disconnect it after the fire department left and he checked the connection at the wall and it was fine, the fire originated in the dishwasher as a result of normal use of the dishwasher.

The product, in the report: LG Dishwasher
Our LG Dishwasher, Model LDS4821ST Serial number 012KWCF02515 caught fire after it’s control board burned out.
We notified LG and they could care less.
From what we have found on the web, this is a common occurrence and even some house fires have resulted. Also, an LG factory authorized repair service located on the LG web site told us, this is a common problem.
We think the dishwashers should be recalled and replaced.

The product, in the report: LG Dishwasher.
Fire in LG dishwasher (Mdl: LDS5811ST/02). My wife smelled smoke, then saw smoke coming from the closed door of the dishwasher. Dishwasher was turned off at the time and not in use. She put out the fire with a fire extinguisher, then turned off the breaker to the unit. The kitchen, dining room and living room were filled with smoke. If this had happened at night when everyone was asleep this fire could have resulted in the loss of our home and possibly loss of life.
I called LG and spoke to [REDACTED], who would not give her full name, but instead gave her number, [REDACTED]. She told me that there was nothing she could do because the dishwasher was out of warranty. I suggested to her that LG should want to know the cause of the fire, as there were other instances of LG dishwasher fires reported online here: http://www.complaintsboard.com/complaints/lg-dishwasher-c472065.html
[REDACTED] further suggested that I call a repairman. She stated that she had never heard of an LG dishwasher spontaneously catching fire. I am very concerned about the lack of concern expressed by LG to what could have been a potentially tragic incident.

The product, in the report: LG dishwasher 23-7/8” x 25” x 33-7/8” weight 52 Kg
I have had 2 electrical shorts in my LG dishwasher. Both shorts occurred in the door panel wiring. First short was due to a gumming black insulation material that stretched the wires causing them to short out on the door. The second short occurred in the door again, at the bottm of the unit where it tucks up under the dishwasher.m On this occurrence it burned through 2 wires and melted an additional 2 more. One wire was completed burned in half, a second had the insulation completely burned off and 2 others were charred. You could actually hear the wires shorting against the door so I flipped the breaker and pulled the front door panel off and found the shorted wires.

LG model LDS5811BB/01 about 6 or 7 years old. I loaded the dishwasher started it and was in the living room when i heard a weird noise from the dishwasher. I went to the kitchen and very black smoke that smelled like burning plastic and rubber was poring from the door of the dishwasher. I quickly stooped the dishwasher and unplugged it. The entire inside where the wiring and circut board is in the door had melted insulation and black residue on it and some residue on the outside and on and some on my wood cabinet trim. We would have been asleeep in the house and it couldve burnt my house down if I wasnt there to stop it. Their company did nothing to accknowlege the incident since it was out of warranty. My family couldve been injured or killed due to their product.

The product, in the report: Dishwasher. LG model LDS5811
During normal use, the dishwasher had a strong smell similar to electrical burning. The smell got progressively worse as it continued the cycle. I opened the front panel and removed the main circuit board. I noticed that the main power to the board (I think it was a doc source, but not sure) had burned and a dark tar like substance was covering the board. The wire and plastic wire clip was very brittle unlike the other connecting wires.

The product, in the report: Built in dishwasher.
LG LDF8072 dishwasher emits toxic organic volatile compounds as a result of asphalt-like material heating up and gassing off during the wash cycle. LG uses this material to dampen the noise. This material covers most of the drum from the outside. Based on reviews online, LG used this material on older models and a complaint on Consumer Reports web site dates back more than 2 years. Symptoms: noxiousness, headache, vertigo. Long term harm: neurological damage, carcinogenesis, teratogenesis. http://www.amazon.com/gp/cdp/member-reviews/A8YPGUJ6B5D7F/ref=cm_cr_pr_auth_rev?ie=UTF8&sort_by=MostRecentReview

The product, in the report: Dishwasher
LG Dishwasher Model: LDS5811ST Electrical short Two years ago, our dishwasher ceased functioning, indicating that it had a failed pump motor. I replaced the motor, only to discover that I still had the error code. After researching the problem on the internet, I was directed to check the wiring inside the front door panel. To my shock I discovered several wires that had seperated, exposing the insulation, and one wire had seperated entirely. This was caused by inadequte wire lengths, and lack of proper wire guides. The wires had become embeded in the some sort of soft black insulation, and had no give to them at all. To repair the problem, I soldered in wire extensions, and the dishwasher went back to working properly. A few months later the problem resurfaced, and this time you received a mild shock if you came in contact with the metal face of the dishwasher. Again, more wires had seperated and were contacting each other, and the metal face of the dishwasher. Again I repaired the affected wires. The next time this problem occurred, we noticed a burning smell. Again, more wires had seperated (not any of the wires that had been previously repaired), and this time a short ensued. I again repaired the wires, along with any that looked like they were coming apart or had inadequate slack in them. Today we again have the same problem. This unit is a hazard. From researching on the internet, LG seems to have little interest in fixing design flaws in their product..

Broken wires in wiring harness of LG Dishwasher model LDS5811WW purchased in 2006. On six different occasions wires in the harness have broken behind the door panel resulting in various failures of the electrical system. repeated attempts have been made to LG for resolution but none has been made. There is evidence in the door panel insulation of slight burning caused by the broken wires.

My husband started the diahwasher and then went to pick up our daughter from an appointment, when he got back our dishwasher was on fire. If he would of gotten home 10 minutes later we would of lost our kitchen or worse the house! When we called LG and told them what happened they could of cared less! They told us it wasn’t there problem anynore. The part that started the fire had been replaced four times in four years, it was obviously a problem. We think they should of recalled the dishwasher instead of trying to just keep fixing an existing problem. We will never buy nor recomend LG products to anyone we know there customer service is pretty much non existant once you’ve bought something from them. Very disheartened

The product, in the report: LG dishwasher model # LDS5811ST Ser# 711KWGG00095 stainless steel dishwasher UL listed appliance
while doing dishes we noticed a “hot” electrical smell in kitchen. i am a disabled firefighter and investigator so i am quite familiar with this. i narrowed the smell down to the dishwasher. i cut power to the unit immediately. let it cool, pulled it out from under countertop. after a few minutes i restarted the dishwasher to see if this had “reset’ or resolved the issue. now about one minute into the cycle, i saw smoke starting to emit from the control panel located at the top right on the front of the dishwasher! I immediately killed power again and we have left the machine off now since that event. i called the HOme depot where we purchased the machine a couple years ago, and they siad that they will not service the unit it is out of their warranty. I then called the manufacuterer to inform them of this life safety issue. they siad that this appliance is out of their one year warranty and they will not repair or replace this unit! I was astounded that this machine may be the cause of a fatal fire someday somewhere and they do not care to research this product to see if there is something that they can do!

The consumer says the unit has leaked since he purchased product. He called a repairman who told him the valve pump unit is defective. He says that the underflooring of his kitchen is now damaged. The leak had gotten on a junction box in his basement which poses a shock hazard. The consumer contacted the manufacturer and sent them the defective pump. They refused to test it because the bracket was removed and said that he tampered with it. He noticed many reports about the same issue on complaint boards online. The manufacturer also acknowledged that there have been complaints. He says that the unit works fine with a third party pump installed on it.

I have an LG dishwasher...model # LDF6810WW..serial # 611KWFN00195 My dishwasher recently started kicking out error code “LE”. I looked on the internet and found dozens of postings where people had repoted this problem was due to broken or melted wires in the wiring harness. Sure enough, I took the front panel off my dishwasher and there 3 melted wires, 2 of which were completely broken. I contacted LG (case # CNM110512048057) and asked if there was a recall since this seemed to be a safety issue. I was told that there was no recall and the repair was not covered under warranty. They said they were aware of the issue and that the authorized repair people could fix the problem. I hope that this wiring issue has not resulted in any fires or injuries to others. I have an authorized repairman coming tomorrow to fix the issue with my appliance. Thanks [redacted]
