The product, in the report: GE (General Electric) Dishwasher Model #: PDW8980N00SS SER #: SM834045B

GE Dishwasher (Model #: PDW8980N00SS, SER #: SM834045B) malfunctioned almost causing a fire. The GE Dishwasher was left turned off with unit in the closed position, and we awoke in the middle of the night to something burning. We discovered the unit filled with smoke and it had melted all of the plastic material inside including the rack, basket, lower mechanisms, and a few baby food ware items. It had also damaged the houses electrical. After speaking with the electrician he informed me that the GE Dishwasher/heating element had malfunctioned and that it would have continually heated until a possible fire or until burning all of the electrical. We also had a GE Service Technician inspect the Dishwasher and he also determined that heating element had failed, which was likely due to a faulty circuit board. When I asked if there was a recall for this GE Dishwasher (Model #: PDW8980N00SS) he said no, and also said that he couldn’t say if one was needed because he would potentially get in trouble/lose his job if he told me that this was a serious issue. This really concerns me not only for the safety of my family but also for the safety of other families that may have this model GE Dishwasher in their home.

I truly believe that a recall is need for this model GE Dishwasher (Model #: PDW8980N00SS), and after speaking with GE’s customer service Representatives and Managers they seemed to not care for the safety of the consumers. I urge you and your team to investigate this issue and if needed I will be happy to offer any further assistance that might be needed.
