The product, in the report: Dishwasher
To Whom It May Concern,
I am submitting a product safety hazard report regarding a GE Appliances dishwasher that presents a potential fire risk.
The estimated date the first melting plastic smell occurrence was approximately June 4, 2024. The pieces protecting the arms started falling off less than a year after purchasing in March of 2023.
The dishwasher’s lower spray arm assembly has failed during normal household use. Small metal spray tip components detached and fell onto the heating element, causing melting and deformation of the spray arm. The heating element shows signs of burn residue from contact with these components.
This condition creates a serious safety concern, including risk of fire, overheating, and potential exposure to fumes from melted materials. While no injuries have occurred, individuals in the household were at risk due to the nature of the failure.
The appliance is less than three years old and has been used under normal conditions. Replacement parts for the spray arm appear to no longer be available, preventing safe repair.
Photos of the damaged components and heating element are available and can be provided. Additional documentation and video evidence are also available upon request.

The product, in the report: PURCHASED: 3/9/2024 Brand:GE Model:GDP670SYV0FS Serial #: DZ742796B Product: Dishwasher $178.53 Part# WD28X30220 UPPER RACK ASSEMBLY
I PURCHASED A GE DISHWASHER ON 3/9/2025 and the upper rack (there are 3 racks total) has a grey coating on the rack itself and it is peeling off and expanding in size on the rack and leeching what looks like rust. I am concerned that this happened within the 1 yr warranty period but was not noticed until 5/16/2025. GE said it was “cosmetic” however I disagree and am worried about what chemical we were exposed to and what the root cause is and is that rusty colored stuff contaminating the water supply and us? I submitted complaint to GE Customer Care/ Consumer Relations and was given Case# [REDACTED]. Ge dishwasher Model:GDP670SYV0FS Serial #: DZ742796B / Original Part# WD28X30220 UPPER RACK ASSEMBLY . They offered a 50% discount to replace it and I dont think they are understanding the part is defective and that the coating is exploding and leeching whatever that coating is all into the dishwasher and water supply. I sent pic on 5/16/25 and again today 5/23/2025. I spoke to [REDACTED] today and raised my concerns again and she is sending me a new rack that has a new part #WD28X35782 which I am hoping is not the same coating. They need to be investigated bc if they changed the part # I definitely am not the only one complaining.

The product, in the report: GE portable dishwasher, color is black. I have included a picture of the tag on the dishwasher below.
My wife was washing a load of dishes in the dishwasher when I walked in and seen smoke coming out of the side and back of the dishwasher. We immediately unplugged it and over several minutes the smoke dissipated.

The product, in the report: GE Dishwasher
The plastic wheel assembly on the rack of a GE dishwasher came off and subsequently melted around the heating element during a washing and drying cycle (run overnight), this caused significant fumes (plastic burning smell) throughout the house. The wheel assemblies of this model snap onto the undercarriage frame of the lower dishwasher rack and are not more securely fastened (screwed on). A previous service visit was needed to correct one of the wheels (front left) continually coming off during loading unloading of the machine. One wheel assembly was replaced. Consider this an environmental safety hazard with respect to the household atmospheric pollution at a minimum. The product appears to carry a design fault in that the wheel assemblies appear to detach very easily and this can result in the wheel assembly melting against the heating element.

The product, in the report: GE ENERGY STAR Top Control with Stainless Steel Interior Dishwasher https://www.geappliances.com/shop?search_query=GDT670SYV0FS#/q:GDT670SYV
The wheel assembly on the front lower left rack of my GE dishwasher continually falls off. While just a nuisance at this point, other consumers have reported other, more serious results. The manufacturer uses this part on multiple models, and the same part is used in all four corners of the lower rack. Only the front left is susceptible to this problem. This part is used on multiple models and for several years. Nothing has been done to improve the safety/quality of this product. [REDACTED]

The product, in the report: GE dishwasher
Last evening 24 June 2018 my dishwasher started to smoke apparently from the door. There was a strong smell of burning plastic. I checked on the GE website to see if this model had been recalled and it had been. This morning I called the GE recall hotline 866-918-8760. I waited from 930 to1015 am on hold till an agent picked up. One of my concerns was, since I had registered this dishwasher with them and had a service contract, why didn’t they notify me? The agent said they had in 2012 and I had responded and it had been taken care of. I asked why then did it start to smoke? The answer was we’re in “phase 2”. What does this mean? Wait till it catches fire and I call? I can’t spend another 45 minutes on hold with GE for clarification. I am hoping you can help. At least others may be spared a potential fire in their homes. I also think that a 45 minute wait on hold suggests a lack of seriousness on GE’s part. The agent was very polite and helpful except for the “phase 2” thing. Perhaps I misunderstood. My [REDACTED]. My diswasher model number is GLD6760N10SS, serial number TM731998B.
