My Fagor Dishwasher (model LFA-86XL) had a heating element that shorted and caught fire. This has has happened twice. The first time it happened (in the first year of ownership), Fagor’s warranty covered a repair. It happened again recently. Both occurrences happened with normal use of the dishwasher.

The product, in the report: commercial dishwasher Fagor-(FI-120 w). model 1210307285 UPC -845033012473

I am the Director for [REDACTED] Head Start Program. We purchased a dishwasher (FI-120w) for our program from Fagor Commercial. We received the dishwasher in April 2010. The installer came and would not install the unit because it was “manufactured poorly and unsafe to use”. He stated that mounts were missing in the motor and water could come into contact with the electricity. We sent back the first dishwasher and Fagor replaced the unit in June 2010. We had the new unit installed on June 24. In November of 2010 the dishwasher shocked our cook. We contacted Fagor who had a Service provider from [REDACTED] come out to resolve the issue. The technician said the element had gone out and the unit was unsafe. He recommended returning it. I contacted Fagor Commercial in order to return the dishwasher. They have refused to return it stating that we have not allowed them the chance to fix the machine. I told them that we did allow their technician to come fix the machine and they said it was unsafe. In February, after much debate, I faxed over the invoices and a statements from [REDACTED], the service provider, as requested. I did not receive any further correspondence from Fagor Commercial for two months. I once again contacted Fagor in May and [REDACTED] the service manager that had requested the documents said he received the invoices, but not the statement stating that the machine was unsafe and should be returned. He said he would contact [REDACTED] for the information he needs and return my call in two days. This was two weeks ago and I have not heard from him since. I have also contacted[REDACTED] , which is [REDACTED] supervisor, and he has not returned my phone call either. Thank you for your assistance in this matter.

    Sincerely, [REDACTED]
