Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.
Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

No incident, no one hurt Made Aug 4, 2026, sent to the company Aug 18, 2026, published by CPSC Sep 2, 2026
The product, in the report: Amana 24-inch Built-In Dishwasher in Stainless Steel (Manufactured by Whirlpool Corporation). Standard full-size, under-counter residential kitchen dishwasher with front/top control panel.
My Amana dishwasher, Manufacturer Case # [REDACTED], which is a little over a year old and just outside the standard manufacturer warranty, began experiencing spontaneous, uncommanded power on events, cycling and attempting to run completely on its own without any user interaction or button activation, even while the unit door was wide open.
The appliance has been used strictly according to manufacturer guidelines in a standard residential setting, with absolutely no liquid spills, countertop leaks, or water intrusion onto the upper console panel or internal circuit board. The internal user interface or control board suffered a sudden, spontaneous electronic short during normal standby operation, causing the unit to continuously signal for activation independently and bypass safety controls.
Because an uncommanded electronic dishwasher cycle running perpetually presents an overheating and electrical risk, the unit cannot safely remain connected to power. As a result, power to the unit was manually shut off at the main circuit breaker to prevent unattended operation or thermal damage.
This issue was formally reported to the manufacturers Corporate Safety Team under Case # [REDACTED] with Representative [REDACTED]. The Safety Team stated they would only cover the diagnostic fee while requiring me to pay out of pocket for the service and repairs. Despite emphasizing that an uncommanded electrical fault constitutes an active safety hazard that should be fully resolved by the manufacturer, expedited safety service was refused.
Furthermore, instead of dispatching a technician to evaluate the physical unit, the Safety Team only scheduled a phone follow up for a week later (Tuesday the 11th), requiring the appliance to remain completely powered down at the breaker in the meantime.

The product, in the report: Undercounter dishwasher
I am a Fire Dept Battalion Chief reporting a dishwasher appliance fire that was confined to the dishwasher. Fire engines responded to a 911 call reporting a dishwasher on fire. Upon arrival, the first fire engine found the residence filled with smoke and the front of the dishwasher on fire. The fire was extinguished without incident or injury. Upon investigation, the fire appeared to start inside the front door near the circuit board. The appliance did not have a rated appliance pigtail wired into the power supply and the residence had old style edison type plug fuses... one which was blown.
