The product, in the report: Safety Can Express. Electric can opener

Using my “safety can express” can opener which I purchased 6 months ago. The small 12 oz can of enchilada sauce would barely open...when the lid did come off.... it left sharp splintes of tin around the edge. I ended up with two in my fingers. But as I was pouring the sauce into my caserole, I noticed the can had SEVERAL more fine splinters around the edge! I tossed the whole caserole in the trash.

It works on some cans, but leaves sharp needle like shards protruding from the can’s edge on others. This product is unsafe and should be taken off the market. These shards are very sharp and up to 1/2 inch long.

The product, in the report: So-called safety electric can opener.

I bought an electric can opener called Safe Can Express from a local drug store. Upon using it, I discovered that it leaves metal shards and flakes in the food. This is so dangerous! I contacted the company, Bulb Head, and their attitude was, “Well, if you don’t like it, take it back to the store.” I looked up reviews online on this product, and there are many that say the same thing, it puts metal shavings into your food. Please look into this! Before someone gets hurt.

The product, in the report: Safety Can Express; can opener, black Model A401

I purchased a Safety Can Express from Bulbhead this summer and it arrived in August. This is a can opener that purports to safely open cans without sharp edges and allows users to reuse the lid to cover the product afterwards. On the surface it sounds like a great product. I installed the product in my kitchen and opened less than 10 cans before it no longer could open a can. If that was all that was wrong, I would not be filing this report. Unfortunately the can opener now creates about 5 mm long metal shavings that are sticking out of the can like barbs. They fall back into the food that the can opens and fall on the counter. A few of these metal shavings stuck in my fingers like splinters causing them to bleed. I had to remove the shavings and provide first aid on my hand. These injuries occurred in the normal and customary use of the product. The occurred due to a defect in the opening cutter that no longer retains the position necessary to safely open the can.

Not only is the product defective and does not perform as advertised, it is dangerous to consumers.

The consumer called the manufacturer and their rep. (name unknown) told him there was a 30 day warranty on the product. If he did not return it within 30 days, there was nothing they could do for him. Nothing else transpired.

10/19/2021: His 2nd identical can jammed, while he was opening it. There was no injury, but he believes it present a safety issue as well.

The product, in the report: Electric can opener

Caller is reporting that the Can opener is unsafe because it does not auto stop it keeps going and produces metal shavings in the content. She stated that the commercial did not provide that information to consumers. Caller stated that she will be returning it to the store. The manufacturer was not contacted. Caller feels that these can openers should be taken off the shelves due to the hazard it poses.

What I said in my report is this safety can is so dangerous should be taken off the shelves.

Can does not stop turning when can is opened, it goes around more than one time causes metal shavings and are supposed to listen for change in motor to know has gone around one time. Hearing impaired cannot hear this. Dangerous for Seniors or anyone with hearing difficulties. Very unsafe product.
