The product, in the report: Its an electric can opener, a Cuisinart CCO-50BKN Deluxe Electric Can Opener, black
My Cuisinart CCO-50BKN Deluxe Electric Can Opener, shot electrical sparks out on the counter after I moved it.
UPDATED ON 7/3/2025: [In response to this reply I received after filing my report, in order to elaborate on what the risk of harm was, is that If I was in physical contact of the metal pieces of the can opener and completed the circuit with my hand, I would have burned my hand at the very least, and If one hand was on the metal, while any other part of my body was touching something that was connected to ground, I would have 15 AMPs of current passing through my Heart, which would kill me instantly. Luckily I didn’t touch the metal on the can opener so all that happened was I was startled when the sparks came out, which missed me or anything flammable.
It’s also entirely possible that a short like this could have caused a fire, in which the house would be destroyed killing the occupants. ]

The product, in the report: Cuisinart stainless electric can opener
Can opener: this info was sent to Cuisinart twice This is dangerous situation that is occurring with opening a can and have slivers of the metal from can in the food and on the magnet of opener. The first can was [REDACTED] butter beans, I actually kept feeling something in my mouth and remove tiny slivers of can metal. We thought maybe this was something with the can? I kept watching every time I used it. March 25, 2021 I opened starkist tuna and on the magnet again the sliver of metal, I threw the tuna away and took pictures of magnet. I still have magnet with metal on it. Perhaps a recall on this opener may be needed. This opener is not right and could cause someone harm. [REDACTED]

The product, in the report: Cuisinart Stainless Steel Can Opener model SCO-60 (BN)
I have twice found curved slivers of metal in my food after using the Cuisinart Stainless Steel Can Opener Model SCO-60 (BN). Once was from a can of food (either beans or green chili that I had added to soup), the other was in a can of coffee. Both slivers were about 3/4 inch long and blue-tinged. This opener is less than 3 months old and I bought it at Bed, Bath and Beyond. From the beginning, I was worried because it always leaves a very curved, rough edge on the lid. The edge on the can itself seems clean. I did not think to save the slivers. No one was injured. However, I would definitely have been seriously injured had I not spotted the sliver before ingesting it.

No one hurt Made Apr 11, 2018, sent to the company Jul 2, 2018, published by CPSC Jul 17, 2018
The product, in the report: Electric Can Opener
The consumer indicates that he used his electric can opened to open a can. When the can opener had rotated three-hundred sixty degrees and was at the starting point, it shaved off a piece of metal into the can. The consumer used the can opened once again to determine if the incident was a one-time matter however it was not as the same thing happened with the second can he opened. The consumer believes this poses a safety hazard as the piece of metal that falls into the can be ingested without the knowledge of a person eating, and causing serious internal injury to them.
The consumer contacted the Manufacturer and explained the situation. The representative he spoke with informed him that they had received complaints for the same model electric can opened however not of the nature he described.
The consumer states that he used the electric can opener twice.
The consumer plans on returning the unit for a refund.

Hurt, no treatment Made Mar 22, 2018, sent to the company Jun 21, 2018, published by CPSC Jul 6, 2018
The product, in the report: Cuisinart Power Cut Series Can Opener - Model CCO-50N - White
Bought Cuisinart Power Cut Series Can Opener; Model CCO-50N at Macy’s Herald Square., Manhattan, NY store in November 2017.
I am 70 years old, Mom is 88yesrs old and we can’t see very well. I kept noticing something like dust on top of the plastic ledge under the blade mechanism. I thought it was the paper ground up from the cans.
But one day I noticed big carved out pieces in the actual can and little pieces of this dust material and realized the dust was metal cut from the cans.
This machine is a danger because you are getting metal fragments from the cans into your food. The can opener chops up the sides of the cans you are opening and turns it into tiny metal fragments.
