How badly anyone was hurt

As each report says it, in short words; CPSC’s own words are under each.

The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

  1. No one hurt

Made Jun 25, 2021, sent to the company Jun 29, 2021, published by CPSC Jul 14, 2021

The product, in the report: The product is a 3020 GS casement window by Value Windows. “GS” is the series name. It is designed to be installed in a 3-foot wide by 4-foot tall rough opening.

Casement windows were installed in our new home. They are Value Windows (https://www.valuewindowsdoors.com/windows/casement-windows/). We were given instructions verbally for cleaning the exterior of the windows. They are 20 feet above the ground.

When we attempting to follow the instructions, the window sash fell out of the window. I was able to catch it before it fell to the ground, but I had to summon help to put it back into its frame.

Had I not caught the window, it would have fallen to the ground and might have severely injured or killed anyone below. If a less-strong person had been attempting the cleaning (such as my 82-year-old wife), they might have fallen along with the window when attempting to save the window. It is much too heavy for her. Such a fall would certainly have cause extreme injury and possible death.

I will emphasize that we were following the cleaning instructions provided by our contractor. An extremely dangerous situation resulted. No one should be attempting to clean the outside of these windows from the inside.

Note that this location is my future home address and is under construction now.
