The product, in the report: casement windows
(12/25/2002) The consumer stated that the first window exploded suddenly. It sounded like a bullet had gone into the window. The consumer stated that glass shards flew about ten to twelve feet into the room.
The consumer stated that later seven more windows exploded, sporadically.
There were no injures.
The consumer contacted the firm. Representatives were sent out to investigate. The company agreed to replace the windows but did not advise the consumer of the cause. The company sent two replacement windows to be installed but found out that the replacements were defective.
Eventually, one sample window was placed in the home. No other windows have been installed.
The sample window was delivered incomplete, without a screw or bars.
The consumer is still trying to find out why the windows in her home are exploding. The company will not give the consumer any information.
We are updating Report No. [REDACTED]. Eight windows exploded; one window cracked; other windows ‘pop’ from internal pressure changes. These defects can cause personal injury.
Kolbe & Kolbe Millwork was aware their windows were manufactured with defects (defective sealants), but shipped the windows anyway, without disclosing known defects and exploding hazard. Kolbe & Kolbe Millwork continually ?hanges warranty, without disclosing defects.
[REDACTED], Vice President of Quality, Service & ServicePro at Kolbe & Kolbe Millwork Co.,Inc. stated he had personal knowledge, and Kolbe & Kolbe Millwork had knowledge of exploding window hazard and defects. However, Kolbe & Kolbe did not disclose these known defects to us prior to our purchase of Kolbe windows.
Kolbe & Kolbe Millwork was deceptive -we would not have purchased Kolbe windows if Kolbe & Kolbe Millwork disclosed these known defects.
Incident date: 12/25/2002 Including several year time span.
