The product, in the report: JELD-WEN Window inside panes
Window inside panes are shattering in the cold weather. Six windows have shattered over the past 6 years. One 6 years ago which was warrantied, 2 last year with no resolution, and 4 within the past 2 weeks. JELO-WEN requires product info and will email questions until you can no longer provide the correct information. Requests for a company representative to examine the damaged windows gets denied repeatedly. When the first damaged window was replaced several years ago, the technician explained that the glass was no within specifications, and they would remedy any other windows that might implode. The fix for several other windows was to drill a small hole in the inside pane glass to relieve any out of spec glass deflection, then seal the hole. I was told glass replacement was not an option. Emails get dragged on, and when an attempt was made to contact the representative by phone, you get placed in the queue to leave a voice mail. A price break for replacement windows would be a nice gesture from JELD-WEN, however if nothing else, there should be a consumer safety alert issued for these windows due to the violent nature of the failure, and potential for personal injury (lacerations).

The product, in the report: Jeld-Wen windows manufactured by Summit WIndows
My home was built with Summit windows, since acquired by Jeld-Wen. The balances on the windows, which keep the windows from falling, continue to fail. Jeld-Wen replaced some of the units, and their repairman has since indicated that they no longer make these units due to a history of failures. I am fearful of the heavy window falling on me or on a child, as when the units fail, the windows fall with no resistance, potentially hurting or killing persons near the windows. Jeld-Wen is asking me to pay for the replacement of these units, though they appear to me to be quite defective and dangerous.
