The product, in the report: Builders First Source Series 9810 & 9820 Single Hung Vinyl Frame Double Glaze LOE366 (0.022). Sizes of windows vary.
We purchased a new Ashton Woods home in New Braunfels, TX six years ago. The windows that were installed are Builders First Source Windows Seriew 9810 Single Hung Vinyl Frame Double Glaze LOE366. Last December one of the southeast facing windows reflected the sunlight and caught our lawn on fire. We covered the window with black plastic trash bag. A couple of months later, we removed the bag and the burnt area started smoldering. We recovered the window. Yesterday, we saw that other southeast facing windows were emitting high heat and have turned the grass brown where the reflection was projected onto the grass. We contacted Ashton Woods and they said the windows were out of warranty. We are afraid that the windows are going to cause another fire. We have seen articles on the dangers of Low-E Double Pane Windows causing fires and siding to melt. We feel that consumers need to know about this potential hazard and be educated on the types of windows that should be installed in homes to prevent this problem from happening.
UPDATED ON 10/24/2023: [Attached is a photo of the burned lawn from the sunlight reflection off of the window. This burn was not caused by the lights along the walkway. The firemen who came declared that the fire started from the sunlight reflection off of the window. Also, attached are two short doorbell videos of the [REDACTED] delivery person ringing our door bell and the fireman coming to check out the burned lawn.]
