No one hurt Made Nov 16, 2022, sent to the company Dec 6, 2022, published by CPSC Dec 28, 2022
The product, in the report: 3 Andersen Storm Doors. The front door (custom built by Andersen), the side door (standard size) and lastly the back door (custom built by Andersend). the 3 labels for each door will be uploaded.
We had purchased 3 Andersen Storm Doors from Home Depot at their Bethel Park, PA Location in June of 2022. The initial install was on August 17, 2022. Which one of the 3 doors was missing parts (specially the closer mechanism up and down on our front door). We contacted Home Depot and had chase down their installers, [REDACTED] for close to 3 weeks. HD refused to get in touch with their contracted installers and put it on myself as the Customer of Home Depot alone to track done improper installs, even though HD was the one contracted, as both the Supplier and Contractor. Once back out Sept 6, 2022. Once they were out and HD Assistant Manager told me they took parts out of a box for another order to do provide the parts sooner, the next day we had the back Storm Door closer snapped off the frame and brought the entire door slamming shut almost hitting my 3 yr old and 1.5 yr old. We also discovered that my 1.5 year old is able to remove the pins from the door itself on the bottom closer. I have repeatdly taken videos and pictures, all of which Home Depot made no effort to see or concerns of this major design flaw. I even had to track their store manager [REDACTED] down since he was only working 2 days in the past almost 4 months to date. Both [REDACTED] response to me, when I asked him for Andersen Doors and Window email for their Rep. due to the severity of this, and literally taking him to the door section and showing him the small metal pins that my 1.5 yr old was pulling out and could swallow and die wasn “ well your child shouldn’t be playing with the door” and it was “in my opinion” that it was unsafe. He has avoided any resolution or responsibility. He has tasked me with tracking HD Installers [REDACTED] with [REDACTED]. [REDACTED] chain of contact was kept sinc ehe never completed ever a proper install on any of the doors, and potentially due to his improper installs caused the deadly damage. I have files of all emails between HD, [REDACTED], including call logs, texts, pictures and videos. Home Depot has refused to acknowledge this and Andersen Doors and Windows legal is involved were kept in the dark of the severity, and have records to prove. They have also indicated from what we expressed to them and what was conveyed to me from HD (Documented in the email chains) that [REDACTED] or Home Depot may be skimming since the doors did not show up in their boxes and that Home Depot had parts missing and admitted they took parts out of another order to fix the initial mistake. Doing this could result in the amount of issues in the doors, deadly design flaws/install. [REDACTED] cannot be trusted and given the documentation I think the CPSC will see my enormous concerns are valid. A child will end up dead from this and I do not want to see this. Both companies have handled this severe situation in the most grotesque way. At this point I do not feel safe having [REDACTED] from [REDACTED] in my home or that they are capable of installing already manufacturer custom doors, given his rising aggression and HD refuses to acknowledge the deadly situation at hand.
