The product, in the report: Casement Window Opening Control Device Part Number: 9051542 Andersen Window
For my toddler I researched window protections for the second floor of my home. This research led me to the Andersen Window website that offered as a child safety device the window opening controls for the casement windows in my home. https://parts.andersenwindows.com/LearningCenter_WindowSafety.html https://parts.andersenwindows.com/detail_9051542__w_safe.html
I ordered these items for all my casement windows upstairs. Unfortunately, as soon as they were installed my child was immediately able to depress the button for the device that releases the window limits. This button is another safety device to allow an adult to quickly open the window completely to escape through the window during an emergency. Sadly, this safety feature creates a situation where the child safety feature is now removed. A child that pushes this button and successfully releases the limit will now be able to open the window and fall out.
I immediately called the president of the company’s office to tell them about this problem and the potentially devastating consequence. Another “executive” returned my call but concluded that he was unable to help me because the company was required to have the release safety button. I believe that a parent unaware of how easy it is for a child, mine is 17 moths old, could override this window limit and be seriously hurt or killed.
