The product, in the report: The product is a double leaf vehicle gate. Each leaf weighing approximately 200lbs. Hinge attachment was designed using a rivnut and I believe a 10mm bolt.
We experienced a failed hinge on a pre-fabricated steel vehicle gate. The gate was being installed and had not received any use or force when the rivnuts became dislodged from the post and the gate dropped to the ground on the leading edge. Clearance at this locations was about 2”. Had the gate been fully open the clearance would have been more than 18” and would have resulted in complete dislodgement and likely injury and or death. The fastening component of the gates are designed with a rivnut. This product is installed like a rivet and provides a point of attachment via a bolt for the hinges. The rivnut was not designed for this thick of post. Additionally, I was unable to find any engineering calculations for rivnuts.
