The product, in the report: USG Sheetrock All-Purpose Joint Compound Batch #60001610. 6/2/25
Product Name: USG Sheetrock Brand All-Purpose Joint Compound Manufacturer: United States Gypsum Company (USG) Description of Hazard: “Severe chemical irritation and ocular distress caused by wet-state off-gassing. Product is marketed as safe/non-toxic for interior use, but upon application, it released airborne irritants that caused immediate eye burning, swelling, and itching in an occupant. The irritant was strong enough to contaminate and ruin prescription contact lenses. The reaction persisted as long as the product was drying, despite ventilation. This poses a significant health risk to consumers with chemical sensitivities who rely on ‘non-toxic’ labeling for interior home repair products.” Injuries: Type: Chemical irritation / Allergic-type reaction. Body Part: Eyes / Respiratory. Medical Property Loss: $100 in prescription contact lenses.
