The product, in the report: Exit device “98/99 Series Push Pads” (https://www.vonduprin.com/en/products/exit-devices/98-99-series.html) and door handle “996 Exit Trim” (https://www.vonduprin.com/en/products/trim/996-trim.html). Both are silvery with a finish listed as “Bright Chrome” on the box they were delivered in. The push pad is about 3 ft long in its entirety, and the exit trim is about 1 ft long with a rounded handle rather than the flattened one shown on the website.
I work for the Georgia Department of Public Health. During a childhood lead poisoning investigation at a daycare on July 13th, 20th, and 30th, 2026, I found that the shiny, end pieces of these Von Duprin crash bars and the entire visible surface of the door handles tested positive for lead on X-ray fluorescence analysis, with readings ranging from 4.6 mg/cm^2 to 7.8 mg/cm^2. When the daycare ordered brand new versions of the same model of this set, I tested those with the same XRF device and found that they also tested positive for lead on the same parts. These components are used in a daycare on the door between the playground and the indoor hallway. The main users are the staff of the daycare and the children. There is one known childhood lead poisoning case associated with this daycare, but it’s unclear how much this product contributed to their poisoning.
