  1. No one hurt

Made Feb 10, 2015, sent to the company Mar 13, 2015, published by CPSC Mar 27, 2015

The product, in the report: 2 slide lock; The consumer found the following “1926052H1” and 10012014” on the packaging above the barcode.

On 02/10/15 the submitter opened the package and installed one lock on the cabinet door which is underneath the kitchen sink. The submitter put the other lock on the pantry door. The submitter saw her granddaughter pull on the cabinet door and saw the lock fall apart. Once the lock broke the cabinet door opened.

This was the first time the submitter purchased this item. The submitter believes these locks are faulty and are a safety hazard. The locks failing could put a child in harms way.

The product, in the report: 2 pack of white cabinet slide locks, each lock containing 2 pieces Babies R Us Slide Lock, 2 Pack, UPC on package: 717851260520, http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=12066915, (From website: “R”Web#: 098269 SKU: 7C936C31 UPC/EAN/ISBN: 717851260520 Manufacturer #: 1926052H12)

I bought two packs of cabinet slide locks, each of which contained two locks. I opened both packs and discovered one lock in each pack didn’t work/lock at all. I decided to give the others a try, but as I was opening one of the locks, I caught my skin in the plastic teeth. I returned both packs to the store for a refund. If I got a blood blister while correctly using the product, I can’t imagine what it would do to little fingers playing with it or attempting to open it.

The product, in the report: Each easy-to-install plastic lock in this Especially for Baby Drawer Lock 12-Pack, a Babies ‘R’ Us exclusive, helps keep children out of cabinets and drawers. The one-finger-press latch allows you to open them with ease. Screws are included. Assembly required. Total weight: 4.8 oz.

These are suppose to the safety door and cabinet latches but they are not very safe for babies. My 9 month old was able to squeeze the latches open within hours after installation. I have since checked the reviews on the Babies R US website and there are multiple complaints under the reviews with other having the same issue.

The product, in the report: Cabinet & Drawer Latches

Babies R Us Brand -Cabinet & Drawer Latches

Design of latches is faulty and does not provide sufficient protection from young child opening drawers and cabinets. When installed correctly a drawer can be opened with a swift tug, easily applied by a toddler. When examining the product and installation, the falt is with the catch not being long enough to account for deformation in the plastic latch. Most importantly, in real applications the Babies R Us brand cabinet & drawer locks do not provide intended protection.
