The product, in the report: Morningstar Moso bamboo flooring from Lumber Liquidators
We purchased Morningstar Moso bamboo flooring from Lumber Liquidators in December 2014 and had it installed with one of their recommended installers. The cost was about $10,000. We recently had our air quality tested because of some unexplained health issues with myself and my children. The formaldehyde level on our second floor and on the steps (where the flooring is installed) was 0.13 ppm. The air quality expert said that was well above the 0.05ppm max that is recommended in residences. In order to see if it was the flooring that was causing the increase, he took the meter to the garage, which was measuring 0 ppm. We then took an extra board that was in the garage and placed the meter next to it. The meter was immediately registering 0.12 ppm with just one board. I contacted Lumber Liquidators since this is their brand of bamboo and was told that they are being investigated for their laminate flooring, but not the bamboo. It also states on their website that they don’t have any safety standards that they need to follow for bamboo. The only recommendations that the air quality expert could give us (since we live in Florida & won’t be able to keep the windows open for very long in the summer), is to buy a $1200 IQAir Multigas air purifier or remove the flooring. We have decided to remove the flooring since there is no guarantee that the purifier will work and it is not a permanent solution. The bamboo flooring from this company needs to be tested and this Lumber Liquidators needs to be held responsible.

No one hurt Made Mar 16, 2015, sent to the company Mar 23, 2015, published by CPSC Apr 13, 2015
The product, in the report: All of my common areas have bamboo flooring. The specific bamboo flooring I had installed is a private label brand sold exclusively through Lumber Liquidators
On March 1st the CBS TV show “60 Minutes” did a special on Lumber Liquidators and how they are misrepresenting the safety of their flooring. The tests revealed the formaldehyde levels emitted from their flooring exceed the industry standard and standards set by many states. After seeing the story I hired a company to come to my home and test the air quality both VOC and Formaldehyde levels. On March 3rd 2015 Sunland Environmental Testing came to my home and spent over two hours taking air samples within the home. On March 10th 2015 the test results that were sent out to a certified and accredited lab determined the Formaldehyde levels are elevated at 83ng/L (66ppb). The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) has set a recommended exposure limit (REL) of 20 ng/L (16 parts per billion). Having two young daughters at home and knowing the side effects from formaldehyde exposure I am extremely concerned with the safety of having these floors in my home.
