The product, in the report: Lauzon RO05D8TBPV, Ambiance Collection Tempo Engineered Red Oak, Color :Adagio 5 3/16”w, Pure Genius
On July 19, 2024 Lauzon Engineered Flooring was installed in one bedroom of our residence. Since the installation, my mother and I began to experience health problems upon exposure to the flooring which included: head numbness, headaches, tightness in the chest, nausea to the point of wanting to vomit and diarrhea. We reported our health reactions due to the flooring to our installer whom we purchased the floor from and requested that he remove the floor asap. He in turn contacted Lauzon and reported our symptoms to them. Lauzon vehemently denied any responsibility for their flooring being the cause of our reactions. They said there are more chemicals, including formaldehyde, in our 21-year-old plywood subfloor than in their product. They said their product makes our home healthier than being without it. The installer/store owner told us that he was more convinced than ever, after the phone conversation with Lauzon, that he made the right choice of installing Lauzon flooring in his home, too, because Lauzon was so adamant about how pure their product was. In fact, the flooring has a finish on it that Lauzon named Pure Genius that they claim passively cleans the air, reducing VOCs, including formaldehyde. They advertise that having the flooring in a residence is the equivalent of having 3 trees in your house. Yes, they actually advertise that. We both agreed that, that was reason we both purchased their flooring- their advertised claims of purity. Their published technical data states that the formaldehyde level is Below Limit of Quantitation of 0.008ppm. Lauzon never asked to speak to me, they never asked for a sample of the floor, they rejected giving us a refund, they never followed up on the status of our floor. Convinced by Lauzon, that the flooring wasnt the problem, our installer offered to seal the floor in food grade plastic so that it would give us time to figure out what was causing our symptoms. We agreed to having it sealed but we also contacted a professional abatement company. On September 9, 2024 a controlled abatement was done. Still having reactions when exposed to the room, we hired a Scientific Hygienist to do a comprehensive test on the box of original flooring that was left over from the installation. On November 6, 2024 we received the 34 page test results with 3 offending substances found: 1) Acetone 2) Methyl Acetate 3) Formaldehyde. The worst offender being FORMALDEHYDE at 18PPM! My household was exposed to this dangerously high carcinogen. It has greatly impacted our family on many levels. It has adversely affected our health, our quality of life, our finances and our personal propertytoo lengthy to discuss here. We are still living with the impact. We trusted Lauzon, we believed their advertising, we wanted to protect our family from the array of toxic chemicals flooding the consumer goods market. We just wanted healthy flooring.
