The product, in the report: Cement board containing crystalline silica, calcium silicate, calcium carbonate, calcium alluminum silicate, cellulose, carbon black.
Lowe’s home improvement was contracted to install a tile floor in our kitchen. The installer used Hardie Backer board for underlayment. The board was cut using an electric grinder saw in an enclosed space (attached garage with door closed). Resulting dust was spread from garage to family room, kitchen, sitting room, dining room, upstairs bath and bedrooms, and basement via installer movement through house. MSDS indicates dust is danerous when inhalled for both short term and long term problems. Homeowner experienced triggered asthma on day one. Health dept notified after initial cleaning did not resolve symptoms and symptoms persisted for 1 week. Health dept advised homeowners to leave premises. Lowe’s notified of hazard, has taken no action to resolve problem of contaminated residence. Lowe’s advised home owner to contact installer’s insurance.
