  1. No incident, no one hurt

Made Nov 26, 2022, sent to the company Nov 30, 2022, published by CPSC Dec 14, 2022

The product, in the report: Sylvania Stay Lit Platinum 2 sets of 50 LED C9 lights sold at the bellingham costco, UPC 8 83624 44048 9 ITEM/ART 2006150

I was putting up brand new christmas lights out of the box from Costco (Sylvania stay lit platinum 2 sets of 50 - UPC 8 83624 44048 9) and I noticed the second string would not light. so I pulled apart the plug but the whole plug came apart - and the one end that now was partially exposed (that was still plugged in) was in my hand). fortunately I did NOT get zapped but I easily could have since it was alittle wet out and I was trying to look closely/mess with the plug until I realized it was still plugged in. I thought it was just nothing but the second box I had had the same damage on the upper cord in the box. It appears that whoever packaged these (factory sealed box) did not fully assemble the plugs in shipping and when they were in transport there must have been weight on the box and it was enough to jack-knife the plug so that the male side damaged the female side. The first box - that came apart was damaged more than the second box. Note that I continued to try to use the second set out of each box but even the male side of the second set will not work so I think the male side may have some damage somehow too but I can’t see it. Bottom line - First box - first set in the box could have shocked me (maybe not super likely but it still could have), second set does not work. Second box - first set had similar (but less) damage to the female plug end, second set worked ok, but I am taking them back at this point because I don’t want them. Note - I did not apply any force to these plugs and I did not step on anything. This came out of the box damaged. I have photos. I suspect there are alot more like this at costco and believe it is likely someone could get injured because the female end came just come right apart due to damage. - if it was sitting as mine was in the box.

To be clear: I did NOT get injured . I did not touch the bare copper copper because it is sort of protected even when apart, but your mind doesn’t exactly go to the string being plugged in when you are testing it and the thing totally comes apart in your hand.
