  1. No one hurt

Made Apr 15, 2024, sent to the company Apr 26, 2024, published by CPSC May 10, 2024

The product, in the report: Products are designed to look like fire extinguishers, and are labeled as “gender reveal fire extinguisher color blasters”. The canisters are red or white, with black handles, and are indistinguishable from real fire extinguishers to inexpert eyes. Several different companies are marketing the same concept. Examples: Chameleon Colors: https://chameleoncolors.com/products/gender-reveal-color-blasters-1 [REDACTED]

Gender reveal fire extinguishers are being used at parties to extinguish a sparkler or candle. The contents are highly flammable (corn starch and dye) but this is not indicated anywhere on the product. Further, the product is labeled as a “fire extinguisher” and it is not noted anywhere that it could be dangerous to expose the contents to open flame. The product is used by pregnant couples around open flames, indoors, in crowded rooms. The resulting fireballs are a great hazard to the safety of everyone in the building. Injury or death from burns and smoke inhalation is an all-too-real possibility from using these products in this way.

Videos of these incidents are becoming viral on social media. See, for example, [REDACTED] In these videos, screaming can often be heard and people are standing or sitting in the path of the fireballs resulting from using this product.
