No incident, no one hurt Made May 15, 2021, sent to the company May 19, 2021, published by CPSC Jun 3, 2021
The product, in the report: Christmas Tree - 9ft Hayden Pine Pre Lit Traditional Artificial Christmas Tree with 1450 Constant White Clear Incandescent Lights, Item #848166, Model #TG90P5373C00 purchased at Lowes on sale at $249 (50%) sale. Model TG90P53C00 UPC 192072506457
The plug on Christmas tree purchased in Lowe’s in 2019 and used in 2020 overheats when plugged in. I tried to resolve this issue with the company. They sent replacement branch that was dirty and also with faulty lights. They fail to care about the issue to resolve it properly. The cords that overheats is the main cord that is plugged in directly to the outlet and supplies power to all the lights on the tree. Without this, none of the lights can be enjoyed on the tree. After a lot of back and forth emails with polygroup, there is still no solution and many households can be at risk from this plug that overheats! Polygroup does not seem to truly care about this issue. They did not find a good solution and had no shame sending a replacement branch that had faulty lights and was dirty- looked like a return as well. Since the step on and off special addition to the cord is used to turn the lights on and off, many households may not be aware that the plug that is plugged in to the outlet overheats and is hazard risk. I only found out when I directed my teen to unplug the tree and he could not unplug it becuase it was so hot. I immediately turned the power off to the outlet and told him not to use the lights, which is a bit difficult to understand for a teen who was looking forward to having all the lights on during the Christmas season, especially during the pandemic. The tree was used in 2019, but the overheating was discovered in 2020.
