No incident, no one hurt Made Feb 27, 2025, sent to the company Mar 5, 2025, published by CPSC Mar 19, 2025
The product, in the report: Scripto Premium Torch
I purchased a Scripto Premium Torch from Walmart and found that it lacks a child safety mechanism. The safety lock on the torch is merely a trigger lock, which does not automatically reset and is a true child safety lock. Despite this, the torch is marketed exclusively as a multi-purpose lighter, with packaging and Walmart’s website promoting it for cooking, crafting, toasting, and more. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has explicitly stated that such torches cannot be marketed as multi-purpose lighters under Federal Regulation 16 CFR 1212. Selling non-child-resistant torches as multi-purpose lighters is illegal.

The product, in the report: Green Scripto wand lighter
This is an update for report [REDACTED] after I learned it was [REDACTED] a Scripto lighter. I could not find a place to modify my original. However, I would like to rescind the initial report and create a new one for Scripto which I believe is a Calico Brands product.
I was using a wand lighter from Scripto to light a burner on an outdoor grill. I set the lighter down on the shelf next to the grill thinking it wouldn’t be hot enough because I was able to grab stainless handles that were even closer to the grill. A few minutes later, the lighter exploded and burned my hand and forearm. I have several blisters on my knuckles and very bad pain from the burning butane. The lighter parts when in different directions with one piece landing 15 feet away.

The product, in the report: Scripto TorchFlame lighter as part of a 4 lighter kit
Scripto Torchflame lighter purchased 9/3/20 at Costco as part of a 4 lighter kit. Gas would not shut off after second use. Luckily flame was out and I was outdoors. Have seen another similar post online, except it still had a flame and was inside a car. Dangerous!

Hurt, no treatment Made Sep 15, 2018, sent to the company Sep 24, 2018, published by CPSC Oct 9, 2018
The product, in the report: Handheld gas lighter for grills. Lighter has extended barrel to light confined locations.
Scripto Aim n Flame
While using lighter, the flame stayed on after releasing and setting lighter down. Flame came in contact with items on table causing fire. Prior to this it was difficult to get mechanism to light. After using the final time, apparently lighter was stuck on with no flame, causing all fuel to be released.

No one hurt Made May 18, 2017, sent to the company Jul 21, 2017, published by CPSC Aug 4, 2017
The product, in the report: Scripto Wind Resistant Utility Lighter. Part of it is clear so you can see fuel inside. It is a long lighter with a trigger used to light grills.
A couple of days ago I used a Scripto Wind Resistant utility lighter to try to light the fire pit on my back patio. When I pressed the trigger a ball of flames shot out the back of the lighter almost burning my hand and arm. Luckily I threw the lighter to the ground before it burned me or my clothes. I bought the lighter about nine months ago and do not have the original packaging and I don’t know where we bought it. It has an F08 code stamped on the warning label. I kept the lighter in case someone wants to look at it. I emailed the Scripto parent company about this incident two days ago and they have not responded.
