The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

The product, in the report: Propane Torch

Propane Torch hose failed. I posted to Harbor Freight on their site: “FATAL INCIDENT POTENTIAL - The Propane Torch, Item #91033, S.N. 361441753 suffered a hose separation from the tank connection fitting. This separation allowed propane to escape with the potential of severely burning me. Luckily, as soon as the fitting failed, I tossed the hose and hot wand away from the tank to prevent ignition. I have photos and will gladly share them with you or the Consumer Protection Agency. Please correct this manufacturing error before someone is killed or severely injured. Thanks for your time. [REDACTED]”

I followed up with and email : “One of your SKU 91033 Propane Torches had a malfunction that could possibly cause severe injury or death. The hose separated from the tank connector because the hose was not crimped properly to that connector. I took every precaution to ensure that the hose was never subjected to strain nor had the hose been damaged in any way. When the hose separated from the connector, I was sprayed with liquid propane gas. I immediately tossed the hose and wand away from me and turned off the gas. This could have been fatal had I turned around with the hose and hot wand in my hand. The particulars are in the email below. I have attached photos of the unit.”

There was no leakage from the fitting before the failure. I had no warning that the fitting would separate. That separation was instantaneous.

Harbor Freight has been less than willing to respond that they are investigating and correcting a manufacturing issue. This failure is documented on Harbor Freight’s reviews of the product at least twice. [REDACTED]

Harbor Freight has been unresponsive in ensuring that they are correcting this manufacturing error. I’m trying to prevent a serious injury or death.
