Made May 7, 2026, sent to the company May 12, 2026, published by CPSC May 27, 2026

The product, in the report: The product is a Blink Mini torch lighter, characterized by a bright orange plastic body. The brand name “Blink” is printed clearly on the side of the casing. This specific model features a safety lid/cap that covers the ignition point where the flame is produced.

The Blink Mini torch lighter spontaneously exploded while stored in a pocket. The entire bottom of the torch blew off, causing a sudden release of pressurized butane fuel which ignited. This resulted in a fire and chemical/thermal burns without the trigger ever being pulled.

The product, in the report: Torch Lighter

The consumer indicates that she went to the passenger seat of her vehicle to light a cigarette with a torch lighter that was inside of her purse. The consumer placed the lighter back in her purse and walked to her house for one minute when her neighbour ran to her house informing her that her vehicle was smoking. The consumer ran outside and initially thought the smoke was coming from her opened trunk because it was full of cleaning supplies and cables so she began removing these. While trying to find the source in her trunk she looked up and saw smoke and flames coming from the passenger seat; she ran over and saw the door melted as well as other parts of her vehicle. The consumer immediately realized that the source of the fire was the torch lighter she had placed in her purse a mere two minutes prior so she quickly removed the purse with some towels and tossed it in a ditch. The consumer was able to put the fire out the door. Most of the torch lighter had melted as well as a wallet in her purse, and there was also extensive smoke damage to her vehicle and fire damage. The consumer states that the unit was used approximately twenty times. The consumer plans on keeping the torch lighter for at least the next thirty days incase an investigation ensues.

I would definitely like to be reimbursed for the value of my car. I will never be able to sell my car due to the excessive smoke damage as well as the damage throughout.
