The product, in the report: Smarte Carte Luggage Cart available for rental at airport
On November 7, 2011 a Smarte Carte caused me to fall at the Baltimore Washington International Airport (BWI). I placed my small canvas carry-on bag (9’’ by 9” by 14’’) in the basket provided since the supports on the lower level were spaced too far apart to hold it. As I started to push the cart, the cart started to fall towards me and I tried to prevent it from falling. Instead the weight of the cart pushed me down and I struck my face with great force on the cart handle. My bruised face worsened in appearance over the week of my stay. When I returned to California, I saw my doctor on November 17th and he ordered facial x-rays. I had developed a hematoma in my cheek, but fortunately the x-rays showed no broken bones. I also had bruises on my right arm and knee.
I believe my fall was due to a design flaw in this Smarte Carte which caused it to be top heavy if anything was placed in the upper basket without luggage below.
