First aid Made Jul 30, 2024, sent to the company Aug 2, 2024, published by CPSC Aug 16, 2024
The product, in the report: Jot Pencil Sharpener, Jot Electric Pencil Sharpener Size: 3.74 x 1.57 x 2.95 inches Sold by: Dollar Tree Color: I think it was Blue, but might have been the Green (Sea-green) Description: It is a battery-operated pencil sharpener to take to school. The product’s packaging is a white sticker label.
I bought a mechanical portable pencil sharpener from Dollar Tree. I put brand new batteries in it. I sharpened one pencil from dull to sharp. Then the unit became very hot. And when I re-opened the battery compartment, the cover of one of the batteries had burst and there was liquid! I believe the unit short-circuited. My fingers came in contact with the battery liquid and I called Cal Poison hotline for advice and rinsed for the time they recommended. I returned the unit back to the store in a labeled freezer-zip-lock bag and told the manager what happened. This is a sharpener being sold for students going back to school.
