  1. Emergency room

Made Jan 21, 2026, sent to the company Jan 26, 2026, published by CPSC Feb 20, 2026

The product, in the report: Neon (Product Name); Adjustable Flame Lighter; 3-pack lighter

The lighter was purchased at the Save-A-Lot store located on [REDACTED] Road in Cincinnati, Ohio. Although my client no longer has the original receipt, she is in the process of locating the SKU number printed on the back of the packaging and will supplement this notice accordingly. On the first use of the lighter, it malfunctioned and ignited abnormally, causing burns to Ms. [REDACTED] arm and setting fire to the drivers seat of her vehicle. This incident resulted in both physical injury and property damage. My client has retained the subject lighter, the two unused lighters from the same package, the packaging materials, and the damaged vehicle seat to preserve all relevant evidence. The incident occured in my vehicle.

The product, in the report: Green see-thru Neon Brand disposable lighter

Neon Brand disposable lighter exploded in my hand during use. I was slightly injured but not sure how to proceed. The lighter exploded during use, fracturing the plastic containing the pressurized butane and releasing shrapnel after a loud bang. It did not ignite, thank god.

The product, in the report: One of the cheap see through lighters, the color was red.

My husband was using one of the see through colored lighters and was tapping it lightly on the table. He was holding the metal end with his fingers and while tapping exploded in his hand. It did not injured him we believe it was based on the angle and where he was holding it but a portion of the side blew out of the lighter. It was unbelievable and took us both a moment to realize what had just happened. We never found the piece that blew out. This is a serious safety hazard.
