As each report says it, in short words; CPSC’s own words are under each.

The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

  1. No one hurt

Made Dec 29, 2021, sent to the company Feb 22, 2022, published by CPSC Mar 8, 2022

The product, in the report: Disposable lighters (5 pack) + 1 free ITEM# 9624SV

The consumer used the lighter approximately 2 times and on the 3rd time, a high flame shot out of it and nearly burned his face.

Afterwards, the consumer conducted a test on the lighter, over his kitchen sink, and the exact same thing happened (a high flame shot out of it).

He usually sets the lighter so that it has a ¾” flame on it, which is close to the “high” setting, but the flame that shot out was much higher. FLAMES EMITTED FROM WHERE THE METAL TOP MEETS THE PLASTIC. THE FLAME CLOUD WAS SEVERAL SQU. INCHES IN SIZE.

11/23/2021: The consumer contacted the firm and their rep. offered to send him a package to return the lighter and they were willing to send him replacement lighters as well.. The consumer never heard back from the firm, but in light of the safety issue, he expected to hear back from them sooner.

He also tried the other lighters in the package and all but 1 of them, presented the exact same problem (extremely high flame). ACTUALLY, ONLY ONE LIGHTER IN THE PKG HAD THIS FLAW. ONE IS TOO MUCH!

12/23/2021: The consumer followed up with the firm and spoke to [REDACTED], who said she would look into the matter and get back in touch with him.

12/29/2021: The consumer has not heard from the firm, and questions if they are taking this as seriously as they should. FIRM SENT A RETURN PKG FOR THE LIGHTER, BUT NOT UNTIL I’D CONTACTED CPSC. THE REPRESENTATIVE BECAME RUDE, SO I DECIDED TO HANDLE THROUGH CPSC. WAITS FOR THE PKG, AND ON THE PHONE WERE EXCESSIVE.
