The reports, as CPSC published them
Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.
Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

The product, in the report: Crocs Metal Torch Lighter
1. I purchased five (5) Crocs “Metal Torch Lighters” together from Dollar Tree located in Red Oak, TX.
2. I opened and started using one of the lighters the same day of purchase (on about five (5) separate occasions).
3. The next evening, while sitting in my vehicle, I used the same lighter to light a cigar (I clicked the lighter, lit my cigar, released the button, and placed the lighter in an open compartment), assuming the fire from the lighter had dissipated like usual.
4. After I had traveled about two (2) miles, I noticed a burning smell that wasn’t coming from my cigar, which was getting stronger and smelled like plastic burning as well as an electrical fire.
5. It was dark outside, and inside my vehicle, so I pulled over and jumped out of my vehicle to find the source of the alarming smell.
6. I looked in the compartment where I had placed the lighter after using it, and saw a high flame coming from the torch lighter, which had burned a gaping hole through the console’s side, also burning components beyond the hole.
7. I then doused the lighter with my drink to extinguish the fire, and after it went out, I monitored the lighter the rest of the way home.
8. As a result..., the middle console is one unit and can’t be repaired, and will have to be replaced (I have pictures of the damage).
Note: Upon further examination, I noticed the lighter’s clicker was loose and hadn’t disengaged properly after using it.
Furthermore, I opened the other four (4) lighters. I randomly used them for three (3) days (closely monitoring the lighters after each use), and discovered the buttons starting to stick and not disengage properly, keeping the fire lit until it was smothered.
Finally, I stopped using the lighters altogether to avoid another catastrophe.
