I am reporting a dangerous incident involving my Revlon One-Step Volumizer hair dryer brush (Model RVDR5222). While using the device as intended, it suddenly overheated to an extreme level and the barrel became visibly red, appearing as though it was about to catch fire while my hair was wrapped around the brush. This created a serious and immediate safety hazard. I had to unplug the device immediately to prevent injury. This level of overheating is extremely concerning and could have resulted in burns or a fire.

My wife bought a “Revlon ONE-STEP” volumizer on February 8th, 2026 at a Target store in Buffalo NY. My wife had used the product 5 to 8 times prior to the incident I’m reporting. On the morning of February 13, my wife turned on the product, shortly after turning on the product, the upper part of the unit started smoking and the handle became extremely hot. My wife unplugged it immediately. Upon discovering this safety issue, I examined the ground fault protection outlet and found no apparent problem with the outlet.

The product, in the report: Hair dryer

    Hello,

am writing to formally report a serious and extremely dangerous incident involving the hair dryer purchased from your company.

While using the hair dryer under normal conditions, the device suddenly malfunctioned and exploded with visible sparks, immediately igniting a fire. Fortunately, the fire was brought under control before it caused further destruction but left burns and physical injury. However, the incident resulted in significant smoke filling the entire apartment, producing toxic fumes that made breathing difficult and required immediate ventilation of the space. It set up fire alarm.

This was a deeply alarming situation that posed a direct threat to personal safety, health, and property. An electrical appliance intended for everyday household use should never fail in this manner. The severity of this malfunction raises serious concerns regarding the product’s safety, quality control, and compliance with applicable safety standards.

Given the potential consequences of this incident, I am carefully documenting all details, including the condition of the device, the environment, and the impact on the apartment and occupants. I expect this matter to be treated with the utmost urgency and seriousness.

Please advise on the next steps you will be taking to address this issue, including how you intend to investigate the incident and resolve the situation appropriately. I look forward to hearing from you.

The product, in the report: Salon One-Step Hair Dryer and Volumizer in Teal

On the morning of November 11th I was using my Revlon Salon One-Step Hair Dryer and Volumizer in Teal. Approximately three times it “stalled out”. I thought I just must not have it plugged in fully, but then it started sparking and began smoking (while in my hair). I immediately unplugged the unit. It was smoking for about two minutes. I was afraid it was going to go up in flames, so I put it in my sink just in case. It appears to be related to the cord at the bottom of the unit where the cord and the unit meet. After it stopped smoking, I went straight to the phone and called Helen of Troy to report it. The customer service agent seemed less than interested in my issue. I said and I quote, “I am not looking for a replacement, I just want to have you research this and look at my dryer so this does not happen to anyone else.” She said someone would be contacting me. It has now been three full days (evening of the 14th now) and no contact has been made to me. This is not a safe product and the lack of action on Helen of Troy is un-excusable.

I was drying my hair this morning with a Revlon Hair Brush Blow Dryer when suddenly flames started coming out of the bottom of the handle. The flames were considerable in in size and would start to go out and re-ignite several times before there was a loud pop and black debris flew about. The smell following the incident was that of an electrical fire. This was terrifying at the time and I feel very fortunate that my hair or clothing did not catch on fire. I feel strongly that this product should be recalled if there are any other similar incidents as, someone or someone’s home could be severely burned.

On February 3 I was drying my hair with a Revlon 1875W Ceramic/Ionic hairdryer when it emitted a large spark and loud “boom” but did not turn off. I promptly turned the power switch to off, put it down, and after a few minutes carefully unplugged it from the wall socket. There was no smell and no obvious singe mark. When my husband examined the dryer later that evening, he found that the insulation around the power chord wires had split in several places right at the point where the power cord exited the built-in strain relief “boot” on the handle. The wires in one of the two channels of the cord had broken. He said that the dryer in that condition had posed a significant risk of electrocution to me. In the several days before, it had stopped/started or turned off and on spontaneously while I was using it, and we had planned to disassemble it to locate the source of the problem before this happened.

I have since noted that the dryer is NOT [REDACTED] listed, but rather is certified [REDACTED]. I’ve had the dryer for 5-6 years.

I own a Revlon “one-step hair dryer and volumizer.” I bought it from Amazon in August 2020. Because I have my hair washed and blown out at a hair salon most weeks, I’ve used the dryer probably less than 25 times. I have never used it in a bathroom or anywhere near water. Today while using it, the dryer began to spark and smoke. In seconds, my house was filled with an odor like a motor burning.

I wrote to Revlon that I’m not interested in a replacement, but would like information about the 4-year limited Warranty mentioned on the box (but nowhere else). Not one of me messages went through. After reading comments online, I see I’m not the first to have this frightening experience. I urge you to take it off the market.

I was using a hair dryer and when the cord touched anything, it would stop working. For example, if the cord brushed the sink handle or top of faucet, it would stop abruptly, like it was rerouting the electricity to the item the cord touched. This is very dangerous as likely the cord is not properly insulated or grounded.

My Revlon hairdryer model RVDR5034 turned on by itself with the switch in the “off” position. As it was running it was also emitting a strong electrical burning smell. I was in the other room at the time and went to investigate the source of the smell. Finding the hairdryer running, I picked it up and attempted to turn it off with the switch which was ineffective. At this point, the plastic handle surrounding the switch was noticeably hot and soft/flexible from the heat. I was only able to turn the hairdryer off by unplugging it. It seems apparent that the switch failed in a closed position. This is actually the second hairdryer of this model I have owned and the switch in the first one also failed similarly but not in a closed position.

I was using the Revlon One-Step Hair Dryer & Volumizer Hot Air Brush today when the air flow changed from high to low. It started making popping sounds so I set it down and unplugged and it caught fire at the base of the dryer. I blew it out and another flame popped up from the brush area of the dryer. I purchased this last month and it was delivered to my home Jan. 16, 2020, so it’s very new. Wanted to report it, as I’m seeing online reports that these run very hot and others have had this issue or are saying it smoked and set off smoke alarms, etc. Luckily I set it down before it caught fire so was not injured. Thanks and reach out if you have any questions.

I bought this Revlon Turbo hairdryer over the summer for occasional use. Since the weather has cooled off, I dry my hair more often. I have noticed that this dryer gets hot enough to burn, but at first thought I must have just been using it too long. Today, I paid attention to how long I was using the dryer and after only 7 minutes, it started to melt itself and cause a skin burn from the handle of the product. I googled this to see if the product has been recalled and haven’t found a recall, but found numerous reviews that not only has this product melted for other consumers, but has in some instances caused fires. My burn on my hand is not severe enough to seek medical treatment, but I can see how it could.

The unit had apparently been running for 20+ minutes, it was very hot to the touch. I unplugged it and put it outside to cool (and to get the smell out of the house). I noticed later that the switch was still in the off position, even though it was running.

The product, in the report: It is round handled hair dryer -- hot air brush. It has 2 brush attachments and an open air flow attachment. It has 3 settings - low, high and cool.

I purchased a Revlon Hot Air Brush back in September to replace the one that had shorted out. The first dryer made a popping sound and a small spark, and then started smoking at the base of the cord attached to the dryer. I didn’t think much of it at the time, and I liked the dryer so I purchased a replacement on Amazon in September 2017. A few weeks ago I was drying my hair before work, and the dryer again made a really loud popping sound and sparked pretty big and it actually burned both my right wrist and singed the rug on my bathroom floor. I immediately throw the dryer into the bath tub and unplugged it. I waited for it to cool down and took some pictures so I could send it to Revlon. They responded and wanted me to send them the dryer so they could do some testing and try and figure out why it did this. A couple weeks went by and I heard back from them, and they were trying to blame ME for the incident saying that they found hair and lint inside the dryer...which, sure, they probably did, because there is no way to really clean out the bottom of the dryer.

It has been about a month since this happened, and I now have a scar on my arm from this dryer.

After using the dryer, it was turned off, and returned to the cabinet drawer in which it is kept (outlet inside cabinet). About 1-2 minutes later, it could be heard ON at full force. When we opened the drawer, to find it on, smoking heavily from the handle, with visible sparks flying out from the switches in the handle.

I had this blow dryer plugged in but not turned on. It was sitting on the bedroom carpet next to my bed. Yesterday I started to hear an odd popping sound and then smelled smoke. I saw that it was the blow dryer, it sounded like it was going to explode. There were hot embers shooting out of the dryer (which melted my carpet). I grabbed the blow dryer and unplugged it. When I picked it up I got burned by a few of the embers. As soon as I unplugged it a thick white smoke started pouring out from where the switch to turn it on is located. I researched Revlon’s blow dryers and this is a common issue with their products apparently. I notified them via their website of this situation but have not received a reply yet. I do have video of the smoke pouring from the blow dryer.

While using my Revlon Ionic hair dryer - it kept stopping intermittently while drying my hair. This happened for two days. While drying my hair the hair dryer, at the base of the cord, near where I hold the hair dryer, sparked and shot a flame out twice, burning my forearm. I quickly unplugged it and it smelled like horrible burning rubber. We inspected the cord and saw that it had broken at the base of the handle of the hair dryer. You could see through the cord, as it had broken wires internally and could see straight through the cord. Scary.

Last week I went to use it and couldn’t seem to plug it in. I looked at the plug and one of the prongs was completely misplaced and no longer lined up with the other. I looked at the outlet and noticed it had black residue on the same side as the misplaced prong was on. Luckily I unplug it after ever use. Otherwise it could have caused a fire.

I love this product, but I must say, it is a bit un-nerving that the prongs are getting this hot.

I was using my hair dryer which I just purchased about 7-8 months ago & I could smell it burning like I did the pass 2 days, so I figured that maybe I was too close too my hair. Then as I was continuing to blow dry my hair I seen smoke coming from the top of it. It was burning a hole through the top of the hair dryer, I’m so upset cause it could have started a fire or my daughter or granddaughter could have been burned during the use of this blow dryer. It is very unsafe, I reported it to Revlon & they were not interested on putting it on a recall list so they can prevent it from happening again. They need to look into this before something very serious happens. I have pictures of the blow dryer which I emailed them but thy did not seem to care, they think I just want a new hair dryer or a refund, I’m just very concerned about this product.

I purchased a Revlon (Helen of Troy) 1875 Watt Ceramic/Tourmaline/Ionic Hair Blow Dryer about 7 months ago. On March 10, 2017 as I was drying my hair with the unit. A spark came out from where the electrical cord enters the unit and then smoke started pouring out.

Luckily I was able to unplug it before it caught on fire. The filter on the back of the unit is clear and unclogged.

I saw this same exact complaint on your website so there is an issues with these units.

I am disabled and I spent extra for the Revlon name. This is misleading to the consumer that Helen of Troy actually makes these products as I’ve never heard of them and on a limited budget put my trust in the REVLON name that I have known for years.

I would appreciate a response to what is being done about this.

    Thanks,

The consumer then noticed fire and unplugged the blow dryer from the wall. The consumer noticed burn damages on the cord where it connects to the handle.

The consumer looked through the owner’s manual and found the firm’s warranty department number. He called the firm (800-487-7273) and he got a recording that stated their customer service is temporarily out of service. The consumer plans to call the firm again so he can report the incident.

    There are no prior incidents.

The consumer went online and found that the firm has issued recalls for similar blow dryers presenting a fire hazard but his model is not included.

Thank goodness I wasn’t holding it up near my hair at that exact moment!!! The dryer is a Revlon product, which is controlled by Helen of Troy Company and my concerns were passed on to Helen of Troy Co. They have offered to replace the hair dryer, but they also want me to send the faulty dryer to them and have emailed me a shipping label. I’m wondering if this offer from them is just to get such a dangerous product back without me contacting any other persons. Should I return the faulty product to them?

Only has been used maybe 8 times since buying it. Thankful my hair wasn’t set on fire or burned myself or started the house on fire. Could have been worse but very dissatisfied with the quality of this hair dryer and not getting much use out of it.

I was drying my hair when sparks and flames shot out from around where the dryer joins the cord. My clothing (Bathrobe) caught on fire and I had singing on my face. The surge protector of the electrical outlet. The surge protector of the electrical outlet was not deployed (it sometimes does if too much power is drawn). I threw my bathrobe on the floor: it continued to burn until we doused it in the sink.

The product, in the report: Revlon (Ionic Tourmaline Ceramic/ Model #RvDR544) hair blow dryer - purple - 1875W

While using the Revlon (Ionic Tourmaline Ceramic/ Model #RvDR544) hair blow dryer, sparks and flame flew out of the bottom handle. Distinct smell of electrical fire. I immediately dropped the dryer in the sink and pulled the plug out of the wall. As I did another loud pop. After investigating the now cooled off dryer, there is a clear flaw in the design of this product. Where the cord sparked and caught fire, it is visibly rubbing on the plastic part of the actual dryer. In other words, everytime you move the dryer the cord rubs on this plastic part. Considering that this is only about a year old, I would not expect this to happen. This a a major design flaw with dangerous consequences. I’m lucky the few times in the past couple weeks that I left this plugged in when I walked away that it did not catch the house on fire. This product needs to be pulled from the market immediately

The product, in the report: Revlon hair dryer, grey color

On the evening of January 19th, 2016, I purchased a Revlon hair dryer from the Target in Medina, MN. After I returned home that night, I tried to use this hair dryer to blow dry my daughter’s hair after she showered. I plugged it in and turned in on and immediately the hair dryer shot out fire. My coat sleeve and my arm were both set on fire. I ran my arm under water. My daughter screamed and started crying. I was in great pain and was irritated by the Target. So I went to the Target to talk to the manager and explain the issue to him. At that time I noticed that the hair dryer seemed to have been used for a very long time. The handle was badly worn, the paint was off or faded, and it was repackaged. The Target manager was not sympathetic and was not willing to help me. He suggested me to contact the manufacturer of the dryer.

The pain kept getting worse at night, and I went to the urgent care the next day. The doctor gave me medications and a shot and I returned home. The next few days my arm became infected and the pain was getting even worse. I went to the urgent care again and the doctor diagnosed it as Second Degree Burn and Wound Infection, for which I was given more medications. In the next three weeks, the infection and pain prevented me from doing most of my routine duties during the day and from sleeping well during the night. This incident also caused an emotional stress on the whole family. My daughter sustained a fear of hair dryers for a period of time after this, afraid of using hair dryers to dry her hair.

I contacted Target headquarters about this incident, and they also directed me to the manufacturer Helen of Troy. I contacted the manufacturer who asked me to mail in the hair dryer. However, I think it is the main evidence of this incident so I have been hesitant to mail it in. I have sought help from two different lawyers but neither was able to help. I believe that this incident should not have happened had either Target or the manufacturer been responsible. And I believe that by making both parties more responsible, it will help protect the rights of all the consumers and customers of the two parties.

I am writing regarding a Revlon hair dryer model RV544. I originally purchased the item in 2014. In April 2015 the cord had an electrical short and the unit sparked and caught fire. I contacted Revlon Customer Service and was told this was abnormal and must be a defective unit. They replaced the unit in April 2015. I have been using it for the last 14 months with no issue. Until this morning when the same thing happened again - the cord shorted and blew sparks out, burning my forehead. This item is hazardous and my experience is echoed by numerous reviewers on Amazon who also report being burned. Revlon is appearing to deny there is an issue with what is clearly a dangerous product.

I was using my Revelon RV544 Perfect Heat Fast Dry Speed Hair Dryer when I heard a loud pop, causing me to drop the dryer. Several red hot embers fell to the ground and the wire near the base of the dryer was melted and burned. There was smoke and the room smelled like fire. I was nearly burned, but luckily dropped the dryer when it popped.

I contacted Revelon, and then Helen of Troy. They immediately replaced my dryer with a brand new one, apologizing for the defect. Less then a year and a half later, without even using the dryer daily, the same incident occured. The wire burnt, several embers shot off the dryer, nearly burning me. This product is faulty and has over 500 reviews on Amazon, with photos, of customers who have experienced this same incident.

Please do something to recall this product. It is truly a danger to people, their families and their pets. I am lucky that I was not injured, but many others have been.

The product, in the report: Pink Revlon Ionic 1875W hair dryer

I purchased the Revlon Ionic 1875W within the last year. It has been a good little hair dryer, or so I had thought. I clean out the part where the dust goes in and I use a plug that my husband put in for items to be grounded. While unplugging the hair dryer and putting it away, I touched something that made me scream it was so hot, but I didn’t know where it came from. I was in a rush, so I didn’t try to figure it out. Today, after unplugging my hair dryer and going to put it away, the plug touched me and I felt a heat like no other - this is beyond hot - like if it touched you for too many seconds you would get a third degree burn - I’ve never felt anything so hot! I’m surprised that it hasn’t burned my house down with the plug touching something while it was cooling down. I never knew that I had to watch my hair dryer plug, my curling iron I understand... This is a COMPLETE FIRE HAZARD AND EVERYONE SHOULD KNOW ABOUT IT before it either really hurts someone, especially a child, or catches something on file. I am very disappointed in this product. I would like someone to address this. I expected this to last me a really long time like my previous hair dryers. Thank you in advance.

The product, in the report: Revlon 1875W Ionic Styler Hairdryer Model RV474 Distributed by Helen of Troy L.P.

On April 21, 2015 at approximately 8:15 p.m., I purchased a Revlon hairdryer from Walgreens store #[REDACTED] at 1300 Hazelwood Drive in Smyrna, Tennessee, model number RV474 for $19.99 plus tax. A copy of the receipt is attached hereto as Exhibit 1. A photograph of the hairdryer in its original packaging is attached hereto as Exhibit 2. I left the hair dryer in its original packaging until the next morning, the morning of April 22, 2015. At approximately 7:20 a.m., when I was ready to dry my hair, I unpacked the hair dryer, removed the plastic piece covering the prongs of the plug, plugged it in and turned on the hairdryer. Immediately flames shot out of the front of the hairdryer where the air comes out. Four separate burning particles flew out of the hairdryer and landed in three separate locations: one inside a basket near my vanity, two on the edge of a wooden vanity seat, and one on the bathroom floor. The particles were not simply smoldering, but were actually actively burning with flames present. I extinguished the particles that I could find immediately, (the one on the floor and the two on the vanity seat) and discovered that each burning particle was a tiny metal ring that had obviously shot out of the dryer. I was aware of a burning smell, and upon further investigation found the fourth particle that had burned a hole through the side of the basket near my vanity. I immediately unplugged the hairdryer for fear of injury, and was afraid to use it. After attempting to clean the burned areas, repackaging the hairdryer, taking photographs of the damage, and locating my receipt, I plugged my electric toothbrush into the same socket of the same plug, and there were no issues, confirming to me that there was no problem with my outlet, and that the flames were a result of a faulty and dangerous hairdryer. Moreover, I recently had an electrical inspection by a certified and licensed electrician, in which no problems with the outlet in which the hairdryer was plugged were discovered, further underscoring the certainty that the damage was the result of a faulty, defective, and dangerous product.

I was drying my hair with a Revlon RV544PKF 1875W Tourmaline Ionic Ceramic Dryer, and without any warning, something on the inside shattered/exploded with most of the contents remaining within the body and something being expelled, through my hair (and was not found). the motor then suddenly started to high pitched whining sound, at which time I immediately shut off and unplugged. There was no noticeable smoke or flame, as noted in other complaints. I have retained the hair dryer, for any need for investigation.

I have been using the Revlon RV544PKF 1875W Tourmaline Ionic Ceramic Dryer for a little over two years now. While I was drying my hair the dryer stopped working. I checked the fuses and everything was still on. I turned the on/off switch back and forth and it turned back on. It worked for about another 30 seconds and then went off again. When I turned the on/off switch back and forth again the cord blew and burnt my wrist. Seconds later the cord started on fire. My husband had to join me to get the fire out. I feel lucky that we were able to get the fire out quickly. I wrote a review on Amazon and while reading the other reviews I noticed others have this same problem. This product needs to be looked at as it’s unsafe!

After having no earlier issues with the product (Revlon RV544PKF 1875W Tourmaline Ionic Ceramic Dryer), it would not turn on one morning. Occasionally the Test GFCI gets pressed, so I pressed the reset button on the plug and nothing happened. I turned the product off then on again a couple times and it finally worked. After blow-drying my hair for a few minutes, it turned off again. I jiggled the cable near the base of the blow dryer when it started sparking profusely, and burned my thumb where it was in contact with the cable. I immediately turned off/unplugged the product and it is obvious the heat of the sparks melted through the cable.

The product, in the report: The hairdryer is silver and purple with the words “Revlon 1875 Ionic Ceramic” on the side. It’s dryer part is nine inches long and from the top to just about the cord is 10 inches, the cord is close to 6 ft long.

I was drying my hair today with my Revlon 1875 Ionic Ceramic hairdryer and sparks flew out of the hairdryer. Before the sparks flew the hairdryer was cutting off and on, I tried the reset and test buttons to solve the problem. I have the same reset and test buttons on my electrical outlet and have been able to solve a shut off problem in the past. After some switching off and on I figured out I could hold the base of the cord near the dryer to make it stay on so I could finish drying my hair. No wires within the plastic coating were exposed. After about one minute sparks flew from the dryer. I’m not sure from where because I was holding the dryer towards the back of my head. I was not injured, but wanted to report the issue so someone else is not hurt.

The product, in the report: Revlon, Ionic, 1875 watt hair dryer. It is turquoise in color. Has two switches. One for speed, and one for heat settings. Along with a “cool shot” type button that allows you to give a shot of cold air, without changing the settings. It came with an oval diffuser, which no longer stays on; and a lint cage that falls off regularly. Model RVDR5036 Type VD781BL

Not long ago, my Revlon hairdryer started having some issues (the plug in had to be wiggled a lot for their to be a full connection to the outlet and maintain power). So, I opted to replace it. I chose another Revlon product, having been generally satisfied with my previous model (I actually bought that one twice). Anyway, the replacement was a Revlon Ionic 1875W model, that came in a turquoise color.

Recently, I started using the medium setting vs. the high setting, so that I can hear my radio when getting ready in the morning. Over the last few days of use , I noticed that the “high” setting, was actually feeling more like “medium”. The button was set to high flow, but was not coming out as such.

The hair dryer also started intermittently changing heat settings, it would be warm, then hot, or give me a shot of cold, or whatever it felt like doing. No discernible pattern, that I could tell. The issue only happened a few times, and I couldn’t make it repeat on purpose. But, I did start paying attention to it, because it was just weird.

Today, everything changed. I typically dry my hair most of the way without styling tools, and just when it’s almost done I use a round brush to style it. I started with the front bang area of my hair, everything seemed fine. Two round brushes further back, I noticed a smell. Burnt smell. I turned the hairdryer off and set it down. Started brushing my hair and saw a big glob of hair on my brush. Pulled it out and put it in the sink. Started running my fingers through my hair, and pulled out chunks (that somewhat resemble a hair extension with glue on the root end). Chunks were coming out, strands were coming out, and tiny pieces were breaking off as I touched the root ends of my hair. It was very alarming.

I have very fine, very thin hair. I’m in my mid 40’s, so I’m well aware of how to blow dry & style my hair. I know not to stay in one spot for long, and I didn’t do that in this case either. I wear my hair just past my shoulders (appx 2.5-inches), in a slightly layered style.

I have a small spot just above the bang line where the hair was burnt down near the scalp. That area is maybe an eighth of an inch long. Another area, which is quite a bit larger, is at the top/crown of my head. Most of that hair is burned down to less than half of an inch long. There may be a few strands longer (hard for me to see). But, the area itself is approximately the size of golf ball. The third and largest area, is damaged and still falling out. The best way to describe location on this, is half way between the crown & nape of my neck. In this area, the hair is damaged, and like I said, still falling out. The most disturbing part about this last area described, is that I hadn’t started styling that area yet. So, either a spark flew down from when I was styling the top, or it flew up when I was doing a general dry and moving all around. Either way, it’s scary to thing that this incident could actually have been worse.

I have emailed Revlon, and am awaiting their specific response (only had an auto email so far).

This unit isn’t that old - a few months or so? I’d have to try to locate my receipt, and I’m not sure that I have it. It’s not a heavy use item either. One person usage, approximately 5 days a week for 5-10 minutes off & on. I don’t dry & style at the exact same time. And, I rarely use on the weekends. So, in my opinion, this is a potentially serious & dangerous equipment malfunction - not user error.

I would like to recommend investigation and recall of this unit.

The product, in the report: See Information Below. It is a Purple Revlon Ceramic / Tourmaline/ Iconic / 1875 W Hair Dryer.

Revlon Hair Dryer Model RVDR5141 has a risk of electrocution.

We started using this hair dryer about one month ago. As we used it, the motor started cutting out more and more frequently. I thought that there must be a loose connection inside, until I saw smoke and sparks where the electrical cord entered the rubber stress relief tube on the handle. The electrical cord was about to break in two. Bare copper wire was exposed from both leads.

I started to re-package the hair dryer in its original box and noticed that the box will not close unless the power cord is bent at a sharp 90 angle where the cord enters the stress relief tube. I have surmised that there are two problems. 1.) The extension cord insulation is made of a more brittle and less flexible material than other cords, and 2.) The box the hair dryer is packaged in is too small and forces the power cord to be bent severely, in order to close the box. This severe bend essentially breaks the cord insulation.

Please take action to force this company to issue a RECALL. Many other consumers are experiencing the same problem and nothing is being done about it. Revlon is clearly not taking any responsibility based upon their corporate BS response.

Initially I thought I had moved the switch accidently however the switch was on high heat. I checked the electrical plug and it was still securely in the electrical socket. The hair dryer was less than a year old. I was in the middle of drying my hair in the morning when suddenly there was a loud pop and a huge spark coming from inside the dryer and I felt a shock through my right hand (which was holding the dryer at the time). It immediately stopped working and when I visually inspected it I noticed that the cord had been blown out (the wires inside were exposed and mostly disconnected) at the base of where it attaches to the dryer. This also caused a tripped breaker.

I ordered a Revlon RV544PKF 1875W Tourmaline Ionic Ceramic Dryer from Amazon. I had it for just short of 18 months when it started getting temperamental. There seemed to be a problem where the cord attaches to the unit, as it would shut off in certain positions and resume blowing hot air once adjusted. A week after this started, I was in the middle of blow drying my hair when there was a loud pop and huge spark. I returned to the Amazon page for this item and there are tons of reports in the reviews of similar incidents, some of which were far more serious and involved actual flames and people getting burned. Revlon RV544PKF 1875W Tourmaline Ionic Ceramic Dryer

I purchased this unit in November 2014 from Amazon. Only lasted 6 months. I turned it on the other day and it didn’t work. I thought the GFCI was tripped so I pressed the button...that was not the issue. I then tried the power switch again and a huge spark and smoke came from the area where the cord enters the dryer. My first instinct was to unplug the unit and I’m glad I did. Turned out the unit shorted at that point and burned completely through the cord and insulation. Very dangerous and could have easily caused an electrocution if someone inadvertently grabbed that area instead. I never wrapped the cord around the unit or subjected it to falls or other abuse. Revlon’s warranty policy is ridiculous. They want the buyer to send the unit back as well as $6 to cover handling. By the time someone does this it would have cost more than the unit.
