The product, in the report: Conair Ion Shine 1875 blue and gray color
I had been drying my hair and turned the hair dryer off and hung it in the towel rack next to me. I continued to get ready for the day in the bathroom where the hairdryer was. I heard a loud “pop” sound in the direction of the hairdryer. I looked toward the sound to see smoke and flames coming out the handle of my hairdryer. I quickly unplugged it and carried it by the far end of the cord to outside. I had this hairdryer for several years. The switch seemed to be touchy or sensitive. When I would turn the switch on sometimes the hair dryer would not turn on immediately. I reported the incident to Conair since it was one of their products. I was told that since it had been greater than two years since the purchase of the hair dryer they would not replace it. The person on the phone asked to make sure that I didn’t sustain any injury, which I did not. I told the company representative that it wasn’t a free replacement that I was looking for but to protect others who may use the same hair dryer. I discussed with her my concern that if someone left the product plugged in and then left his or her home the product could catch fire and cause serious damage to someone or his or her home. She said she would pass my concern on to the marketing division. This was the end of our conversation. I reported this to the company in July of this year 2011.
The product is a Conair Ion Shine 1875 hair dryer

The product, in the report: Conair Hair Dryer 157RDR
Conair Hair Dryer #157RDR. Back of handle gets EXTREMELY hot, dangerously hot, so hot you can’t hold it. I unfortunately no longer have the box or receipt. I called Conair twice and all they could offer was my mailing the hair dryer back to them (at my cost) and my enclosing a check for $5 for them to mail me another one. In researching the hair drier online, I see there have been many complaints of this dangerous issue, but no recalls from Conair.

The product, in the report: 60HV 1000 Watt, Babybliss Pro hairdryer
The consumer says the unit started smoking and it caught fire from the inside. The consumer says the unit did not turn on full force and it started up really slowly. The consumer says the unit was on for about a minute. The consumer says that this also happened to her before with a different hair dryer, but the same brand. The consumer says that now when she turns it on now it makes a noise and the coils get bright red and shuts off on its own. The model number on her hair dryer is one digit off from recalled model Release #10-223. she says that between her and her husband, they use the hair dryer everyday. She says a few days prior to the incident, the motor was going real slow and gradually would go faster and faster.

The product, in the report: Conair hair dryer model 260 PX
THIS CONSTITUTES A REPORT TO REPRESENTATIVE [REDACTED] AND COPY TO US CONSUMER PRODUCT SAFETY DIVISION AND CONAIR CORPORATION On Monday, June 20, 2011, my 19-year-old daughter visiting me in Tennessee was drying her hair with Conair model 260 PX (photos of dryer attached), which she purchased about February or March of 2011 at Rite Aid Pharmacy in Spokane WA, and set it on cool when the dryer got very hot to the touch. She asked me to look at it. It was very hot to the touch. I checked and it was on “cool” and set at 125. She tried it again and it threw sparks, and blew the circuit of the house, bypassing the failed built in Conair circuit. The dryer’s built-in safety switch failed to trip. The dryer got very hot and threw sparks then shorted out house circuit.

The product, in the report: Conair 1875 travel size dryer, blue, 110-220v, folding handle,
I’ve had a Conair 1875 travel hair dryer for about 3 years, and they still make this model. They also let Walgrens/CVS label this model with their own branding, which is important to note as my experience could have occurred on those models as well.
I finished drying my hair, switched the dryer off, left it plugged in and walked into the other room. Less than a minute later I heard the hair dryer come on by itself! Fortunately I was just in the next room and went back into the bathroom to find the dryer on, and smoking. I was able to yank the cord from the wall without injury. My concern is, if I was unable to hear this happen, a fire would have absolutely started.
When I retrieved the dryer, it was very hot to the touch and the switch was indeed in the off position. I still have the unit, but have replaced it. I’m taking the time to report this partially because of the danger and partially because when I was at CVS buying a replacement I was shocked to see they carry NO other brands except Conair and they still sell this model in question.

The product, in the report: Conair 223F hot pink hair dryer with retractable cord
My hairdryer burned me in the neck. Something inside melted onto the coil and hot plastic shot out when I turned it on. The plastic was the same color (hot pink) as the outside of the dryer. It burned into my skin.
