The product, in the report: Conair Infinity Pro Hair Dryer
I was using a conair Infinity pro blow dryer (color orange). I turned the switch on and immediately saw a yellow arc flash from where the cord meets the dryer. I had immediate searing pain. I saw a large circle of black soot on my arm and immediately rinsed it off. Underneath was a burn. The dryer had red glowing wires. From what I have read that is a failure of the strain relief and safety shut-offs dryers are required to have.

The product, in the report: Conair 1875 white compact electric hand held hair dryer. Type Y283SR UL STD 859
I was using a Conair 1875 hair dryer to dry my hair. While using the dryer the fan on the end of dryer sucked my hair into the dryer and hair got stuck. I had to break off at least 3 inches of my hair in order to get it out. After which the dryer ran very slowly and would only blow out a small amount of air and had a burning smell. Note: I have read other reviews that have stated the same complaint. *There was damage/injury to my hair!

The product, in the report: Conair 1875 Styler (brush attachment was in use at time of incident)
I use a Conair 1875 Styler to blow dry my hair every morning. Ive owned this unit for approximately four years. I have short hair which requires less than a minute of drying time every day. This morning after about 15 seconds of use, the unit stopped working. About 4 seconds later, it began running again, so I continued using it for a few more seconds when it shut off again on its own. As I held it away from my head, the unit made a loud popping sound. Simultaneously, it sent out a burst of orange flames, sparks, and smoke. I immediately threw the unit in my sink and unplugged it from the wall. Oddly, it never tripped my GFI outlet, and the outlet is working fine. This Conair Styler has never been dropped or abused. Im the sole user. Every day, I pull it from the drawer where I store it, use it briefly, then set it back in the drawer. The outlet its plugged into is 7 years old and was installed when my home was built in 2018. The Conair Styler shows no signs of having an explosive incident. It still looks brand new. If I had been holding the u it closer to my head when it shot out flames, I undoubtedly would have been seriously burned.

Conair 1875 watt hair dryer, model 303WMR. This hair dryer is very dangerous and should be taken off the market immediately. The back of the blow dryer does not have a protective cover to keep blowing hair out and it sucks hair into the dryer during use. The dryer will continue to suck the hair inside until the dryer power is shut off. Even with the dryer shut off, hair cannot be removed except by cutting off the hair. The manufacturer is aware of this issue but has not recalled the item. See Walmart.com for multiple customer reviews of this same issue.

The product, in the report: Conair Double Ceramic Dryer 1875 Watts Model 565DCT
I purchased the Conair model 565DCT double ceramic dryer from ULTA beauty on 10/9/22. Today (2/9/23) while using it the dryer started making a horrible rattling noise. It then had some type of explosion inside and started smoking. The dryer shorted. If turned on the fan no longer is running but the heat is. There is now something rattling inside it that is loose like a screw post explosion. The product has always seemed to run at a high temperature even on low settings since purchase. Product has only gotten minimal use once weekly since purchase 4 months ago.

The product, in the report: Conair 1875 hair dryer
On Saturday, January 28, 2023 at approximately 10:30 a.m., I unplugged my Conair 1875 hairdryer from the outlet and next thing I remember - I was flat on my back and had blacked out for a few seconds......I didn’t know what happened. I thought maybe when I bent over to unplug it - I thought maybe I got light-headed and passed out. I have never passed out before in my life (I am 57 years old). Later in the evening - I was getting ready to go out and again I plugged in my hair dryer (I use it to heat up my eyelash curler) and this time when I went to unplug it - I squatted down so that I didn’t lean over and pull the plug out. Next thing I know - i was on my back again and I had blacked out for a few seconds. My 85-year old mother and my sister both heard me fall on the floor....at that time - I still didn’t know what happened. Then I realized that I had blacked out and fallen both times that day at the exact same time that I was unplugging that hairdryer. I had an electrician come out on January 30th and he said there wasn’t anything wrong with the actual outlet and it had to be the hairdryer plug that was the problem. I have a black eye from the fall (I don’t know if the black eye is from me pulling the plug out and possibly hitting myself in the eye when I got electrocuted or I don’t know if the electrical current went in through my eye. All I know is that it was a scary situation and I am worried about my heart. I already have a rapid heart beat (supraventricular tachycardia) and I am lucky that I didn’t actually die from being shocked twice in one day.

The product, in the report: Hair Dyer Infiniti Pro Conair
The consumer indicates that she was using her hair dryer for about eight minutes when it blew up. Apparently, the wires at the end of the handle shorted out and the plastic around it flew off to the consumer´s left wrist, causing a third-degree burn. The consumer visited her local urgent care where they bandaged the burn and prescribed medication. The consumer is now left with a permanent two-inch scar on her wrist.
The consumer states that she uses the unit daily for fifteen minutes.
The consumer plans on keeping her hair dryer for at least the next thirty days in case an investigation ensues.

The product, in the report: Conair Cord-Keeper 1875. Blue hair dryer with a retractable power cord. Hair dryer model number: 209TGN. Power cord appears to be Luen Ming, model: LA5S
My wife was using a Conair Cord-Keeper 1875 hair dryer as normal when the cord shorted out causing a burst of electrical fire just under the sheething leading up to the plug. We assumed it was a one-off random defective product and our local Target only carried that same model so we purchased a replacement. The new one is also exhibiting similar behavior that was happening before the fireball: GFCI outlets won’t allow the hair dryer to turn on (non-GFCI will still allow it), slight burning/melting smell when trying to turn the product on and use it. We have immediately stopped use of the new one and will no longer purchase Conair products.

The product, in the report: Conair Cordkeeper Blow Dryer model 1875, color purple.
Product: Conair Cordkeeper Blow Dryer Model 1875. Age: <1 year. While in use, the blowdryer paused, I looked at the cord to see if it came unplugged, jiggling the cord to see if it was loose from the plug receptacle. It was not at all loose. I retried the power button, sliding it down and back up. Suddenly sparks and flames came out from the cord, righr where the wrap begins, that holds the power cord and the plug together. I couldn’t believe my eyes, flames, 2 to 3 inches coming out of the base of the wrap. I quickly pulled the cord plug out from the wall electrical outlet (with my hand) and threw the whole device onto the tile floor where it wouldn’t ignite any surrounding item. The flames diminished and the smell of burning rubber consumed the room.

The product, in the report: It is a compact Conair 1875 hair dryer, dark blue in color, with a removable lint filter. It has two speeds (High and Low). It is 8” tall and 6-1/2” wide. Model LUEN MING Model LA5S E256185 125V AC 60HZ 15A
My complaint concerns my Conair 1875 hair dryer. I have owned this dryer and used it several times a week to dry my hair for approximately three years. For several weeks I had noticed that the temperature of the heat from the dryer had diminished, and I presumed it was starting to fail. This morning as I was drying my hair, I saw two large sparks of fire shoot out from the dryer and land on my cloth shower curtain and bathroom floor. I quickly extinguished them by stamping on them with my foot. These looked like the sparks of fire that shoot out from an outdoor campfire. Something similar happened to my previous Conair 1875 hair dryer (same style and model) which I also owned for about three years. I remember holding it in my hand one morning while it was turned on and watching sparks of fire shoot out where the hot air is emitted from the hair dryer. I immediately discarded it.

My wife and I were in our bathroom, doing our morning routines; she was using her blow dryer in the normal fashion to...dry her hair. All of a sudden, little pieces of coiled metal--bright orange and presumably very, very hot--came flying out of the open end of the device, some landing on the floor and a couple landing on my head. I was able to brush these off onto the floor and, fortunately, no injuries resulted.

The product, in the report: Conair 1875-Watt Style and Shine Hair Dryer. Manufactured in 2013. Bicolor, purple and black plastic body. Blue, oblong manual cool button on the front of the handle, beneath the neck of the body. Two, black, oblong slides are beneath it for heat and speed/power controls. The top of the electrical cord at the base of the handle has a protective sleeve to prevent it from bending. This cord sleeve has a front facing loop to hang up the blow dryer. The plug prongs are in a square, GFI unit with yellow and red test/reset buttons. The back of the blow dryer’s body and handle is black with raised, vertical lines. The handle curves backwards at the middle, speed control slide.
Faulty power cord: I was blow drying my hair with a Conair 1875 Watt Style and Shine Hair Dryer on Aug 23, 2019 and began smelling an unrecognizable smell and then realized it was wires burning. I moved the dryer from above my head to chest level in front of me and the cord suddenly exploded toward me, sparking into a fire ball the size of the palm of my hand. I was startled and frightened of being electrocuted and instinctively threw the dryer away from me. The blow dryer landed on the floor, detached from the cord. The cord remained plugged into the wall. Once I realized the cord was plugged in, I unplugged it. My GFI receptacle and my electrical box circuit breaker were both tripped at some point. I was shaken but not injured. This easily could have caught my hair or clothes on fire. If the cord had touched my arm as I was bringing the hair dryer down in front of me I could have been severely burned or electrocuted. 12 photos are attached to this report.

While using the unit for a few minutes on high heat the unit began sparking. He immediately unplugged the unit. He did not notice smoke. He believes the unit shorted out. The unit does not have burn damages on the outside but he believes there may be internally.
He contacted the firm and reported the incident. But he hasn’t heard back from them.
He had a similar unit and he believes that unit also shorted out. He did not notice sparks but the unit stopped working after a few months. He also notified the firm when this occurred but he didn’t receive a response.
The unit is used almost every day.

This product injured my right hand on May 2, 2018 when I first tested out the product after I had purchased it on 4/29/2018. I pressed the button to retract the cord and the force of retraction is so strong that it whips up and the end (thick plug) will hit whatever is in it’s way. This could definitely hurt someone who isn’t paying attention to their surroundings and injure themselves or someone that happened to be near them (for example a child). This product injured me and I WAS PAYING ATTENTION, so this is why I am reporting this.
The injury resulted in bruising and a tiny laceration on my right hand.

The product, in the report: Hair Dryer
The consumer was drying her hair for approximately three minutes. When done, the consumer turned off the unit and placed it down on the bathroom counter. The consumer moved a few feet away and shortly thereafter heard what seemed to be the hair dryer on. The consumer went to check and noticed that the hair dryer was sparking and smoking. The consumer unplugged the unit and, upon inspection, noticed a burn mark around the ON/ OFF switch. The consumer plugged the unit back on and it immediately started sparking and smoking again; the consumer turned off and unplugged the hair dryer.
02/12/2018 – The consumer contacted the Manufacturer and explained the situation. The representative she spoke to informed her they would get back with her however this has not been the case. The manufacture subsequently contacted the consumer and asked her to send them the product. She refused.
The consumer states the unit was used two to three times per week. The consumer plans on keeping her hair dryer for the next thirty days in case an investigation ensues.

The product, in the report: hand held hair dryer
1/27/2018: The consumer plugged in the hair dryer and saw there was no power. He checked the controls and moved his wrist and the dryer came on. He used it and stopped when he was finished.
Sometime later, he tried the hair dryer again and a shower of sparks flew from the place where there is a layer of plastic wrapped around the electric cord, near the area where the cord is connected to the handle of the hair dryer. The sparks shower was approx. 2-1/2’ to 3’ (feet) in length. The consumer immediately turned the dryer off and unplugged it from the wall outlet. He then ran water over the bottom part of the handle, where the sparks shot from the cord.
NOTE: The area of the cord, where the sparks shot from, has several holes. One of the holes is a little larger than the others, since the incident. He has not opened the dryer or the cord, but wonders if the wires became exposed in that area.
Above the handle, is the motor for the machine. Above the handle is a disk 2/1-2” in diameter, which is used to blow air and cool down the motor. However, this also blows dust inside the motor.
The consumer was not injured and there was no property damage.
This 2nd hair dryer may present a fire or burn hazard.

The product, in the report: Conair Model# 259 Infiniti Pro Conair. Plug prong #0411SE
On December 13, 2016, I was using my electric Conair Model# 259 Infiniti Pro Conair. Plug prong #0411SE with two screws in the handle to dry my hair and as I used it it unexpectedly electrically blew up in my hand, spitting black soot and sparks out toward myself and the mirror, onto my hand and shooting sparks and black soot onto my $49.98 Limited shirt that I cannot purchase any longer as they are out of business. I have pictures of the shirt and my hands immediately after this happened and can share them with you if needed.
I proceeded to contact Conair and here is what has transpired with no return or attempt to send me new hair dryer or to resolve the issue. This is the same issue that is reported on their one screw model and I am being ignored. I asked for reimbursement of shirt and a new hairdryer, they can even have the old one back to research and test if needed. Link to current recall issue but only for same hairdryer with one screw: https://www.conair.com/co/101d91/infiniti-pro-by-conair-hair-dryer/162

After a brief web search found that the product was recalled; however, the product had been previously registered without notification. An attempt was made to contact Conair on 11/23/2016 with a 45 minute hold online to the Conair recall number at (877) 339-2534; with no answer. Again 11/28/2016 a call with a wait of over 2 hours and 38 minutes with no representative. Due to the burns and hair loss, the manufacturer must be made responsible. The product, in the report: Conair hair dryer. Model 259Y. “Infinity Pro Conair”
This is the second time I am trying to send this message to you. The first time, your gateway server timed-out and lost all of my information.
Re: Conair Hairdryer Model 259Y “Infinity jPro”
I bought this hairdryer at CVS Pharmacy in [REDACTED] about six or seven months ago. It was on sale.
I’ve had no problems with it until today. While using it, it made a couple of popping sounds and then immediately flames and sparks started shooting out of the bottom of the handle. I dropped it and pulled the plug out of the socket.
I then went to the Conair website intending to report it and saw that many model numbers of the “Infinity Pro” had been recalled, but not my model number 259Y. The recall notice was very specific in saying that only models with one screw on the back of the handle were being recalled. My model 259Y has TWO screws on the back.
I telephoned the Recall Center and spent 17 MINUTES ON HOLD. Honestly, for a department that is entrusted with dealing with safety issues, this is quite unacceptable.
I hung up and proceeded to call the Conair Corporate Headquarters. I was transferred to a “Director’s” voicemail at extension #247. I believe that her VM message said that her name was [REDACTED] (phonetic representation). I left her a very long message with all of the above information and more along with my phone number which I repeated TWICE.
I demanded a call back and also demanded that the website recall information be updated to include this model 259Y with TWO screws on the back of the handle.
My feeling is that they will ignore me. I am VERY upset as this was a terribly scary incident that could have basically set me on fire. Conair needs a corporate standard that when consumers call that Recall Line, they get an answer within 1 minute. 17 minutes on hold is just absurd and suggests a reckless disregard for consumers who they have put a risk with their faulty products.

05/11/2016 - The consumer indicates that she was drying her daughter’s hair for approximately five minutes and then stopped using the unit for approximately thirty. The consumer then turned the unit back on to finish drying her daughter’s hair for about three minutes when it started sparking. The consumer immediately turned the unit off and made sure that her daughter was fine and not burnt. The consumer later turned on and off the unit repeatedly and noticed that a metal inside it was scorching red.
05/12/2016 - The consumer contacted the manufacturer and explained the situation. The representative she spoke to informed her that they would send her a shipping label and a box for her to send the unit back to them in order for her to receive a replacement. The consumer informed the representative that she was not interested in a replacement hair dryer but rather wants them to investigate the problem. The representative said they would send her something of equal or greater value.
The consumer indicates that she used her hair dryer twice every day since she purchased it for a total time of thirty minutes maximum. The consumer states that the unit is not damaged nor is its plug, and so the problem may be internally.
The consumer plans on returning the unit back to the manufacturer.

Today, November 18, 2015, I was drying my hair with a Conair Infiniti Pro hair dryer and it caught fire. Sparks and flames started coming out of the handle of the blow dryer. It caused 2nd degree burns to my right hand and almost caught my shirt on fire and almost caught my house on fire because I had to drop the hair dryer and the only place was on the bathroom floor which was covered with a rug. Even though it was plugged into a safety electrical outlet in the wall, the dryer kept running until it turned itself off and the flames went out. I had to seek medical attention for the burn to my right hand.
This hair dryer is not old and was purchased within the last couple years. It showed no signs of wear and was in very good condition.

Infiniti Pro Hair Dryer. Model 259NP
I had one of these for about 2 years that 2 months ago shot fire out while using it. It was obviously broken, thought it was just its time to go. Bought the same one, as I love my hair dryer, and this morning it shot a flame out while using it and it too was broke. Didn’t understand, it was essentially brand new as it was just purchased 2 months ago. Decided to locate Conair’s consumer phone number and called. Absolutely rude service, told my product was not covered in a recall as it has 2 screws (didn’t know until today when I called that there was one), I asked if there is another number I could call to speak about my issue and he said no. Then he told me he had to go?
The first time it happened with the original hair dryer it singed some of my hair, this last time today I had only had it a matter of weeks before it did just about the same thing. Luckily it did not spark as largely as the first one and catch my hair.
Felt the need to share my experience. First dryer I purchased at Bed Bath and Beyond. This one I purchased at Publix. Different stores and different states, same problem.

My spouse has been using the hair dryer on a daily basis. The other day, the Unit Sparked, sending sparks to her arm. Luckily she was not burnt or hurt.
I noticed the power cord at the end of the hair dryer’s hang up plastic clip is frayed and cut in half. This has happened with several other hair dryers and I believe that the Safety Products Group should look into this matter and investigate. It is not just a single manufacturers issue. Please see pictures of the [REDACTED]unit from June 2012.

The product, in the report: It is a white Con Air 1600. Model 0641, Type D88R, E47949. Made in Cartago, Costa Rica
We have had out hair dryer for approx 2 years. Today, while we were home, we heard the hair dryer turn on from the other room. When I reached the bathroom, the hair dryer was glowing from the inside and sparks were coming out the back. I immediately unplugged it and it began to smoke heavily enough that it set off the smoke detector. I checked the setting and it was in the off position.
We felt lucky that we were home as we were sure the wall next to where the hair dryer was located would have caught fire leading to the potential loss of our home.

The product, in the report: Conair Hair Dryer Model 070RW
On March 1, 20141 used my Conair hair dryer, model number 070RW, after showering. When finished drying my hair, I switched the dryer off and proceeded to finish shaving and brushing my teeth. About ten minutes elapsed since I had switched off the hair dryer when I heard a whooshing sound. At first I was uncertain where the sound was coming from but quickly saw that it was the hair dryer. The dryer had self started. Smoke and a bluish flame was rising from the handle area of the dryer. I immediately pulled the dryer plug from the wall outlet.
The smoke and flame subsided. At no time was the dryer exposed to any water or moisture. The dryer spontaneously self started with the switch in the off position. I was thankful that I was still in the bathroom when the incident occurred and could disconnect the dryer before it could start the house on fire. The outlet where the dryer was connected is on a GFI circuit.
On March 3, 2014, I reported this incident by phone to [REDACTED], Conair Claims Manager at her office in Stamford Connecticut [REDACTED]. [REDACTED] said she would send me a shipping carton to send the unit back to them for analysis. So far, I have not received anything.

The product, in the report: Conair Hair Dryer with Retractable Cord and Folds for Travel or Storage
I just finished drying my hair with the Conair Cord Keeper 1875 and was folding it to put it away as it offers that feature for storage. As I was doing this the underside fleshy part of my pinky finger got severely smashed/pinched in the part of the handle that folds. It IMMEDIATELY began to throb and caused a blood blister to form. It almost broke the skin.I have pictures to show the injury. I had to apply ice for about 10 minutes. It still has not healed as of today (1/28/14).
The dryer is very hard to close for storage even though it was designed for this purpose.
Thank you for your time.

I have a Conair Ionic Cord-Keeper 1875 hair dryer. I believe that it could have caused a fire had there been flammable material such as tissues nearby.
I have retained the hair dryer.

The product, in the report: Blowdryer
This morning while my mother was getting ready for work her Conair Corp Infinity Pro 1875 Blow Dryer caught fire while in use and while next to her hair. She dropped the blow dryer and pulled the plug out of the wall. The fire was burning down the cord and towards the wall at the time. In the process she burned her rug. I went online and did a search and found out she is not the first person this has happened to. Corporations that manufacturer products must be held accountable when they products they produce become or are dangerous. This could have ended very badly had her hair caught fire. Please let me know if there is any more information needed.

This is concerning a Conair Pro Infiniti 1875W hairdryer. The first one I purchased in December 2011 broke within a few weeks when a plastic piece apparently broke off inside during use and was rattling/grinding. Stopped use immediately and returned to store in January 2012 for same model. Less than a year later, was using it yesterday morning and thought I saw a spark, but wasn’t sure, continued use. This morning while using it, it sparked along the cord hanging down my chest as I dried the back of my head. Unplugged immediately and found the cord was nearly melted through. Was fortunate not to have been injured or caused a fire in my home. After owning the Conair brand for many years, and then reading reviews online of the danger in the last 24 hours, It will be a long time before I trust another Conair hair product.

I was using my Conair Infiniti (with retractable cord) as usual when the power of the dryer began to slow down and eventually stop. It was an older product so I assumed it was going out. I looked into the dryer and saw a flame going out, as well as the filaments. However, in the next instant, I was aware of a pain on my head where I had been drying my hair. My hair and scalp were burning! I instinctively hit my head with my hand, though I never saw a flame. I have a nickel sized spot on the top of head where hair was singed and the scalp was burned.

When the hair dryer plug came in contact with the electrical outlet it made a startling electrical buzzing sound/vibration (as if about to cause an electrical shock or fire). This occurs when the dryer is in the off position and re-occurred even after I “reset” the plug. It continues until the plug is pulled out of the wall. There is no reside on the plug and the product itself is barely a month old. It has been used less then a couple dozen times. It has performed normally until now. I do not use any type of hair product (which as hair spray) which may cause residue on the plug. Additionally there is no issue with the outlet being used since other appliances tested on the same plug work fine.

Please be aware- it is far too hot on the hot setting and on 4 separate occasions completely burned the hair- on one to the scalp. I am very upset- you need to make sure that people understand how hot this is- it really is unacceptable. The warning completely understates the risk- the hair literally fell to the floor in clumps-burned.

The product, in the report: Hand held Hair dryer (Electric)
While my wife was blow drying her hair, the cord closest to the plug burst into flames and caused a significant power surge throughout my home. My wife quickly dropped the hair dryer fearing from the fire and electrocution and ran out of the bathroom. As I approached the bathroom, the dryer was still smoldering, however no active fire. I went outside to my circuit breaker and turned off the power. I then proceeded to unplug the device.
There was soot marks on the bathroom wall, and pieces of the cord on the counter top. There was no extension of fire into my wall from the plug and no other damage other than the wall.

The product, in the report: Conair 1875 watts ionic ceramic cord-keeper hair dryer model 209R
I was using a Conair ionic ceramic cord-keeper hair dryer model 209R to dry my hair, when flames began to shoot out from inside the dryer. The dryer includes a removable filter, which I clean weekly. It did not appear to have any build up on the filter prior or after the fire.

The product, in the report: Conair Ioinic 1875 hair dryer
When using my hair dryer Conair Ionshine 1875, model # 146ZDFR the cord as it enters the heavier rubber part of the cord at the dryer end erupted in sparks and seperated partially from the drier/cord on one strand of the wire. Upon returning from a weekend trip to Massachusetts I found out my daughter had the very same thing happen to her with the very same dryer. I have contacted the company to no avail. This is a serious flaw in that design and could be fatal if not handled properly. I have the dryer and intedn to keep until the company has contacted me about it.

The product, in the report: Hair Dryer
Conair Hair Dryer model 228GDC was sitting on top of a counter . It was there for at least 2 days (we were out of town) when we returned there was a burn mark that was caused by an electrical problem where the power cord enters the dryer (there is a rotating ball at this position) The plastic in this area is burned and melted. If this had been sitting on a towel or other flammable material it could have caused a fire. I still have the hair dryer.

The product, in the report: Hairdryer with cord keeper design, I believe this is the flaw, the cord over time because of the weight of the GFI eventually weakens the cord ehere it stops against the housing od dryer.
My wife was using a Conair Ionic Cord Keeper 1875 Hair Dryer model 169P date code 0507S when the cord caught on fire just past the rigid part of the cord where the warning tags are affixed. The flames shot out several inches, and fortunatelu I can say that it was plugged in along a granite backsplash and not drywall, I do believe it could have caught fire. The house breaker and the GFI did not trip that it was plugged into. Looking at it now, this can not be the only tim ethis has happened. Looking at the design, the cord spools back into the hairdryer and it it is at this point where the cord probally became weak and probally cracked, eventually caussing the failure. I called Conair, they just stated that it was out of warranty and I could write to the corporate office. I did one better and called, the gave me the phone number of [REDACTED] [REDACTED], I have called 5 times, left 2 messages, none have been returned. I would think at minimum they would be interested in seeing the hairdryer and damage that occured, only a scare to my wife, but I did take pictures of the backsplash before cleaning it off.

The product, in the report: Conair IONSHINE hair dryer - dark blue with silver letters that say CONAIR IONSHINE 1875 on the side of the dryer; black cord
I was drying my hair with my Conair IONSHINE hairdryer when suddenly a bright blue-white flame about 4”-5” long shot noisily out of the place where the cord met the plug. It burned for a few seconds, and then the cord fell off the plug, at which time the flames stopped. I unplugged the plug from the socket. It looks like the cord melted at the attachment point. Black residue is all around the wall outlet and on the sink below.
I called the Conair Hotline, but they said they couldn’t do anything because the dryer, based on model and serial number, is out of warranty. The warranty is for two years, but I only bought it 10 or so months ago. I was told that unless I had my receipt, (I do not), they couldn’t help me.
I can understand not replacing it if the motor died or no longer blew hot air. I know hair dryers don’t last forever. But this is a safety issue, and I think they should replace it for me, although I’m not really sure I want another one of their products now.

The product, in the report: hair dryer - conair 1600 model SHD5
I left the conair EURO 1600 blowdryer plugged in but off. It was left in this state for a few weeks. This morning the blow dryer turned on (in the off position) at full blast. It was overheating and would have caused a fire had we not immediately heard it and turned it off. Everything smelled like burnt plastic.
