  1. First aid

Made Jun 25, 2019, sent to the company Jul 17, 2019, published by CPSC Aug 7, 2019

The product, in the report: Baby Bjorn Bouncer (baby seat) Art. 455021-US Item 006021-US 2018-09-8F 6980 Made by Reg. No.: 25Y3381

My 10 month old baby was sitting in his baby bjorn bouncer, securely strapped in, and through wiggling and fiddling with the strap was able to undo one side. He then tipped over hitting his head hard on the floor while his leg was trapped in the bjorn. He injured his head and leg and was crying hysterically. This product is dangerous and should be recalled.

  2. Hurt, no treatment

The product, in the report: The BABYBJÖRN Babysitter Balance Organic is made of organic cotton fabric. In the bouncer, your child’s movements are transformed into a fun and soothing rocking motion. The bouncer helps refine your child’s balance and motor skills while keeping your hands free. The BABYBJÖRN Babysitter Balance Organic has three positions: play, rest and sleep.

My six (6) week old son, approximately eleven (11) pounds, was sitting in the Baby Bjorn Babysitter Balance, in the “A” or “play” position, when it suddenly collapsed down into the “C” or sleep position. The product was on a hardwood floor and I used it according to the manufactures specifications. I was not actively bouncing my son in the product; however, my son’s movements did make the product bounce moderately up and down. This activity was within normal use of the product and did not cause abnormal loads on any structure of the product. My son was thrust violently backwards; no physical injury resulted.

I believe the hard plastic “positioner” on this product is poorly designed and can easily and spontaneously come out of its position causing the product to violently collapse down into another position potentially causing serious injury or trauma. Also, any upward force and/or pressure applied at the bottom of the positioner will cause the positioner to eject out of the position notch. There is no way, such as with a simple locking mechanism, to effectively and securely lock the “positioner” into one of the three (3) active positions.
